This presentation introduces anodizing science of typical valve metals of Al, Mg and Ti, based on the ionic transport through the andic oxide films in various electrolyte compositions. Depending on the electrolyte composition, metal ions and anions can migrate through the andic oxide film without its dielectric breakdown when point defects are present within the anodic oxide films under high applied electric field. On the other hand, if anodic oxide films are broken by local joule heating due to ionic migration, metal ions and anions can migrate through the broken sites and meet together to form new anodic films, known as plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) treatment. In this presentation, basics of conventional anodizing and PEO methods are introduced in detail, based on the ionic migration and movement mechanism through anodic oxide films by point defects and by local dielectric breakdown of anodic oxide films.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the corrosion behaviors of dental implant alloy after microsized surface modification in electrolytes containing Mn ion. Materials and Methods: $Mn-TiO_2$ coatings were prepared on the Ti-6Al-4V alloy for dental implants using a plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO) method carried out in electrolytes containing different concentrations of Mn, namely, 0%, 5%, and 20%. Potentiodynamic method was employed to examine the corrosion behaviors, and the alternatingcurrent (AC) impedance behaviors were examined in 0.9% NaCl solution at $36.5^{\circ}C{\pm}1.0^{\circ}C$ using a potentiostat and an electrochemical impedance spectroscope. The potentiodynamic test was performed with a scanning rate of $1.667mV\;s^{-1}$ from -1,500 to 2,000 mV. A frequency range of $10^{-1}$ to $10^5Hz$ was used for the electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) measurements. The amplitude of the AC signal was 10 mV, and 5 points per decade were used. The morphology and structure of the samples were examined using field-emission scanning electron microscopy and thin-film X-ray diffraction. The elemental analysis was performed using energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Result: The PEO-treated surface exhibited an irregular pore shape, and the pore size and number of the pores increased with an increase in the Mn concentration. For the PEO-treated surface, a higher corrosion current density ($I_{corr}$) and a lower corrosion potential ($E_{corr}$) was obtained as compared to that of the bulk surface. However, the current density in the passive regions ($I_{pass}$) was found to be more stable for the PEO-treated surface than that of the bulk surface. As the Mn concentration increased, the capacitance values of the outer porous layer and the barrier layer decreased, and the polarization resistance of the barrier layers increased. In the case of the Mn/Ca-P coatings, the corroded surface was found to be covered with corrosion products. Conclusion: It is confirmed that corrosion resistance and polarization resistance of PEO-treated alloy increased as Mn content increased, and PEO-treated surface showed lower current density in the passive region.
In this paper, we examined an effect by the binder in titanium dioxide film for dye sensitized solar cell. Binder(PEG and PEO) was added the quantity of 10- 40wt% to commercial $TiO_2$ (P25), Respectively. All of $TiO_2$ film was showed porous structure. but difference of film's porosity could not be confirm. Transmittances of $TiO_2$ film was decreased with the increase of binder's quantity, generally. In case of 20wt%, however, Transmittances of $TiO_2$ film was recoded the highest value. and it measured 1.77 of energy-conversion efficiency.

Employing statistical design of experiments, we have performed studies on the characterization of electrodes using $TiO_2$ and process variables in the fabrication process of nanocrystalline dye sensitized solar cell. Systematic experiment to identify the effects of process variables on cell's efficiency has based on broad-band absorption of light by tailor made organometallic dye molecules dispersed on a high surface of $TiO_2$. Employing statistical design of experiment on $TiO_2$ photoelectrode forming process, structural characterization of electrodes and process variable have been investigated. Through the statistical analysis we have found that the particle size of $TiO_2$ and the amount of PEG/PEO are significantly affecting on the cell efficiency. In addition, a significant amount of interaction exists between the particle size and the amount of PEG/PEO.
Titanium (IV) dioxide (TiO2) is one of the most attractive d-block transition metal functional oxides. Many applications of TiO2 such as dye-sensitized solar cells and photocatalyst have been widely investigated. To utilize solar energy efficiently, TiO2 should be well-aligned with a high surface area and promote the charge separation as well as electron transport. Herein, the TiO2 nanotubes were successfully fabricated by a template-directed method. The electrospun PEO(Polyethylene oxide, Molecular weight, 400k)fibers were used as a soft template for coating with titanium dioxide using an atomic layer deposition (ALD) technique. The deposition was conducted onto a template at 50$^{\circ}C$ by using titaniumisopropoxide [Ti(OCH(CH3)2)4; TTIP] as precursors of TiO2. While the as-deposited TiO2 layers onto PEO fibers were completely amorphous with atomic layer deposition, the TiO2 layers after calcination at 500$^{\circ}C$ for 1 h were properly converted into polycrystalline nanostructured hallow TiO2 nanotube. The TiO2 nanotube with high surface area can be easily handled and reclaimed for use in future applications related to solar cell fabrications.
In this study, new titanium alloys were prepared by adding elements such as tantalum (Ta), zirconium (Zr) and the like to complement the biological, chemical and mechanical properties of titanium alloys. The Ti-40Ta-xZr ternary alloy was formed on the basis of Ti-40Ta alloy with the contents of Zr in the contents of 0, 3, 7 and 15 wt. %. Plasma electrolytic oxidation (PEO), which combines high-voltage sparks and electrochemical oxidation, is a novel method to form ceramic coatings on light metals such as Ti and its alloys. These oxide film produced by the electrochemical surface treatment is a thick and uniform porous form. It is also composed of hydroxyapatite and calcium phosphate-based phases, so it has the characteristics of bone inorganic, non-toxic and very high bioactivity and biocompatibility. Ti-40Ta-xZr alloys were homogenized in an Ar atmosphere at $1050^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour and then quenched in ice water. The electrochemical oxide film was applied by using a power supply of 280 V for 3 minutes in 0.15 M calcium acetate monohydrate ($Ca(CH_3COO)_2{\cdot}H_2O$) and 0.02 M calcium glycerophosphate ($C_3H_7CaO_6P$) electrolyte. A small amount of 0.0075M zinc acetate and magnesium acetate were added to the electrolyte to enhance the bioactivity. The mechanical properties of the coated surface of Ti-40Ta-xZr alloys were evaluated by Vickers hardness, roughness test, and elastic modulus using nano-indentation, and the surface wettability was evaluated by measuring the contact angle of the coated surface. In addition, cell activation and differentiation were examined by cell culture of HEK 293 (Human embryonic kidney 293) cell proliferation. Surface properties of the alloys were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy(FE-SEM), EDS, and X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD).

A simple approach to prepare arrays of Au/TiO2 composite nanoparticles by using Au-loaded block copolymers as templates combined with a sol-gel process is described. The organic-inorganic hybrid films with closely packed inorganic nanodomains in organic matrix are produced by spin coating the mixtures of polystyrene-block-poly(ethylene oxide) (PS-b-PEO)/HAuCl4 solution and sol-gel precursor solution. After removal of the organic matrix with deep UV irradiation, arrays of Au/TiO2 composite nanoparticles with different compositions or particle sizes can be easily produced. Different photoluminescence (PL) emission spectra from an organic-inorganic hybrid film and arrays of Au/TiO2 composite nanoparticles indicate that TiO2 and Au components exist as separate state in the initial hybrid film and form composite nanoparticles after the removal of the block copolymer matrix.
The purpose of this study is to research and develop polypyrrole(PPy) positive for thin film rechargeable lithium battery. We investigated cyclic voltammetry, AC impedance response and charge/discharge cycling of PPy/SPE/Li cells as a function of temperature. The redox capacity of $PPy/CF_{3}SO_{3}$ film was the most large. The discharge capacity of PPy/SPE/Li cell with $PPy/CF_{3}SO_{3}$ film was higher than those of $PPy/ClO_{4}$ and $PPy/AsF_6$ films at all cycles. The energy density of PPy/SPE/Li cells during 1st cycle was 73, 90 and 101Wh/kg at $25^{\circ}C$, $45^{\circ}C$ and $60^{\circ}C$, respectively. The improvement of energy density is due to reduction of charge-transfer resistance associated doping-undoping process in PPy film with Increasing temperature. $PPy/CF_{3}SO_{3}$ film shows a good property on charge/discharge cycling in PEO-$LiClO_4$-PC-EC electrolyte.
