  • 전력선통신(Power Line Communication: PLC)은 기존의 전력선에 고주파 신호를 중첩하는 방법으로 데이터를 전송하는 통신기술이다. 전력선통신은 연결의 편리성과 확장성 때문에 통신선로 보급이 낮은 지역의 대체 통신수단 뿐 아니라 옥내 가전기기(Home appliances)간의 통신 등으로도 주목받고 있으며, 최근 한국 전력에서도 전력선 통신 기술을 이용하여 검침값을 전송하는 원격검침시스템을 구축하고 있다. 대부분의 전력선 통신 기술은 하위 계층의 보안 프로토콜을 이용하여 안전성을 확보하고 있는데, 이는 전력선 통신의 물리적인 특성과 여러 가지 난수요소로 인해 실질적인 검침값 획득 및 변조 등의 공격이 어려울 것이라는 예측에 기반을 두고 있다. 이 논문에서는 전력선 통신의 정확한 보안성을 평가하기 위해, 먼저 하위 계층 보안 프로토콜을 포함한 전력선 통신의 동작 방식을 분석한다. 이를 통하여 검침값 데이터가 현재 상태로 전송될 경우 전력선 통신의 여려 가지 임의성에도 불구하고 검침값 변조와 같은 실질적인 공격이 가능함을 보인다. 또한 이를 보완하기 위해 다른 통신 프로토콜과 마찬가지로 상위 계층에서 보안 프로토콜이 필요함을 지적한다. 이 논문에서 제시한 전력선 통신의 동작방식 분석은 본 논문의 결론과 더불어 향후 스마트 그리드 등 대규모 사업에 사용될 전력선 통신의 표준 보안 기술 설계에 유용하게 활용될 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • Power line communication: PLC which easy to install at anywhere near outlet for electric machine. PLC uses transmission line for voltage of which is 60 Hz. Signals don't affect to electric machine in PLC because they are very small voltage. One of the important thing is the processes of adding signal to power line and extracting the signal from power line, the other is to choose the strong modulation method which sends signals long distance without loosing in PLC channel. but PLC channel have very high and variable noise and attenuation and then it is very hard to transmit optimally between the transmitter and the receiver. After all, impedance and noise problems of PLC channel must be overcame. Noises of 2 kinds which are AWGN abd impulse noise and attenuation are orated. To overcome the noise. Recently, Multi-carrier Modulation: MCM methods like as OFDM and DMT which are divide the channel into many sub-channel have been studied. those are powerful communication methods in PLC. In this paper, PLC channels made up of 3 numbers of noise and attenuation are simulated for getting BER by Matlab simulink.

  • Power plants maintenance data is to be sent to management server system via a communication network. In this case, reliable communication network is required. Transmission of the power plants maintenance data is used in the wired communication network or wireless communication network. PLC communication network is a kind of wired communication network. However PLC communication network is easily affected by noise. On the vulnerable areas in power line system, such as a mountain or rural areas, it is difficult to form a power line communication network. For a wireless communication, environment are also influenced factors in wireless communication. Harsh environmental factors are bring the communication characteristic degradation. In such areas it can be used a combination of two networks and in this way the complementary function can be achieved. Power plants are distributed in various regions across the country. The appropriate communication network is needed to maintain the power plant.This study investigated the effect of environment on the wired communication and wireless communication. It would examine a variable factor which is affect to the communication characteristic. We used PLC communication for wired communication network and ZigBee communication for wireless communication network. We investigated the characteristics of a single communication network and it raised the need for a complex communication technology to complement a single communication network.

전력선 통신 시스템 설계를 위한 주택배선의 선로특성 분석 (Analysis of Characteristics of Residential Distribution Line for Design of Power Line Communication Systems)

  • 본 논문에서는 주택에서 전력선을 이용한 전력선 통신(PLC)을 위해 기본적으로 선행되어야 하는 선로정수를 측정하고 분석하였다. 주택의 표준적인 선로정수 분석을 위해서 국내 주택의 보편적인 형태의 아파트를 모델로 하였으며 Agilent 4263B LCR Meter를 이용하여 구간별로 세부적인 측정을 하여 구체적인 결과를 표로 나타내고 평균을 취하여 분석하였다. 측정한 결과 일반적인 수식으로 계산한 값과는 선로배열, 기본적으로 무시된 전제조건과 복소 유전율 등으로 인한 차이가 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 국내 주택의 시공에서 주로 사용되는 전선의 종류와 배선형태를 나타내었으며 선로 특성을 주파수영역에서 분석하여 전력선 통신 시스템의 설계 자료로 활용할 수 있도록 하였다.

  • The existing monitoring and control systems of utility-pipe conduit (power tunnel, cable tunnel etc) have established communication lines using optical fiber, leaky coaxial cable (LCX), and several kinds of control cable. Due to the properties of the used media, the cost of equipment is considerably high and the maintenance of the system is difficult. Also, the term of carrying out is long so that the extension of the system is in difficulty. Now it is desirable to adopt Power Line Communication (hereinafter, PLC) technology in the monitoring and control systems and use the existing low-voltage power-line for lamplight as communication line. This will lead the reduction of the construction cost and the easy maintenance of the system. In this paper, we research the characteristics of PLC in conduit, design and manufacture the field test system, and analyze the performance of the system by field test. Then, we introduce the reliable monitoring and control system of utility-pipe conduit using PLC.

Study on Efficient Impulsive Noise Mitigation for Power Line Communication

  • In this paper, we propose the efficient impulsive noise mitigation scheme for power line communication (PLC) systems in smart grid applications. The proposed scheme estimates the channel impulsive noise information of receiver by applying machine learning. Then, the estimated impulsive noise is updated in data base. In the modulator, the impulsive noise which reduces the PLC performance is effectively mitigated through proposed technique. As an impulsive noise model, Middleton Class A interference model was employed. The performance is evaluated in terms of bit error rate (BER). From the simulation results, it is confirmed that the proposed scheme has better BER performance compared to the conventional model. As a result, the proposed noise mitigation improves the signal quality of PLC systems by effectively removing the channel noise. The results of the paper can be applied to PLC systems for smart grid.

  • 본 논문은 건설교통부의 국도 ITS에 도로변의 현장설비와 센터간 교통정보 수집체계에 전력선통신(Power Line Communication, PLC)망 적용에 관한 연구이다. 지능형교통시스템(Intelligent Transport System, ITS)에서 사용하고 있는 기존의 유 무선 통신망과 PLC망과의 통신 용량 및 속도, 구축 및 운영비용, 데이터 신뢰성 등을 비교하여 적용 가능성을 분석하였다.

  • This paper is designated to introduce the method of reducing stand-by Power of SMPS applied PLC(Power Line Communication) and its implementation. PLC modem consists mainly of PLC Module, Coupling Circuit, ZCP(Zero-Cross Point) Circuit and Power Supply Circuit. By controlling power from Power Supply Circuit to PLC Module and ZCP Circuit, the reduction of Stand-by Power is established. When this method is applied to SMPS used for a low-speed PLC, about 50% power reduction is provided, compared to the other case to which it is not applied.

  • Recently, a lot of studies on the power line communication(PLC) are being done by many companies and institutes due to its own merit which can use the power line spread widely as a communication channel. But, there are many serious problems about the harsh and unpredictable characteristics, or noise, signal distortion and attenuation to be overcome for commercialization. In this paper, the power line characteristics as the view point of communication channel are investigated and the technologies of PLC are proposed to control the power of electric machineries by using the combined method of ASK modulation and microprocessor technologies. Also experiments are carried out to ascertain performance in case of applying to electric lights control according to various distancea as an example.

  • This paper presents the implementation of Power Line Communication(PLC) module which can reduce standby-power consumption. The suggested PLC module consists of PLC modem, coupling circuit, ZCP(Zero-Cross Point) Circuit and main SMPS control relay. The test results under power line communication test-bed used home appliance show the 77% saving of standby-power.
