  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between academic personality types and academic achievement in an effort to seek teaching and learning strategies geared toward improving the academic achievement of students. The subjects in this study were 400 dental hygiene students who were randomly selected from three-year colleges in Gyeonggi Province. Their academic personality types and academic achievement were investigated, and the findings of the study were as follows: 1. As for the academic personality types of the subjects, the inquiry-oriented type was most dominant, and the ideal-oriented one was least common. 2. In regard to differences in academic personality types according to academic year, the inquiry-oriented type was most common in every academic year, and there were statistically significant differences(p<.05). 3. As to differences in academic personality types according to academic achievement, the best academic achievement was found in the norm-oriented type, and there were statistically significant differences(p<.05). 4. Concerning differences among the subjects in academic satisfaction according to academic personality types, there were no statistically significant differences(p>.05). When the above-mentioned findings of the study were pieced together, the academic achievement of the subjects varied with their academic personality types, and it's consequently necessary to make an effort to apply different teaching methods and learning methods according to their preferences. As there are individual variances among students in achievement goal, preferred learning method and experience though they study in the same space with different learning methods, the development of student guidance programs tailored to academic personality types seems necessary.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify differences in the personality type, diabetes-related distress, and diabetes self-management among older adults with type 2 diabetes. The data of 180 older adults was collected at S Senior Center from between August 14 and October 14, 2012. There were significant differences in self-management between individual personality types(p<.001). The self-management level was lower in the dominance personality type than in the steadiness and conscientiousness types. In particular, foot care subunit self-management was significantly lower in the dominance personality than in the other personality types(p<.001). Moreover, dominance personality was the most important factors influencing diabetes self-management negatively. Using hypoglycemic agent and drinking also influence on diabetes self-management negatively(modified R2=16%). Therefore, when we provide intervention to the older adults with type 2 diabetes, we should consider their personality type and check whether using hypoglycemic agent and drinking alcohol or not. Furthermore, we need to develop intervention program focus on the older adults with dominance personality type, using hypoglycemic agent and having drinking behavior.

  • A lot of studies have investigated the role of psychosocial and behavioral risk factors in the etiology and pathogenesis of cardiovascular disease. On the basis of prospective population studies that found a relationship between Type A behavior and cardiac morbidity and mortality independent of traditional risk factors, Type A behavior was declared a risk factor for the development of coronary heart disease. Additionally, recently proposed, a new personality construct, Type D personality have been reported to be associated with the increased risk for cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. In Korea, however, there were few studies about these issues. This article attempts to provide an overview of accumulating evidences on the Type A behavioral pattern and Type D personality related with cardiovascular disease to offer new directions for research.

The obtained results were as follows : 1. The prevalence of symptoms of temporomandibular disorders and mean scales of positive answers of contributing factors appeared to be higher in I type, S type, T type, P type than in E type, N type, F type, J type. 2. ISTP and ISFP among 16 types of personality seemed to have higher prevalence of symptoms and contributing factors of temporomandibular disorders than other types of personality. 3. Symptom of TMJ pain during mouth opening seemed to occur more frequently in I type, S type, F type, J type than in E type, N type, T type, P type. 4. Contributing factors including clenching and stressful state occurred significantly more frequently in I type than E type. Gum chewing habit occurred significantly more frequently in E type than in I type. 5. Unilateral chewing habit occurred significantly more frequently in J type than in P type. 6. Nervous or sensitive persons had significantly higher mean scales of positive answers of subjective symptoms than relaxed or general persons. 7. General persons had significantly lower mean scales of positive answers of contributing factors than nervous, sensitive and relaxed persons. In conclusion, these results show that there is the relationship between personality and temporomandibular disorders and patient education and counselling considering personality type may contribute to treating patients with temporomandibular disorders.

  • The method of being composed of small groups has a strong influence on mathematics and cooperative learning and therefore, the group classification should be made in a way of considering not only a learner's cognitive factor but also a affective factor in order to maximize the effects. In this research, we regarded personality as the important standard of the group classification for cooperative learning and tried to find out the influence on the mathematical attitude and achievement in mathematics by means of conducting mathematics and cooperative learning according to the personality types. In order to resolve this problem, we performed the cooperative learning of small group subject to the students at year 6 in an elementary school by making up a similar personality type of group and a different personality type of group through MMTIC examination, and also tried to find out any significant difference in terms of mathematical attitude and achievement in mathematics between two groups. The results obtained in this research are as follows; First, organizing groups in accordance with personality types did not affect on mathematical attitude. Although there were some positive opinions towards mathematics and cooperative learning, the both similar personality type of group and different personality type of group showed no significant difference in terms of mathematical attitude between two groups. Second, organizing groups in accordance with personality types showed positive effects on the achievement in mathematics. The similar personality type of group showed the better achievement in mathematics than the different personality type of group.

On the basis of the results from investigation, this study will identify the methods to effectively cope with stress and to take the national examination with more positive thinking for the students and faculty members in Dental Hygiene Department, who have to pass the difficult test, the national examination. The structured questionnaires were given to junior students in Dental Hygiene Department in three colleges, to identify the stress factors, methods to deal with stress and A/B personality types. For the stress factor by field, the M college showed significantly higher stress about curriculum and assignment than the C college. In the stress factor analysis by item, the lack of information on national examination in the test area, all items in learning environment, a quantity of assignment that doesn't help the preparation of national examination in the assignment area, and lack of information on employment in job area demonstrated the significant difference(p<0.05). For the methods of subjects to deal with stress, several subcategories of long-term and short-term adaptation had significance. In case of the methods to deal with stress by personality type, B type in the short-term adaptation method in M college and A type in the long-term adaptation method in C college were significantly higher(p<0.05). As for the correlation between the population sociological features and stress factors by personality type, health status had the high correlation with test in the test area. In other areas, the travel hours to school showed the significant correlation. The higher the records were, the longer the travel hours were and the better the health status was, the higher the long-term adaptation method scores were. Moreover, the personality of A type showed the higher scores in the long-term adaptation method than that of B type. The health status and personality type showed the significant correlation(p<0.05). In conclusion, it is required to prevent any situations b identify the personality type and stress reasons of the students in Dental Hygiene Department who will take the national examination soon.
