To control the hydrolysis rate of PET fabric with NaOH, HCl and $CH_3$COOH(HAc), as regulating reagent, were added to the 0.5 M NaOH solution. The concentrations of acids in 0.5 M NaOH were varied. PET fabrics were treated with aqueous solutions of acids in 0.5 M NaOH under different conditions. The weight loss of PET fabric, the rate of hydrolysis, the apparent activation energy (E$_{\alpha}$), the handle value, the etched surface of treated PET fabric, and the effect of salts such as NaCl, $CH_3$COONa(NaAc), and NH$_4$Cl on the weight loss were discussed. Acids in the aqueous 0.5 M NaOH solution decreased the weight loss of PET fabric bacause of neutralization of OH- and the weight loss of PET fabrics treated with corresponding concentration of aqueous NaOH solution to the concentrations of the aqueous solutions of acids in 0.5 M NaOH was lower than that of PET fabrics treated with aqueous solutions of acids in 0.5 M NaOH. The addition of NaCl to aqueous NaOH solution accelerated the reaction of OH- with PET greatly, the addition of NaAc increased the weight loss slightly, but the addition of NH$_4$Cl decreased the weight loss. It was thought that the very remarkable result that NaCl in aqueous NaOH solution promoted the hydrolysis of PET with NaOH would contribute to the conservation of energy and NaOH in the weight loss finishing process of PET fabric. The etched surface and the handle value of treated PET fabric were independent of the difference in the kinds of acids and salts added.nd salts added.
A new flame retardant diphenyl butylamidophosphate (DPBAP) for PET fabric was synthesized and its flame retardancy was examined. The results have shown that PET fabrics treated by DPBAP(with DPBAP and on 4-10 %) show excellent flame retardancy. Since the DPBAP treated PET fabric show essentially no change in the drape stiffness and the tensile strength, it is believed that DPBAP is chemically stable in PET fabric. In addition to this, the washing fastness of DPBAP on PET fabric tested by the 5 times of water washing method also appeared to be excellent. Judging from the fact that DPBAP was synthesized from relatively cheap material as well as the above cited DPBAP properties as a good flame retardant, the potential of DPBAP to be developed as a commercial flame retardant for PET fabric seems to be high.
The purpose of this study is to analyze the dyeability of polyester(PET) fabric by thermal bonding with low melting component of bicomponent fiber and to describe the change of physical properties of thermal bonded PET fabrics. The PET fabrics were prepared with regular PET fiber as warp and bicomponent fiber as weft. The bicomponent fiber of sheath-core type was composed with a regular PET core and low melting PET sheath. The thermal bonding of PET fabric was carried out in pin tenter($195^{\circ}C$) for 60 seconds. In this study, we investigated the dye ability and fastness of the dyed PET fabric. Dye ability of E-type dyestuff is higher than S-type dyestuff. In the case of E- type dyestuff, the saturated dyeing time was 10minutes at $130^{\circ}C$. The washing fastness and light fastness were excellent as 4-5grade.

The effects of changing aqueous solution properties by nonionic surfactants on wetting behavior and water retention properies of hydrophobic PET (polyethylene terephthalate) fabric were reported. The aqueous solution properties were diversified by mixing and diluting two nonionic surfactants, i.e., sorbitan monolaurate (Span 20) and polyoxyethylene(20) sorbitan monolaurate (Tween 20). The surface wetting properties ($cos{\theta}$) of PET fabric were greatly improved by adding $10^{-1}g/dl$ Tween 20 and further improved by mixing Span 20 to the system. The water retention properties (W) of PET fabric were also greatly increased by addition of $10^{-1}g/dl$ Tween 20. In diluted surfactant systems, the $cos{\theta}'s$ were increased with decreasing surface tension of aqueous liquids. The ratios of aqueous liquid retained in the pore structure to liquid retention capacity (W/H) were also increased with decreasing surface tension, however, W/H values were dramatically increased right after critical micelle concentration (cmc). The existence of micelles was important for the retention of aqueous liquids in the fabric. The critical surface tension of PET fabric used was found to be 28.7dyne/cm.

Effect of interfacial electrical conditions on adhesion of ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ particles to PET fabric and the removal of ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ particles from PET fabric, were investigated as functions of pH, electrolyte and ionic strength. The ${\zeta}$ potential of PET fiber and ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ particles in the electrolyte solution were measured by streaming potential and microelectrophoresis methods respectively. The potential energy of interaction between ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ particles and PET fabric were calculated by using the heterocoagulation theory for a sphere-plate model. The negative ${\zeta}$ potential of ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ particle and PET fiber increased with pH, and then decreased certain pH and isoelectric points of ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ particles and PET fiber were pH 6.5 and pH 3.5, respectively. The negative ${\zeta}$ potential of ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ particle and PET fiber affected by electrolytes, were relatively high with polyanion electrolytes in solutions and were low with neutral salts. However, at surfactant solution, ${\zeta}$ potential was levelled off. The influence of the ionic strength on the ${\zeta}$ potential of ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ particle was small but the negative ${\zeta}$ potential of PET fiber increased with the ionic strength. In the presence of anionic surfactant, the ${\zeta}$ potential of ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ particle and PET fiber increased regardless of solution conditions. The interaction energy between ${\alpha}-Fe_2O_3$ particle and PET fabric increased with pH. The interaction energy was relatively high with polyanion electrolytes in solution, and the influence of ionic strength on the interaction energy was small, and the effective thickness of electrical double layer increased with decreasing the ionic strength.
Dyeing and color fastness properties of a reactive disperse dye containing an acetoxyethylsulphone group on PET, Nylon, silk and N/P fabrics were examined. The reactive disperse dye exhibited almost the same dyeing properties on PET fabric as a conventional disperse dye except the level of dye uptake. The most appropriate pH and dyeing temperature for the dyeing of Nylon fabric were 7 and $100^{\circ}C$ respectively. The build-up on Nylon fabric was good and various color fastnesses were good to excellent due to the formation of the covalent bond. Application of the reactive disperse dye on silk fabric at pH 9 and $80^{\circ}C$ yielded optimum color strength. The rate of dyeing on Nylon fabric was faster than that on PET fabric when both fabrics were dyed simultaneously in a dye bath, accordingly color strength of the dyed Nylon was higher. The reactive disperse dye can be applied for one-step and one-bath dyeing of N/P mixture fabric with good color fastness.
This research investigated the physical properties of PET coolness filaments and their knitted fabrics including dyeing characteristics of these knitted fabrics according to the different dyeing time and temperature. The coolness filament(S) with non-circular cross-section and hydrophilic property was spun and another commercialized coolness(A) and regular(R) PET filaments were prepared for comparing coolness and another physical properties. Qmax of coolness knitted fabric made with S filament was higher than that of R-PET filament, and the maximum value of Qmax of S knitted fabric was shown at the dyeing conditions of temperature, $110^{\circ}C$ with 30 min. or 40min. It was shown that hand of S knitted fabric was a little harsh comparing to A and regular knit specimens, but shape retention and wearing performance of garment made with S knit specimen were estimated as good owing to high bending and shear rigidity. K/S of S knitted fabric was higher than those of regular PET and A knit specimens. Dyeing fastness of coolness knitted fabric showed between 4th and 5th grade.
In order to make a microfiber fabric with PET/Co-PET Sea-Island Type microfiber, the optimum condition of extraction and elimination of Co-PET from the microfiber was examined. At the same time, the physical property change of the fabric with respect to the change of the relative amount of the Co-PET in the microfiber was also examined to provide a directly applicable data set to the industry. The sample fabric used was warp 75/36(DTY) and weft 0.05d(PET/Co-PET, Sea Island Type Microfiber) twill fabric of 36 separated yarns+40/24(high shrinking yarn) with 130/48 ITY. The data set was made at various NaOH concentrations and steam temperatures with time as a main variable. The physical properties examined were the tensile properties. The results obtained were the tensile properties. The results obtained were 1. For a proper extraction of Co-PET (13.5%)from the microfiber with wet curing, it takes more than 5 min. in 8 and 12% of NaOH solutions but it takes only 3 min. in 18% of NaOH solution at 120℃. 2. For a proper extraction of Co-PET (13.5%) from the microfiber with wet curing, it takes 3∼5 min. in 12 and 14% of NaOH solution and it takes less than 3 min. in 18% of NaOH solution at 130℃. 3. The increasing ratio of WT increased with increasing NaOH concentrations and the equilibrium point reached was 3 min. at 120℃. 4. The WT increasing ratio was greater in 14 and 18% NaOH solutions than in 8 and 12% of NaOH solutions at 130℃. 5. The RT ratio changes at 120℃ in 8 and 12% of NaOH solutions were indifferent from that at 130℃ in 12% of NaOH solution. However, the RT was apparently decreased with increasing NaOH concentration.
In this study, PET fabric was hydrolyzed with NaOH using the Tank m/c and Liquor-flow m/c to determine the alkali hydrolysis properties of PET fabrics. The results were as follows : The weft density and tensile strength of PET fabrics hydrolyzed with Liquor-flow m/c were higher than those hydrolyzed with Tank m/c in case of less than 10% of weight loss. However, above 10% of weight loss, reverse phenomenon was showed. K/S value of hydrolyzed PET with Liquor-flow m/c was higher than that with Tank m/c above 10% of weight loss. It was observed that the micropores of PET surface were collapsed due to physical force(abrasion and collision) during hydrolysis. Bending rigidity of hydrolyzed PET fabric was about 32% and 40% of bending rigidity of warp and weft direction of untreated fabric at 7% of weight loss, respectively. Above 7% of weight loss, decrease rate was decreased.
In this study, the dyeing properties of double knit fabric composed of PET/PTT bi-component fiber and quick dry fiber were examined with disperse dyes. In addition, the shrinkage characteristics were investigated during the dyeing process. The K/S values and shrinkage rate of PET/PTT bi-component fiber were higher than those of PET/co-PET bi-component fiber and quick dry fiber. In the dye bath, dye migration of exhausted on PET/PTT bi-component fiber to quick dry fiber was found at high dyeing temperature. It was not found that there was a significant difference in K/S value on dyeing temperature between 115℃ and 130℃. But the slight color difference of two sides of a double knit fabric was found.
