Thermal Characteristics of a Laser Diode Integrated on a Silica-Terraced PLC Platform

  • A spot-size converted Fabry-Perot laser diode (LD) was flip-chip bonded to a silica-terraced planar lightwave circuit(PLC) platform to examine the effect of the silica terrace on the heat dissipation of the LD module. From the measurement of the light-current characteristics, it was discovered that the silica terrace itself is not a strong thermal barrier, but the encapsulation of the integrated LD with an index-matching polymer resin more or less deteriorates the heat dissipation.

  • The PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) has been widely used to implement real-time controllers in nuclear RPSs (Reactor Protection Systems). Increasing complexity and maintenance cost, however, are now demanding more powerful and cost-effective implementation such as FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array). Abandoning all experience and knowledge accumulated over the decades and starting an all-new development approach is too risky for such safety-critical systems. This paper proposes an RPS software development process with a platform change from PLC to FPGA, while retaining all outputs from the established development. This paper transforms FBD designs of the PLC-based software development into a behaviorally-equivalent Verilog program, which is a starting point of a typical FPGA-based hardware development. We expect that the proposed software development process can bridge the gap between two software developing approaches with different platforms, such as PLC and FPGA. This paper also demonstrates its effectiveness using an example of a prototype version of a real-world RPS in Korea.

  • The present study purposes to develop HMI software that runs on Windows CE .NET platform without being bound to specific HMI equipment and accesses data in PLC equipment through interoperation with an OPC-DA server. As the OPC-DA server reads data in PLC equipment, HMI system does not need to be configured differently for different equipments. In addition, when the interface environment of specific equipment changes, it does not require the application of new equipment or the change of communication protocol. As HMI system runs on Windows CE .NET platform, it can be configured using common embedded devices based on Windows CE .NET platform. HMI software reads data in PLC equipment through RS-232C communication interface. In addition, because it connects to an OPC-DA server through Ethernet communication interface, it can access data in PLC equipment as long as Ethernet is usable.

  • This paper is a technical review of the research and development results of the Korea Nuclear Instrumentation and Control System (KNICS) project and Nu-Tech 2012 program. In these projects man-machine interface system architecture, two digital platforms, and several control and protection systems were developed. One platform is a Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) for a digital safety system and another platform is a Distributed Control System (DCS) for a non-safety control system. With the safety-grade platform PLC, a reactor protection system, an engineered safety feature-component control system, and reactor core protection system were developed. A power control system was developed based on the DCS. A logic alarm cause tracking system was developed as a man-machine interface for APR1400. Also, Integrated Performance Validation Facility (IPVF) was developed for the evaluation of the function and performance of developed I&C systems. The safety-grade platform PLC and the digital safety system obtained approval for the topical report from the Korean regulatory body in February of 2009. A utility and vendor company will determine the suitability of the KNICS and Nu- Tech 2012 products to apply them to the planned nuclear power plants.

가상현실을 접목한 교육용 V-Factory 시스템 개발 (Development of the Educational V-Factory system combining Virtual Reality)

  • 자동차, 반도체, 플랜트 등 다양한 산업현장에서 PLC(Programmable Logic Controller) 기반으로 생산자동화 시스템을 제어하여 제품 양산이 이루어지고 있다. 이에 따라 산업현장에서는 PLC를 능숙하게 사용할 수 있는 전문 인력과 PLC 교육을 위한 교육 플랫폼이 필요하다. 기존에 개발된 교육 플랫폼들의 경우 PLC를 기반으로 하여 다양한 액추에이터와 센서를 제어할 수 있다. 하지만 화면상 나타나는 생산자동화 시스템이 화면에 2D로만 나타나 현실성이 결여되기 때문에 학습 시 정확한 이해가 힘들다는 단점이 있다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 단점을 보완하여 가상현실에서 학습이 가능한 교육용 V-Factory 시스템을 제안한다. 개발한 V-Factory 시스템은 가상 I/O 드라이버를 도입하여 다양한 종류의 센서 및 액추에이터를 제어할 수 있고, 가상현실에서 가시화된 생산자동화 시스템이 구동되는 모습을 확인할 수 있다. 또한 HMD(Head Mounted Display)를 사용하여 현실적인 PLC 시뮬레이션이 가능하다. 개발한 V-Factory 시스템을 통해 가상현실에서 효과적인 PLC 학습이 이루어질 것으로 기대한다.

지능적인 멀티에이전트 기반 소프트웨어 PLC (Intelligent Multiagent Based Software Programmable Logic Control)

  • In this paper, I developed an intelligent multi agents based softPLC(IMPLC). In IMPLC, the standard IEC 1131-3 PLC languages(LD, SFC, FBD, ST) programmed by a user are converted to IL, which is one of intermediate codes, in order to make them interactions. And then the IL is converted to the standard C code regarding some extension and transplanting, which can be used in a commercial editor such as visual C++. In IMPLC, the logical errors and syntax errors occurred by users are detected, so that the optimal PC control based softPLC can be possible. IMPLC provide easy programming platform to such beginner as well as professionals. The study of code conversion is firstly tried in the world as well as KOREA. I applied IMPLC to 3 steps conveyer belt system. The simulation results say that the debugging steps by IMPLC using multi agents are decreased than the conventional softPLC's.

  • 시스템은 생산현장을 구성하고 있는 4M(Machlne, Man, Material, Manufacturing resources)에서 발생하는 정보 중 machine에서 발생하는 설비정보를 실시간으로 수집하여 공유하는 것은 중요하다. 일반적으로 생산설비의 수명 기간 동안 예상되는 유지 보수의 비용은 생산설비의 자동화 비용보다 상대적으로 높다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 생산설비 PLC의 실시간 데이터 공유 플랫폼(RDSP, Realtime Data Sharing Platform)을 설계하고자 한다.

  • 본 논문에서는 시뮬레이션 프로그램 리소스의 일부를 모바일 환경으로 전환시킬 수 있는 모델을 제안한다. 최근 제조업에서 PLC를 컨트롤러로 사용하는 스마트 팩토리가 급속하게 확산되고 있다. 그러나 PLC 운영 인력의 부족으로 운영에 대한 어려움을 겪고 있는 상황으로, PLC 운영 교육에 대한 플랫폼이 필요한 실정이다. 현재 PLC와 관련된 대부분의 교육 플랫폼들은 2D를 기반으로 하고 있어 정확한 학습이 어렵고, 일반적인 PC 환경에서 시뮬레이션 프로그램들을 원격 교육에 적용하면, 모니터 상에 많은 요소가 표현되어 화면 전환이 불편하다. 제안 모델의 실험 결과 일반적인 상황에서 프레임 저하가 없다는 것의 확인하였고, 요청 프레임에 따른 응답 시간은 평균 102ms 으로 학습자가 시스템 지연을 체감할 수준은 아닌 것으로 판단하였다.

A PLC-Based Optical Sub-assembly of Triplexer Using TFF-Attached WDM and PD Carriers

  • We have fabricated a planar lightwave circuit (PLC) hybrid-integrated optical sub-assembly of a triplexer using a thin film filter (TFF)-attached wavelength division multiplexer (WDM) and photodiode (PD) carriers. Two types of TFFs were attached to a diced side of a silica-terraced PLC platform, and the PD carriers with a $45^{\circ}$ mirror on which pin-PDs were bonded were assembled with the platform. A clear transmitter eye-pattern and minimum receiver sensitivity of -24.5 dBm were obtained under 1.25 Gb/s operation for digital applications, and a second-order inter-modulation distortion (IMD2) of -70 dBc was achieved for an analog receiver.

ISPLC: 지능적인 에이전트 기반 소프트웨어 PLC (ISPLC:Intelligent Agent System based Software Programmable Logic Control)

  • In this paper, we developed an editor and running engine for the SoftPLC. LD is the most popular standard IEC 1131-3 PLC language in Korea and used over 90% among the 5 PLC languages. In this paper, we have developed the ISPLC(Intelligent Agent System based Software Programmable Logic Controller). In ISPLC system, LD programmed by a user is converted to IL, which is one of intermediate codes, and IL is converted to the standard C code which can be used in a commercial editor such as visual C++. In ISPLC, the detection of logical error in high level programming(C) is more efficient than PLC programming itself. ISPLC provide easy programming platform to such beginner as well as professionals. The study of code conversion of LD-> U->C is firstly tried in the world as well as KOREA.
