Application of the New Panel Structure for High Luminous Efficiency in AC-PDPs

  • A new PDP cell structure called CSP(Charge Storage Pad) improves the luminous efficiency by 1.6 times and prevents cross talk between adjacent cells. The CSP, which is a conducting material, is inserted between the dielectric layer and the MgO film in the front plate. This CSP produces a longer time-averaged discharge path to get a high luminous efficiency and confines the discharge to prevent cross talk.

  • We have studied that the secondary electron emission characteristics of functional layers which have different kinds of MgO sub-micrometer size powder in AC-PDP. We used cathodoluminescence(CL) and gamma focused ion beam (${\gamma}$-FIB) system for measurement of secondary electron emission characteristics. Also we made 6 inch test panel which applied functional layers for evaluation of discharge characteristics.

  • 본 논문에서는 PDP 시스템에서의 새로운 EMI(전자파) 예측 방법을 제시한다. AC PDP 시스템을 정확하게 기술할 수 있는 새로운 AC PDP 셀 회로 모델을 개발하였다. 개발한 모델과 Hertzian 다이폴 안테나 모델을 결합하여 PDP 시스템에서 방출되는 EMI를 정량적으로 계산하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과는 테스트 패널을 이용한 실험을 통하여 검증되었다. AC PDP 시스템은 CISPR 13에 준거하여 반 무반향실에서 30㎒∼300㎒의 주파수 대역에서 측정하였다. 따라서 제시된 EMI 예측방법은 EMI와 관련한 PDP 시스템 설계에 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.

  • PDP구동회로는 160V 이상의 고전압을 유지하기 위한 스위칭 소자와 커패시터를 필요로 한다. 이러한 고전압용 소자의 사용은 PDP 구동회로의 가격을 상승시키고 전력 소모를 증가시키는 원인이 된다. 기존의 PDP 구동회로는 3개의 공급 전압원과 16개의 스위칭 소자로 구성 되어 있다. 그러나 본 논문에서는 2개의 공급 전압원과 12개의 스위칭 노자를 사용하고, 공급 전압도 기존의 공급 전압보다 낮은 공급 전압을 사용하는 구동회로를 제안한다. 컴퓨터시뮬레이션을 통하여 입력 주파수가 70kHz에서 100kHz일 때 45V 이상의 공급전압을 사용한다면 PDP 셀 구동을 위한 충분한 크기의 신호를 얻을 수 있음을 확인하였다.

  • In this experiment, we have investigated that the transported space charge between sub-pixels in AC-plasma cell discharge. The test pulse 30 V, $5{\mu}s$ was applied to the address electrodes of neighbor cells of discharge occurred cells. And we have measured the transported space charge between sub-pixels in accordance with the various last sustain pulse widths t(time gap between the rising edges of sustain and test pulses) of 0.2 to $3{\mu}s$. It was observed that the peak value of transported space charge has been shown to be 21.5pC at $1.0{\mu}s$. And the IR peak value have been occured after $0.51{\mu}s$ with respect to sustain voltage.

  • We have measured the excited Xe atoms density in the $1s_5$ metastable states by laser absorption spectroscopy in accordance with various barrier ribs. In this experiment, the average density of one cell in the panel with stripe barrier rib has been measured to be $1.8{\times}10^{12}cm^{-3}$. The panel with close type barrier rib has been measured to be $5.1{\times}10^{12}cm^{-3}$.

  • Influences of sustain voltage on wall charges and wall voltages are experimentally investigated in surface AC plasma display panels(AC-PDPs), in which electrode gap and width are $80\;{\mu}m$ and $270\;{\mu}m$, respectively. The filling gas is Ne-Xe gas mixture, and total pressures 300 Torr. Also it is found that the more amount of Xe mixing ratio makes the less wall charge and voltage for sustain voltage ranged from 140 V to 222 V. The response time has been delayed by adding a small amount of Xe to Ne in comparison with that without Xe. It is also found that the wall charge and voltage are reduced by adding a small amount of Xe to Ne in comparison with those without Xe.

  • We have measured the excited Xe atoms density in the $1s_5$ metastable states by laser absorption spectroscopy in counter discharged type AC-PDP. This experiment has shown the characteristic of the excited Xe atoms density which is relation to the visible light efficiency of PDP. The density of counter discharged AC-PDP have measured to be $9.47\;{\times}\;10^{13}\;cm{-3}$. The result has been shown to higher value than $1.45\;{\times}\;10^{13}\;cm^{-3}$ of conventional AC-PDP.

3전극 직류형 PDP의 전기적 특성과 펄스 메모리 구동 (Electrical characteristics and pulse memory operation of 3-electrode DC-PDP)

  • This paper presents the experimental results on the 3-electrode DC-PDP which has a common electrode to improve the PDP life cycle. The measured DC characteristic proves the effectiveness of common electrode absorbing about half of discharge currents. The waveforms for pulse memory operation of3-electrode PDP without crosstalk could also be determined from the I-V characteristics. The pulse memory drives of 8*8 cell array show the frequency response fo memory margin and the luminance efficiency of 3-electrode PDP are quite different from genrally known characteristics of 2-electrode DC-PDP.
