Experimental Development of the PCM Encoder for Telemetry (Telemetry PCM Encoder의 개발연구)

  • The time division multiplexing PCM encoder which is constructed for an airborne telemetering system is investigated. Selected by program switch, the PCM encoder has 0~64 words/framd($\pm$5V full scale) of allowable analog input channels, 0~30bits(5V$\pm$1V or 0V$\pm$1V dc) of discrete channels, 70 and 140K bits/sec of bit rate and 8~12bits/word of resolution. And filtered output PCM code is NRZ-L and Bi-S through the 5 pole Bessel LPF(f=100kHz), and the maximum accuracy of PCM encoder is $\pm$0.2% of its full scale.

  • In this paper, we describe a PCM encoder structure that can update the telemetry system parameters in real time. In the PCM encoder, an analog signal control unit for FPGA, flash memory, and sensor data acquisition was constructed. UART communication, analog signal control, flash memory control, and frame generation are possible through logic inside FPGA of PCM encoder. UART communication allows the PC to transmit parameter data to the PCM encoder, and flash memory is controlled to update the parameter of the telemetry system in real time and finally the frame is formed. Simulation and verification were performed to confirm whether the parameter data is updated in real time, and the proposed structure was used to construct a telemetry system with enhanced flexibility and convenience.

  • Telemetry system is a system that transmits status information data acquired from the aircraft to the ground station. PCM encoder needs memory to store channel information in order to generate a frame format using the acquired data. Generally, telemetry systems in large aircraft require much larger memory for the increased acquisition channel information due to the increased sensors and subsystems. However, they have difficulty to store all channel information in limited memory. In this paper, we suggests and implements an advanced PCM encoder that can efficiently manage memory by minimizing duplicated channel information. This novel PCM encoder allocates duplicated channel information to memory only once. And, sub commutation channels having different information for each minor frame are allocated to the memory by multiples of sub commutation channels. Finally, the suggested PCM encoder was proved by simulation that composed channels of various measurement cycles.

  • This paper presents and implements a simple programmable PCM encoder structure uisng the commutation method. In the telemetry system, information is required to assign each data to the channel in order to generate a frame format the data acpuired from the sensor. In this case, when the number of state information is large or the data type is various, there is a necessity to input a large amount of information to each channel. However, the more the number of channels and data, the more probability the error will occur. Therefore, in this paper, the channel information is created using the program. And PCM encoder was implemented to store channel information in ROM. The proposed PCM encoder architecture reduces the likelihood of errors. And it can improve the development speed. The validity of proposed structure is proved by simulation.

  • In this paper, we proposes real-time operating system based PCM encoder for telemetry system that must transmit frames within a set time. In the case of large aircraft, the complexity of the system is increasing because a lot of state information is measured from each sensor and peripheral device. In addition, as the amount measurement data increases, the role of PCM encoder to transmit frames within a set time is becoming important. Existing encoder is inflexible when changing specifications or implementing additional features. Therefore, a design is needed to supplement this. We propose a PCM encoder design applying uC/OS-II. In order to confirm the validity, a simulation was performed to measure the execution time of the task to confirm the performance.

  • The DSD(Direct Stream Digital) encoder, which is a standard for SACD(Super Audio Compact Disc) proposed by Sony and philips, use 1 bit representation with a sampling frequency of 2.8224 MHz (64 $\times$ 44.1 kHz). For multi-rate PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) input like as 48/96/192 kHz, a external sample-rate converter is necessary to the DSD encoder. This paper has been proposed a digital filter structure composed of sample-rate converter and interpolation filter for the DSD encoder with multi-rate (48/96/192 kHz) PCM input. without a external sample-rate converter.

  • There are three critical considerations in developing a PCM telemetry encoder to be installed in an artillery projectile. The first is the performance consideration, such as sampling rate and data transmission rate. The second is the size consideration due to the severely limited installation space in an artillery projectile and the last is the power consumption consideration due to limitations of the munition's power supply. To meet these three considerations, the best alternative is a one-chip solution. Using a commercially available TMS320F2812 DSP, we have implemented a 30-channel PCM telemetry encoder to process randomized data frames, composed of 16-channel analog data, 14-channel digital data and 2-frame synchronization channels per data frame at 10Mbps transmitting baud rate.

  • The object of this paper is to investigate a PCM telemetry system which is designed and constructed in individual modules for an airborne remote measurement system for the first time in Korea. The time division multiplexing PCM encoder has maximum allowable input channels 64 words/frame, 140kbits/sec bit rate. 200frames/sec and 10 bits/wod resolution. And the transmitting unit is designed for 2.2-2.3GHz(s-band) telemetry frequency band, PCM/FM modulation. The Study of airborne PCM telemtry system contribute to develop a device which can acquire various technical data of newly developing flying vehicles by remote measurement. The performance of the proposed system has been verified through a seguence of tests.

  • 로케트가 비행중 취득하는 각종 정보를 PCM / FM 방식으로 지상국으로 전송하기 위해서는 센서의 출력값을 원하는 범위의 값으로 맞추어주는 신호조절기, Analog 신호를 Digital Code로 변환 시켜주는 PCM 부 호기 및 PCM 부호기 출력을 변조시키는 송신기 등이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 과학관측 로케트에 탑재할 PCM 부호기를 설계 제작하였고 실제 비행 시험을 통하여 만족할 만 한 결과를 얻었다.
