Analysis: of the propulsion performance considering ship motion in waves is an important factor for the efficient operation of a ship. The interaction between the propeller and the free surface due to the ship motion in waves has a significant influence on the propulsion performance. However, most recent studies regarding the hydrodynamic performance of ships in waves focus on the added resistance, and experimental and numerical data on the propulsion performance considering the ship motion in waves are very rare. In this study, a numerical investigation of the nominal wake in regular head waves is performed for a KVLCC2 model ship for the fully-loaded condition. Phase-averaged wake fields for one period are compared with experimental data measured using Stereo PIV, showing good agreement. The effect of the ship motion on the characteristics of the wake field and the axial velocity in the propeller plane are investigated while varying the wave length.

In this study, the swimming behavior of a small box jellyfish (Carybdea brevipedalia), which consists of inhaling external seawater and expelling it through its mouth to generate forward thrust, was characterized using particle image velocimetry (PIV). The flow rate and structure during the suction and discharge process were quantitatively analyzed. During swimming, there was a change in the ratio of the internal area during inhalation and expulsion. Specifically, there was a 1.10-fold difference between the maximum area after inhalation and the minimum area after discharge. The maximum distance traveled after discharge was inversely proportional to the size of the inner area, with a 2.48-fold difference in the minimum distance traveled after suction. Depending on the propulsion stage, the inner area decreased and then increased in proportion to the moving distance and speed. The moving distance of the small box jellyfish was measured for each period. The speed for each swimming stage increased and then decreased at intervals of 0.15 to 0.2 seconds, and the suction and discharge cycle period was measured at approximately 0.5 seconds. Collectively, our findings provide a methodological basis for studying the swimming behavior of small and highly active trailing jet jellyfish, as well as the biological mechanisms that determine this behavior.

From large to small vessels of the surface is not smooth. and The surface ship has a surface roughness. Because surface roughness increases the surface resistance and heat transfer, be considered when designing a ship that is an important design factor. Due to surface roughness study on flow around and due to changes in flow and turbulence intensity for the ongoing research is conducted. Roughness of the surface ships from the ship by air as well as machines can be widely applied. In this study, the surface roughness of the leisure marine interval, any change will affect the surface flow, area due to surface roughness for boundary-experimental study was performed.

Purpose: A 2-dose varicella vaccination strategy has been introduced in many countries worldwide, aiming to increase vaccine effectiveness (VE) against varicella infection. In this network meta-analysis, we aimed to provide a comprehensive evaluation and an overall estimated effect of varicella vaccination strategies, via a Bayesian model. Methods: For each eligible study, we collected trial characteristics, such as: 1-dose vs. 2-dose, demographic characteristics, and outcomes of interest. For studies involving different doses, we aggregated the data for the same number of doses delivered into one arm. The preventive effect of 1-dose vs. 2-dose of varicella vaccine were evaluated in terms of the odds ratio (OR) and corresponding equal-tailed 95% confidence interval (95% CI). Results: A total of 903 studies were retrieved during our literature search, and 25 interventional or observational studies were selected for the Bayesian network meta-analysis. A total of 49,265 observed individuals were included in this network meta-analysis. Compared to the 0-dose control group, the OR of all varicella infections were 0.087 (95% CI, 0.046-0.164) and 0.310 (95% CI, 0.198-0.484) for 2-doses and one-dose, respectively, which corresponded to VE of 69.0% (95% CI, 51.6-81.2) and VE of 91.3% (95% CI, 83.6-95.4) for 1- and 2-doses, respectively. Conclusions: A 2-dose vaccine strategy was able to significantly reduce varicella burden. The effectiveness of 2-dose vaccination on reducing the risk of infection was demonstrated by sound statistical evidence, which highlights the public health need for a 2-dose vaccine recommendation.

The Fluorescence-Activated Cell Sorter (FACS) is a well-established instrument used for identifying, enumerating, classifying and sorting cells by their physical and optical characteristics. For a miniaturized FACS device, a disposable plastic microchip has been developed which has a hydrodynamic focusing chamber using soft lithography. As the characteristics of the spatially confined sample stream have an effect on sample throughput, detection efficiency, and the accuracy of cell sorting, systematic fluid dynamic studies are required. Flow visualization is conducted with a laser scanning confocal microscopy (LSCM), and three-dimensional flow structure of the focused sample stream is reconstructed from 2D slices acquired at $1\mutextrm{m}$ intervals in depth. It was observed that the flow structure in the focusing chamber is skewed by unsymmetrical velocity profile arising from trapezoidal cross section of the microchannel. For a quantitative analysis of a microscopic flow structure, Confocal Micro-PIV system has been developed to evaluate the accelerated flow field in the focusing chamber. This study proposes a method which defines the depth of the measurement volume using a detection pinhole. The trajectories of red blood cells (RBCs) and their interactions with surrounding flow field in the squeezed sample stream are evaluated to find optimal shape of the focusing chamber and fluid manipulation scheme for stable cell transporting, efficient detection, and sorting

Test uncertainty of a towed underwater Stereoscopic Particle Image Velocimetry (SPIV) system was assessed in a towing tank. To estimate the systematic error and random error of mean velocity and turbulence properties measurement, velocity field of uniform flow was measured. Total uncertainty of the axial component of mean velocity was 1.45% of the uniform flow speed and total uncertainty of turbulence properties was 3.03%. Besides, variation of particle displacement was applied to identify the change of error distribution. In results for variation of particle displacement, the error rapidly increases with particle movement under one pixel. In addition, a nominal wake of a model ship was measured and compared with existing experimental data by five-hole Pitot tubes, Pitot-static tube, and hot wire anemometer. For mean velocity, small local vortex was identified with high spatial resolution of SPIV, but has serious disagreement in local maxima of turbulence properties due to limited sampling rate.

Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and particle image velocimetry (PIV) are commonly used techniques to evaluate the flow characteristics in the development stage of blood pumps. CFD technique allows rapid change to pump parameters to optimize the pump performance without having to construct a costly prototype model. These techniques are used in the construction of a bi-ventricular assist device (BVAD) which combines the functions of LVAD and RVAD in a compact unit. The BVAD construction consists of two separate chambers with similar impellers, volutes, inlet and output sections. To achieve the required flow characteristics of an average flow rate of 5 l/min and different pressure heads (left - 100mmHg and right - 20mmHg), the impellers were set at different rotating speeds. From the CFD results, a six-blade impeller design was adopted for the development of the BVAD. It was also observed that the fluid can flow smoothly through the pump with minimum shear stress and area of stagnation which are related to haemolysis and thrombosis. Based on the compatible Reynolds number the flow through the model was calculated for the left and the right pumps. As it was not possible to have both the left and right chambers in the experimental model, the left and right pumps were tested separately.
$Guillain-Barr{\acute{e}}$ syndrome (GBS) is caused by antecedent infectious diseases in approximately two-thirds of cases. GBS is considered an autoimmune response. Among reported preceding infections, influenza virus is relatively rare. Several reports have identified antibodies related to GBS pathogenesis. However, no case report has described the detection of influenza virus in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of a patient with GBS by polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Here we report the case of a 6-year-old girl who was diagnosed with influenza A 1 week prior and was treated with oseltamivir, after which she visited our hospital for headache and bilateral leg weakness that had persisted for 1 day. We diagnosed her with GBS based on physical and neurologic examination findings, CSF analysis, nerve conduction velocity test results, spinal magnetic resonance imaging, and detection of influenza A virus in her CSF by PCR. She was treated with intravenous immunoglobulin and her symptoms slowly improved. This case report suggests that GBS may be caused by influenza virus through penetration of the CSF.

In the present work, the main features of primary vortices and the vorticity concentrations downstream of vortex bursting in crossflow plane of a delta wing with a sweep angle of Λ=70° were investigated under the variation of the sideslip angles, β. For the pre-review of flow structures, dye visualization was conducted. In connection with a qualitative observation, a quantitative flow analysis was performed by employing Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). The sideslip angles, β were varied with four different angles, such as 0°, 4°, 12°, and 20° while angles of attack, α were altered between 25° and 35°. This study mainly focused on the instantaneous flow features sequentially located at different crossflow planes such as x/C=0.6, 0.8 and 1.0. As a summary, time-averaged and instantaneous non-uniformity of turbulent flow structures are altered considerably resulting in non-homogeneous delta wing surface loading as a function of the sideslip angle. The vortex bursting location on the windward side of the delta wing advances towards the leading-edge point of the delta wing. The trajectory of the primary vortex on the leeward side slides towards sideways along the span of the delta wing. Besides, the uniformity of the lift coefficient, CL over the delta wing plane was severely affected due to unbalanced distribution of buffet loading over the same plane caused by the variation of the sideslip angle, β. Consequently, dissimilarities of the leading-edge vortices result in deterioration of the mean value of the lift coefficient, CL.
