  • In this papers, we study the characteristics of dual band PIFA(Planar Inverted F antenna) for handy phones using H-type silt in the antenna radiators. Slit types on the antenna radiator vary resonance mechanism of the antenna and affect reactance component of impedance for the antenna. Therefore the antennas resonate at the dual band(cellular -band, Korea-PCS band), the bandwidth, input impedance and radiation patterns of the proposed antenna is affected by the silt length on the radiators. In order to demonstrate the validity of the proposed theory, it is implementation the antenna of the 4 types. From results for the experiment of the implementation antenna, -5 dB bandwidth of return loss is content with the allocated bandwidth of Cellular and Korea-PCS system the gains of the antenna is about -8$\~$ - 1 dB, the radiation patterns for x-polarized or y-polarized are omnidirectional pattern. From above the results of this papers, it is conclude mobile phones antenna for handy phones using this papers results.

  • In this paper, MIMO antenna with low correlation for LTE band 5(824~894 MHz) was designed by adopting monopole antenna and slot antenna. Based on ground characteristic mode theory, MIMO antenna was designed using different types of antennas for enhancement of correlation. MIMO antenna using PIFA and slot type antennas is proposed and correlation coefficient was compared with MIMO antenna using two PIFAs. Average correlation coefficient of MIMO antenna using two PIFAs was 0.71 but the proposed MIMO antenna had very low correlation coefficient of 0.17.

  • In this paper, the detection of 1 g and 10 g averaged SAR on human head caused by PCS handheld phones is analyzed and discussed. Conventional monopole antenna and planar structured PIFA are used in the computational model to apply to the antennas mounted on handheld phone. These antennas are designed to operate in the near of frequency 1.8 GHz, human head model is sampled to have cell size 1.5 mm and sloped to front direction by 30$^{\circ}$. It is found that, when monopole antenna is applied, 1 g averaged SAR is 1.4 W/kg, 10 g averaged SAR is 0.7 W/kg, when PIFA is applied, for each case, SARs are 1.143 W/kg, 0.4866 W/kg. While the radiation pattern of the monopole antenna is symmetrical, that of planar structured antenna is asymmetrical and SAR caused by PIFA is less than SAR by the monopole antenna. The radiation efficiency of PIFA is 62.6%, which is higher than that of monopole, 53%.

  • In the communication, a reconfigurable antenna using two PIN diodes is presented for quad-band(GSM900/GSM1800/GSM1900/UMTS) mobile handset applications. The proposed antenna has a size $45{\times}11{\times}6mm^3$. By independently adjusting the on/off states of two PIN diodes located on the radiating element, the proposed structure can be operated in the PIFA and loop mode, respectively. The PIN diodes are replaced by conducting tape in order to verify the concept. In regards to the fabricated reconfigurable antenna, when operating in the PIFA mode, the measured results show that the 7 dB bandwidth is 8.62 %. which covers the GSM900(880~960 MHz) band. When operating in the loop mode, the measured results show that the 7 dB bandwidth is 26.36 %, which covers the GSM1800(1,710~1,880 MHz), GSM1900(1,850~1,990 MHz), and UMTS(1,920~2,170 MHz) bands, respectively.

  • In this paper, we proposed the metal tag antenna of PIFA structure with an isotropic radiation pattern when tag attached the metal material. The antenna consist of antenna body, horizontal patch and ground, and inserted a substrate with high dielectric constant between the antenna body and ground in order to miniaturize the antenna size. The antenna body with symmetric structure is designed to produce an oppositely directed currents. The simulation shows the impedance bandwidth has 20 MHz (900 ~ 920 MHz) and the maximum radiation gain satisfy the -10 dBi and -15 dBi when the tag is in air and attach the metal material. Also, the proposed antenna operates with an isotropic radiation pattern due to satisfy the gain deviation lower than 6 dB, respectively.

  • In this paper, a novel triple-band planar inverted F antenna(PIFA) is proposed. The goal of this paper is to design a small antenna which is operated in triple band. Using T-shape slit and stacked U-shape parasitic patch, good impedance matching is achieved in three band. T-shape slit is inserted on the main patch in order to effectively control the excited patch surface current distributions. The proposed antenna occupies a small volume of $26{\times}9.5{\times}6mm^3$, and the obtained impedance bandwidths cover the required operating bandwidths of the GPS(1565-1585MHz), IMT-2000(1885-2200MHz) and Bluetooth (2400-2484MHz) bands.

  • Two planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) arrays are proposed as an alternative model to generate input and radiation characteristics of two orthogonal oriented circular loops, which has polarization diversity, but inherent mechanical instability of two orthogonal loops, in particular, in installation and operation conditions. Two $1\times2$ PIFA sub-arrays are orthogonally placed on a ground plane and two different feeding networks are applied to control horizontal and vertical radiation current flows for each sub-array, respectively. Equivalence of scattering parameters and radiation patterns between two antennas are validated by the available commercial simulator.

  • This letter presents the design for a low-profile planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) that can be stuck to metallic objects to create a passive radio frequency identification (RFID) tag in the UHF band. The designed PIFA, which uses a dielectric substrate for the antenna, consists of a U-slot patch for size reduction, several shorting pins, and a coplanar waveguide feeding structure to easily integrate with an RFID chip. The impedance bandwidth and maximum gain of the tag antenna are about 0.3% at 914 MHz for a voltage standing wave ratio (VSWR) of less than 2 and 3.6 dBi, respectively. The maximum read range is about 4.5 m as long as the tag antenna is on a metallic object.

  • In this paper, on calculating SARs on human head using computer simulation, SARs caused by PCS handsets are calculated and compared, and the design parameters that affect SAR values are analyzed. Is and 10 g peak averaged SARs are calculated as the type of antenna, the location of antenna, and the type of handset are changed and SAR distributions as depth of human head are shown. Among the antennas on flip type handsets, side mounted PIFA has the lowest SARs 1g and 10g peak averaged SARs are 0.686W/kg and 0.353W/kg. The SARs caused by monopole antenna on folder type handset are 1.133W/kg and 0.709W/kg. and are about 30% lower than monopole 1.759W/kg and 0.978W/kg, respectively. SAR distributions as depth of human head of side mounted PIFA and monopole antenna on folder-type handset are more slowly changed than those of top mounted PIFA and monopole antenna on flip-type handset.
