  • In this paper, PET(Ployethylene Terephthalate) films with semiconducting and interface layers were investigated, The electrical properties, such as volume resistivity, tan$\delta$(dissipation factor) and breakdown strength at various temperatures were measured. Thermal analysis of PET and semiconducting films were measured and compared by differential scanning calorimeter(DSC) of each film. It is found that the volume resistivity of films(dependence on semiconducting interface layers)and electrical properties of PET films are changed ,Breakdown strength and dissipation factor of PET films with semiconducting layer (PET/S/PET) are decreased more greatly than PET and PET/PET films, due to the increase of charge density of charges at two contacted interfaces between PET and semiconductor, The dissipation factor of each films in increased with temperature,. For PET/S/PET film, is depended on temperature more than PET of PET/PET. However, the breakdown strength is increased up to 85$\^{C}$ and then decreased over 100$\^{C}$The electrical properties of PET films with semiconducting/interface layer are worse than without it It is due to a result of temperature dependency, which deeply affects thermal resistance property of PET film more than semiconducting/interface layers.

  • In this paper, the electrical conduction, breakdown strength and dielectric properties were investigated in the interfaces of PET films. The volume resistivity and breakdown strength were decreased; especially the specimens with semiconductive layer showed the lowest breakdown strength. This decrease of electrical properties was appeared by increasing charge density in inhomogeneous layer of PET. The dielectric properties of PET did not show significant difference with PET/PET but the films with semiconductive interface layer showed the increase in capacitance and $tan\delta$ was affected by the PET rather than semiconductive layer. It is assumed that the variation of $tan\delta$ was affected by the dielectric polarization and the leakage current(charge).

  • Blend resin (PET/PETG 70/30 blend) of poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET) and poly (ethylene terephthalate glycol) (PETG) of weight percent 70/30 was prepared by a twin-screw extruder. Undrawn films of the blend and pure PETG were made by melt-press in hot press. Drawn films were made by capillary rheometer. Crystallinity, shrinkage, thermal, dynamic mechanical, and mechanical properties of these blends and PETG drawn films were investigated by wide angle X-ray diffractometer, dry oven, DSC thermal analyzer, and tensile tester. The crystallinity and density of these films increased with increasing draw ratio and draw rate but decreased with increasing draw temperature. The crystallinity and density of the blend films were higher than those of PETG films. The tensile strength and tensile modulus of these drawn alms increased with increasing draw ratio and draw rate but decreased with increasing draw temperature. The tensile strength and tensile modulus of blend films were higher than those of PETG films. Shrinkage of PETG md blend films decreased with draw ratio and draw rate. Shrinkage of undrawn blend film was 600% higher than that of pure PET film.

  • This study was carried out with the view of fundamental investigating to improve the tactile and the hygroscopicity of Poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET) fibers. Mono-sodium ethylene glycolate in ethylene glycol (MSEG-EG) solution was prepared and PET films were treated with it. The following conclusions were obtained. 1. The tensile strength decreased with increasing decomposition ratio while density, crystallinity and crystallite size increased with increasing decomposition ratio when PET films were treated with MSEG-EG solution. 2. Number of carboxyl end groups was increased until 10-20% decomposition ratio when PET films were treated with MSEG-EG solution. However, the decomposition ratio became more than 20%, the number of carboxyl end groups had tendency to decreased. 3. The surface tension of PET films increased for treating with MSEC-EG solution. Hydrogen bonding force and poler force among the components of surface tension increased while dispersion force among those decreased. 4. The moisture region of PET films increased with increasing decomposition ratio when PET films were treated with MSEG-EG solution.

  • Phosphorescent PET/liquid color films and phosphorescent PET/disperse dyes films were prepared by melt casting method using Hot press. Then, weight ratios and exhaustion percent of films were 0.7, 1.2, 1.5, 2.0, and 2.3 wt.%. The effects of L/C and D/D contents(wt.%) of films on the thermal properties, crystal structure, H(%), brightness$(mcd/mm^2)$, morphology, and tensile properties were investigated by means of DSC and WAXD, etc. It was found that the melting temperature and crystalline diffraction peaks were not changes with increasing the liquid color contents and disperse dyes exhaustion. Also, in case of using liquid color to phosphorescent PET film, the H(%) and brightness$(mcd/mm^2)$ value were superior to phos.PET/disperse dyes film. The tensile strength and the tensile modulus were decreased with increasing the contents of liquid color and exhaustion of disperse dyes in the phosphorescent PET film. Also, the elongation at break was increased with increasing the contents of liquid color and exhaustion of disperse dyes in the phosphorescent PET film.

  • This paper presents an investigation of the phase-resolved partial discharge (PD) pattern of PET (Poly Ethylene Telephthalate) films with carbon black particles. The phase-resolved PD pattern and statistical parameter from PET samples according to the number of included semiconductor particles were measured. The measurement system consisted of a conventional PD detector using a digital signal processing technique. The partial discharge patterns of the PET films that include the semiconductor particles were investigated to simulate an actual situation that may exist in the cable. In addition, difference of PD patterns between semiconducting particles in PET films and artificial voids was studied. The relationship between the numbers of semiconductor particles in PET films was discussed through the difference of Ψ-q-n distribution and statistical analysis.

  • To identify applicability for packaging material of polyvinyl alcohol (PVA)/boric acid (BA) coating solution with highly-enhanced water vapor and oxygen barrier properties, the PET/PVA-BA/OPP multi-layer films were prepared through comma coating and lamination process. The oxygen and water vapor permeabilities, and tensile strength of as-prepared multi-layer films were investigated before and after pressure cooker test (PCT). Although oxygen and water vapor permeabilites, and mechanical properties of PET/PVA-BA/OPP multi-layer films was decreased after PCT, their properties were highly enhanced as increase of BA contents in PVA matrix. This is strongly related with enhanced cross-linking density in PVA-BA layer. In storage test of seasoned-laver, the PET/PVA-BA/OPP multi-layer films were comparatively effective to suppress the increase in peroxide value originating from oxidation of seasoned-laver. Comparing the commercially available PP/Al-metallized PP for seasoned-laver packaging, however, PET/PVA-BA/OPP multi-layer films did not show any advantage in water activity. This is due to higher water vapor permeation properties of as-prepared multi-layer films. Therefore, further studies are required to enhance the water vapor permeation in PET/PVA-BA/OPP multi-layer films.

  • ITO (indium tin oxide) thin films on PET (polyethylene terephthalate) substrate have been deposited by a dc reactive magnetron sputtering without heat treatments such as substrate heater and post heat treatment. Each sputtering parameter during the sputtering deposition is an important factor for the high quality of ITO thin films deposited on polymeric substrate. Particularly, the material, electrical and optical properties of as-deposited ITO oxide films are dominated by the ratio of oxygen partial pressure. As the experimental results, the excellent ITO films are prepared on PET substrate at the operating conditions as follows : operating pressure of 5 mTorr, target-substrate distance of 45mm, do power of 20~30W, and oxygen gas ratio of 10%. The optical transmittance is above 80% at 550 nm, and the sheet resistance and resistivity of films are 24 Ω/square and $1.5\times$10$^{-3}$ Ωcm, respectively.
