  • The Industrial Mixers are used in various industrial fields where they are necessary to intimately mix two reactants in a short period of time. However, despite their widespread use, complex unsteady flow characteristics of industrial mixers are not systematically investigated. The present study aims for clarify unsteady flow characteristics induced by various impellers in a tank. Impellers are pitched blade turbine(PBT) types. Screw type and Rushton turbine type. In this study choice of the Industrial Mixer's Impeller type for distribution of concentration and PIV measurement method. The rotating speed of impellers are fixed by 100RPM.

  • A panoramic-PIV technique is employed to characterize the travelling tip vortices and the profile of oil-water Interface in the tandem fence arrangement. Instantaneous as well as time-averaged velocity profiles of the water layer close to the interface were obtained to evaluate the possibility of measuring the shear stress distribution on oil-water interface. It was proven that the present technique could provide some qualify data precise enough to resolve detailed flow structures inside a shear layer formed on oil-water interface provided it is nearly stationary.

  • The mean and RMS velocity field of the respiratory gas flow in the human airway was studied experimentally by particle image velocimetry (PIV). Some researchers investigated the airflow for the mouth breathing case both experimentally and numerically. But it is very rare to investigate the airflow of nose breathing in a whole airway due to its geometric complexity. We established the procedure to create a transparent rectangular box containing a model of the human airway for PIV measurement by combination of the RP and the curing of clear silicone. We extend this to make a whole airway including nasal cavities, larynx, trachea, and 2 generations of bronchi. The CBC algorithm with window offset (64 $\times$ 64 to 32 $\times$ 32) is used for vector searching in PIV analysis. The phase averaged mean and RMS velocity distributions in Sagittal and coronal planes are obtained for 7 phases in a respiratory period. Some physiologic conjectures are obtained. The main stream went through the backside of larynx and trachea in inspiration and the frontal side in expiration. There exist vortical motions in inspiration, but no prominent one in expiration.

  • In this study, We modeled the deck house of the container ship like the representative bluff body and made the model ship. By using the PIV technique, the exhaust gas anti-reflux effect of the deck house backward according to open and close of the Sunken Deck and installation of the deflector in deck house side were measured in circulating water channel. The experiment system consists of hi-speed camera, laser, image board, host computer. The mean velocity vector and time mean axial velocity were found in deck house backward and the results were compared each case.

  • The turbulent flows in a tunnel mock-up($10L{\times}0.5W{\times}0.25H$ m3 : scale reduction 1/20) with rectangular cross section were investigated. The instantaneous velocity fields of Re = 49,029, 89,571 were measured by the 2-D PIV system which is consisted of double pulsed Nd:Yag laser and the tracer particles in the straight-duct mock-up where the flows were fully developed. The mean velocity profiles were taken from the ensemble averages of 1,000 instantaneous velocity fields. Simultaneously, numerical simulations(RANS) were performed to compare with experimental data using STREAM code. Non-linear eddy viscosity model (NLEVM : Abe-Jang-Leschziner Eddy Viscosity Model) was employed to resolve the turbulent flows in the duct. The calculated mean velocity profiles were well compared with PIV results. In the log-law profiles, the experimental data were in good agreement with numerical simulations all the way to the wake region except the viscous sub-layer (near wall region).

  • A time-resolved two-phase PIV system using a single camera has been developed, which introduces a method of image separation into respective phase images, and is applied to freely rising single bubble. Gas bubble, tracer particle and background have different gray intensity ranges on the same image frame when reflection and dispersion in the phase interface are intrinsically eliminated by optical filters and fluorescent particles. Further, the signals of the two phases do not interfere with each other. Gas phase velocities are obtained from the separated bubble image by applying the two-frame PTV. On the other hand, liquid phase velocities are obtained from the tracer particle image by applying the cross-correlation algorithm. As a result, the bubble rises rectilinearly just after it is released from an injector and then has a zigzag motion in the far field. From the trajectory of the bubble, it is found that the period of the zigzag motion is closely related to the vortex shedding although the wavelength of it varies along its movement.

  • The control surface on a ship is to control the motion of it in forward and backward states. In this paper, the measured results has been compared with each other to predict the backward flow characteristics of the single rudder's 2-dimensional section at $Re=2.0\times10^4$ using 2-frame grey level cross correlation PIV method especially, The separation region appears at 10 to 20 degrees angle of attack in a forward state. The separation point and boundary layer demonstrate in the same angle of attack compared it with the forward states.

  • The flow field around baffle located sudden expansion and contraction channel was measured by PIV method and the effect according to height change of baffle built in the flow field was evaluated. The inlet flow velocity and the baffle height influence mutually to the size and flow pattern of the recycle flow of the back of the baffle and the size of the area of the water power jump passing the upper part of the baffle. In case of Reynolds number $Re=4{\times}10^3$, the critical value of baffle height is estimated around h/H=1.6 and there was a decreasing tendency as the inlet flow velocity was increased.
