  • In this study, a process management system is designed that can automatically control the heat treating atmosphere, and a managment software is developed to monitor and control continously the heat treating process using a n interface device. Especially, a communication protocol is developed to control and monitor atmosphere condition, temperature, surrounding gas, and time. The developed interface device, called COMPORT SELECTOR is to send and receive information from PID controllers and PLC via RS-232C communication. This system will reduce manufacturing cost and cycle time, and improve the effectiveness of working process and quality.

  • In this paper, we propose a self instrument learning tool using a PC-based software and an external electronic keyboard instrument with USB interface to help primary school students to learn playing piano more easily and effectively. The PC-based learning software and the external electronic keyboard instrument interact through the USB interface. This tool has a help window to provide information how to play and support interesting game mode for exercise. The external electronic keyboard instrument receives a selective information through the USB interface and display it on LEDs and 7-segment for novices to easily know the relation between the notes and the positions in the keyboard. The external keyboard instrument can detect false inputs, display them on LEDs and on the information window. We implemented a self instrument learning system and our feasibility tests showed its validity of the self learning tool to improve the learning efficiency.

Parallelization of Raster GIS Operations Using PC Clusters (PC 클러스터를 이용한 래스터 GIS 연산의 병렬화)

  • With the increasing demand of processing massive geographic data, conventional GISs based on the single processor architecture appear to be problematic. Especially, performing complex GIS operations on the massive geographic data is very time consuming and even impossible. This is due to the processor speed development does not keep up with the data volume to be processed. In the field of GIS, this PC clustering is one of the emerging technology for handling massive geographic data effectively. In this study, a MPI(Message Passing Interface)-based parallel processing approach was conducted to implement the existing raster GIS operations that typically requires massive geographic data sets in order to improve the processing capabilities and performance. Specially for this research, four types of raster CIS operations that Tomlin(1990) has introduced for systematic analysis of raster GIS operation. A data decomposition method was designed and implemented for selected raster GIS operations.

  • In this paper, we can confirm the result of intuitive interface software implementation for operating a digital PA(Public Address) controller and the performance of audio mixer control part. Developed user interface software provides the maintaining management and control function of digital hybrid mixer. This SW loaded in the integrated control server controls an sound status of the audio mixer TAD-168M and checks the device status for Public Address integrated system. Also, this SW enables the integrated control and the continuous upgrade. Developed SW is connected to TAD-168M with Ethernet and linked to PC Lan port and the 4-port switch, located in the backside of TAD-168M, by LAN cable for communicating with operating PC. Integrated control including system management, audio control and uplink broadcasting control for broadcasting system will be made available with this novel developed system.

  • This paper presents the development of a monitoring and control system for a vehicle cluster using a model-based design technique. For MBD(model-based design), MATLAB GUI(Graphic User Interface), M programs, simulink, state flow, and tool boxes are used to monitor a number of data such as warning, interrupts, and etc. connected to a real vehicle cluster. As a monitoring tool, a PC(Personal Computer) station interworks with the real vehicle cluster through the interface commands of tool boxes. Thus, unlike existing text-based designs, the MBD based vehicle cluster system provides very easy algorithm updates and addition, since it offers a number of blocks and state flow programs for each functional actions. Furthermore, the proposed MBD technique reduces the required time and cost for the development and modification of a vehicle cluster, because of verification and validation of the cluster algorithm on the monitor through a PC.

  • In this study, a new multimedia data converter is proposed. Also the PC interfacing met hod using the parallel port of is suggested. The image compression/decompression is based on the JPEG algorithm, which is widely used for an effective compression in the image processing industry. The suggested interfacing method is based on the IEEE1284 and IEEE1284.3 protocol, which is a standard in the PC's parallel port interface.

  • In this paper are described design of hardware and GUI(Graphical User Interface) for a PC based Weighting System. Conventional Weighting System is adapted microprocessor system for measuring and controlling. This system should have big memory for the management of measured data and is difficult to operate. For such reason a new Weighting System based on PC is proposed. In this contribution is handled these problems.

  • This study reviews usability of PC communication softwares with different dialogue types of user interface. Usability test was conducted to evaluate usability of 3 PC communition softwares which are currently utilized in Korea. Learnability was adopted as an index of usability evaluation, so learning time, testing time and scores were measured as dependent variables. It is suggested that softwares with mixing dialogue type(menu, icon, command) which were implemented in window systems environment were not superior to that with command dialogue type.

  • Digital convergence 및 ubiquitous 환경이 보편화되면서 computer system이 대부분의 전자 제품에 삽입되고 있다. 제품의 인터페이스는 더욱 복잡해지고 있으며, 사용 방법 또한 어려워지고 있는 상황이다. 이 중 Auto PC는 대표적인 예로, 차량 운전 환경에서 네비게이션, 음악, 동영상, DMB, PC 등의 기능을 지원하는 복합 제품이다. 이러한 제품의 사용자 인터페이스 설계를 위해서는 제품을 사용하면서 일어나는 행동들과 이들의 흐름을 이해할 수 있는 시나리오 설계에 관한 연구가 필수적이다. 인간공학 및 HCI 분야에서는 사용자 인터페이스를 설계하고 평가할 수 있는 방법론 및 도구들이 많이 소개되고 있다. 또한 이러한 방법 및 도구들을 상황에 맞게 선택하고 종합하고자 하는 연구 역시 다양하게 이루어지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 인간 중심 설계(human centered design) 방법론 중 대표적인 시나리오 기반 설계(SBD: Scenario-Based Design)과 직무분석(Task Analysis)을 이용하여 Auto PC의 인터페이스 설계에 적용해보았다. 시나리오 기반 설계와 직무분석 두 방법론을 통합할 수 있는 프로세스를 적용하였고, 그 결과 각 방법론의 단점을 서로 보완할 수 있었다. 추후 prototype을 완성하고 사용성 평가 및 만족도 조사를 통하여 설계된 인터페이스를 검증하는 연구가 진행될 예정이다.

The Development of High Resolution Film Scanner Using DSP (DSP를 이용한 고해상도 스캐너 개발)

  • A scanner is an output device that scans documents, photographs, films etc, and convert them to digital data. Especially, a film scanner is used for scanning negative/positive films. In this paper, we design step motor control part, image sensor part, and Aか converter part which are components of the scanner and use DSP for fast signal processing. We also design the interface circuits using EPLD between these peripherals and DSP. The PC interface circuits between scanner and PC are designed by using parallel port to control and transfer the scanned data from scanner to PC. For 35mm film, we design hardwares which obtain high resolution more than 9 million pixels (horizontal resolution is 3835 and vertical resolution is 2592).
