  • A new type CuN/Cu/CuN thin film electrode material with high adhesion to glass was developed by the dc reactive planar magnetron sputtering system for the PDP(Plasma Display Panel). The adhesive force of the CuxN thin film was in the range of 20∼40(N) under the conditions of the N$_2$ partial pressure of 15%, discharge current of 70mA, discharge voltage of 450v and substrate bias voltage of -100V. The adhesive force was depended on the N$_2$ partial Pressure, discharge current and substrate bias voltage.

  • A new type ac plasma display panels(PDPs) cells are designed and tested electrically and optically. One cells have the structure of sin discharge path shape and small electrode area. The other cells have the non-symmetric structure with a same electrode area. They show a higher luminous efficiency and a lower power consumption about 25% improvement than the conventional standard ac PDP cells.

  • In this paper, new address electrode having separated dual electrodes is suggested to reduce addressing time in ac PDP. It had been found that both the formative and jitter width of the suggested electrode are improved by $10{\sim}20$ % compared with the conventional one on IMID 04'. So we experiment other several kinds of the separated electrodes, and the change in discharge characteristics is analyzed by using a two-dimensional fluid simulation. The key feature of the suggested structure is that the distribution of Xe and Ne ion is controllable during the address periods without significant increases in the capacitive load of the address electrodes.

  • The plasma display panels with newly designed sustain electrode structure have been proposed and its characteristics hate been measured. One has a enlarged discharge path, and the other has a concentration point of electric potential. These structures have a high luminance and luminous efficiency.

  • The thin film metal electrode for PDP needs low resistivity and strong adhesion. But the sputtered copper film is weak, in the adhesion between copper and glass. In this paper, we investigated the characteristics of resistivity and adhesion about Cu thin film using Ion Beam Assisted DC Planar Magnetron Sputtering(DCPM) Device.

Effect of Scan-bias during Reset Period in a Negative Waveform

  • A negative waveform having inverted polarity of conventional waveform during reset and sustain periods was proposed to improve the driving characteristics. In order to control the negative wall-charge distribution, a positive bias on the scan electrode was applied during reset period. Compared to 0 V scan-bias condition, at 8 V scan-bias the formative time lag was improved about 23.95 % and the average time lag was improved about 14.91 %. All experiments were performed with the 42-inch PDP module in XGA resolution.

  • New ITO Electrode structure informed that the efficiency is increased by about 30% compared to the conventional type has been investigated during addressing period. As a result, the addressing time is decreased by about 20% compared to the conventional type. And wall charge distribution was analyzed quantitatively in three electrodes during addressing period.

  • In order to improve the luminous efficiency in ac PDP(Plasma Display Panel), we have suggested the new structures of sustain electrodes with waffle-type barrier ribs and the discharge current for a given pulse voltage has been decreased by eliminating the electrode area which has nothing to do with visible light emission area compared with conventional structure. As a result, the luminous efficiency was improved about 30% compared with the conventional structure.

  • To improve the luminance and luminous efficiency of a surface-discharge alternate current plasma display panel, we analyzed the sustain discharge characteristics as the voltage of the address electrode In the study. As the results, when the address voltage is a half of the sustain voltage in the sustain period, the luminance and luminance efficiency are the highest. The luminance efficiency increased about 16.2%~20.8% compared with the conventional type.
