Particle number portable emission measurement system (PN-PEMS) is an instrument for measuring number concentration of automobile exhaust. The principle of some pre-existing commercial PN-PEMS is to charge particles and display the number of particles by measuring current. However, this method has some problems for measuring exhaust. In this study, to solve these issues, we have developed a single particle counting PN-PEMS based condensation particle counter (CPC). The PN-PEMS based CPC does not affect driving conditions and it is convenient for mobile because the instrument is small and light in structure. We evaluated counting efficiency of PN-PEMS based CPC by using electrostatic method (electrometer and Faraday cup).

Since 2007, the defect confirmation test for vehicles using PEMS has been enforced in USA. This test can measure emissions from on-street vehicles using a device mounted on a car. Europe has confirmed its plan for introducing this test from EURO6, 2013. Thus, the Korean government is also under pressure to adopt this method that reflects the real-world driving conditions using PEMS, considering the emission controls for domestic heavy-duty vehicles. To provide various utilizations of the PEM, this emission test has been developed in accordance with the type of driving road, DPF, ISG, and air conditioner. This research aims to provide the fundamental materials for implementing defect confirmation tests for commercial vehicles, which are appropriate for domestic emission control situations, after studying the defect confirmation test methods for heavy-duty vehicles using PEMS.

Fuel cells are regarded as a representative energy source expected to replace fossil fuels particularly used in internal combustion engines. One of the most important components is polymer electrolyte membranes (PEMs) acting as a proton conducting barrier to prevent fuel gas crossover. Since water channels act as proton pathways through PEMs, many researchers have been focused on the 'good phase-separation of hydrophilic moiety' which ensures high water retention under low humidity enough to keep the water channel for good proton conduction. Here, we summarized the strategies which have been adopted to synthesize sulfonated PEMs having high proton conductivities even under low humidified conditions, and hope this review will be helpful to design high performance hydrocarbon PEMs.

Studies are using a roll forming bar. A bar coating device available for a variety of coating conditions was developed. It is characterized by the bar forward and reverse rotation, fine-tune coating speed, and stripe coating. To determine the characteristics of the equipment, the coating tests under different coating conditions were carried out. As a result of the coating tests, the equipment was confirmed as one of strong candidates for the production tool of organic solar cells. The further production test of organic solar cells through stripe coating is in progress.

We have prepared polymer electrolyte membranes (PEMs) for DMFC from polymer mixture of poly(vinyl alcohol) and poly(vinyl alcohol-co-2-acrylamido-2-methylpropane sulfonic acid) (AP-2) changing the AP-2 content. The proton conductivity(${\Box}$) and methanol permeability(P) of the PEMs increase with increasing AP-2 content because the water content of the PEMs increases with increasing AP-2 content. The proton permselectivity of the PEMs, which is defined as ${\Box}={\Box}/P$, indicates higher values than that of $Nafion{(R)}$117.

There are rising demands for developing more efficient energy materials to stem the depletion of fossil fuels, which have prompted significant research efforts on proton exchange fuel cells (PEFCs) and lithium ion batteries (LIBs). To date, both PEFCs and LIBs are being widely developed to power small electronics, however, their utilization to medium-large sized electric power resources such as vehicle and stationary energy storage systems still appears distant. These technologies increasingly rely upon polymer electrolyte membranes (PEMs) that transport ions from the anode to the cathode to balance the flow of electrons in an external circuit, and therefore play a central role in determining the efficiency of the devices; as ion transport is a kinetic bottleneck compared to electrical conductivity, enormous efforts have been devoted to improving the transport properties of PEMs. In present study, we carried out an in-depth analysis of the morphology effects on transport properties of PEMs. How parameters such as self-assembled nanostructures, domain sizes, and domain orientations affect conductivities of PEMs will be presented.
An eco-friendly energy conversion device without the emission of pollutants has gained much attention due to the rapid use of fossil fuels inducing carbon dioxide emissions ever since the first industrial revolution in the 18th century. Polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs) that can produce water during the reaction without the emission of carbon dioxide are promising devices for automotive and residential applications. As a key component of PEMFCs, polymer electrolyte membranes (PEMs) need to have high proton conductivity and physicochemical stability during the operation. Currently, perfluorinated sulfonic acid-based PEMs (PFSA-PEMs) have been commercialized and utilized in PEMFC systems. Although the PFSA-PEMs are found to meet these criteria, there is an ongoing need to improve these further, to be useful in practical PEMFC operation. In addition, the well-known drawbacks of PFSA-PEMs including low glass transition temperature and high gas crossover need to be improved. Therefore, this review focused on recent trends in the development of high-performance PFSA-PEMs in three different ways. First, control of the side chain of PFSA copolymers can effectively improve the proton conductivity and thermal stability by increasing the ion exchange capacity and polymer crystallinity. Second, the development of composite-type PFSA-PEMs is an effective way to improve proton conductivity and physical stability by incorporating organic/inorganic additives. Finally, the incorporation of porous substrates is also a promising way to develop a thin pore-filling membrane showing low membrane resistance and outstanding durability.

Transparent conductive films (TCF) with excellent electrical properties and high mechanical flexibility have been widely studied because of their potential for application in optoelectronic devices such as light-emitting diodes, paper displays and organic solar cells. In this paper, we report on low-resistance and high-transparent TCF for flexible device applications. To fabricate a high-resolution roll imprinted TCF, the following steps were performed: the design and manufacture of an electroforming stamp mold, the fabrication of high-resolution roll imprinted on flexible film, the manufacture of Ag-nano paste which was filled into patterned film using a doctor blade process. Also, we was demonstrated with the successful application(ITO free organic photovoltaic) of the developed flexible TCF.

In order to improve the quality of air in urban areas, the emission regulations are being strengthened by the government. The on-road test of light-duty vehicles was started with PEMS because certification test mode does not sufficiently reflect on-road conditions. Therefore, The PEMS-based test was implemented from Sep. 2017 in Europe and Korea. However, this is lack of data on various on-road patterns in Korea. The purpose of the present study has analyzed the effect of speed per acceleration and acceleration on NOx emission on-road driving. The test route consisted of urban, rural, and motorway in Seoul. This study has been conducted by Euro-6 vehicles using on SCR system with PEMS. The on-road emission characteristics were evaluated by moving averaging windows (MAW) method. In results, RDE-NOx by severe driving pattern has been 1.4 times higher than soft driving pattern NIER Route 1.
