  • Aldo Van Eyck and Herman Hertzberger explained 'In-between space' as an intermediate space between opposite elements such as whole and parts, inside and outside, open and close, central and decentral. From this idea, the meaning of 'in-between space' has developed and applied to works of Bernard Tschumi and Sou Fujimoto. In this study, the meaning of 'in-between space' was compared and analyzed based on two architects' works to reveal the design approach in terms of 'in-between space' Final Wooden House, N House, and Serpentine Gallery Pavilion among Sou Fujimoto's work were selected and Le Fresnoy, Lerner Student Center, and Acropolis Museum among Bernard Tschumi's work were selected to analyze. To understand their design approach, their works were compared and analyzed in architectural attitude, tools, construction style and the approach, concept, theme, relation, direction of in-between space. As a result, Sou Fujimoto uses 'in-between space' as a nebulous approach as intermediate space between opposite elements. For Bernard Tschumi, 'in-between space' is also an intermediate space to emphasize and make a tension between opposite elements. It is a method of solving the contradiction condition between old city environment and new architecture.

  • This paper aims to discussion the characteristics of location and spatial organization on Hongneung and Yureung(royal tomb) in Namyangju through the interpretation of traditional oriental philosophy including Feng-Shui theory. To do this, we studied in two ways; analysis of the present conditions and photographing research materials about the form of physical structure and review of historical document. The result of analysis in sight of the location and spatial structure was good matched. Main finding of this paper are as follows: The location and landscape structure was characterized by the harmony with natural following traditional thinking and the Korean view of nature, while maintaining the dignity of the King. The spatial organization were placed in a straight line following the hierarchy of metaphysics by order of Neungchim(Tombs Vicinity) - Changmyungdeung(Stone Lantern) - Chungjakak(Pavilion) - Hongsalmun(Gate for Heavenly Gods) and was based on the Confucianism value, the natural contour and inner value. Through this study, we find the principles made it possibles to re-evaluate nature in modem society and provided us with new ways to conserve nature with the help of environmental theory.

And it has constructed continuously for two centuries by many owners in the different generations, It needs a special research method ; which are consist of a) comprehension of background information from documents and oral instructed materials, b) pursuit of design process through the building survey, and c) theoretical interpretation about 'collectivism'. From the results of this research, it is revealed that the architectural purpose of this house was constructing 'a great manor'. At first phase, it had been a single ordinary house, at second, it had expanded to a complex including many housing clusters, and finally became to expand its dwelling territory into whole village. Its expansion was progressed by the four collecting phases of which were building, building cluster, group of clusters, and topological setting. Main design elements operated in each of collecting phases ; they were partial element of , exterior spaces of , a linear building of , and a pavilion of . The last two elements were also powerful datum.

The results of this study are summarized as follows. First, bridge and pond including Goksudang and Seojae mentioned in related literatures were found around Goksudang. In the spatial composition, the area was divided into three using the stream from the valley and pond including buildings was built at each area. Each area was connected through Honggyo, Yueuigyo, and Ilsamgyo bridges and intentionally lengthened movement was considered as the space production technique to see the valley, and upper and lower pond. Second, 11 building relics, pond and fence were confirmed around Nakseojae. The transformative process of these relics could be divided into three periods. The 1st of these period was when Yun Seon Do lived there and Mumindang, pond and waterway were arranged as straight axis. Third, Dongcheonseoksil consisted of building relics (1) for preparing for and drinking tea and pavilion (building relics(2)) and pond, and these were static with nature and used as contemplative space for viewing.

  • The purpose of this study is to reconstruct the wooden frame structure of Buddhist temple, Kumdang in Youngamsaji which assumed to be built in the 9th century of Unified Silla Dynasty. The remaining site of Kumdang in Youngamsaji is investigated thoroughly with a particular attention to bay size and column distribution. The five ancient Buddhist temples which were built in the same period also have the same frame type as Youngamsaji Kumdang. These five ancient Buddhist temples and Kumdang in Youngamsaji are meticulously investigated in terms of their bay sizes and measuring modules. The framework schema is devised as a conceptual tool to conjecture wooden frame structures of Buddhist temple. A theoretical differentiation between frame type and frame structure is attempted to formulated a wooden frame structure as a stepping-stone for the reconstruction of traditional wooden building. The wooden frame structure of 9C Kumdang in Youngamsaji mainly follows the oldest Korean wooden pavilion, Muryangsujeon in Busuk temple, with a hip and gable roof. The wooden frame structure of 9C Kumdang in Youngamsaji is reconstructed through 3D computer modeling to such an extent that every wooden components of the structure can be 3D printed. The reconstruction also takes reference from the Cai-Fen system in Yingzao Fashi.

  • Mies van der Rohe is still known as the architect whose influence is the largest among modem architects. As his work is typical of modern architecture, the architecture of Mies shows an interest in materials and techniques, even though It established the new architectural world by glass and iron, and only transparency is emphasized with glass. So it is blame for the loss of peculiarity a result of thinking In the way of sachlich with expression and structure of material and hierarchical relation. Vincent Scully has insist on that an appearance of modem architecture be occur not by simply a technical request of a technician but by reflection of the times and times' spirit. In this means, the works of Mies is the trial to express the new times' spirit that the new times order and an understanding of material properties about glass with new material of modern. For that, this study tries to consider that Mies'work is the new trial through reflection of material to express about the bstraction beyond the limit of sachlich expression, on the point of expresslonal characteristics of material shown in plan of the Barcelona Pavilion and skyscraper and on the basis of the theory of Gottfried Semper and Karl Boetticher that architectural surface Is a medium which can define space and also express mass.

  • This research aims to examine the characteristics of tomb sites including tomb mound and attached buildings and also to find out the principles reflected in the traditional oriental Feng-Shui location and spatial composition of Junkyung and Youngkyung tomb at Samcheok. The results of this study are as follows. These tombs harmonize with each other in the cosmic dual forces because Junkyung tomb is men's sex symbol and tiger to lie on his belly and Youngkyung tomb is women's sex symbol in geographical feature. Spatial structure in these tomb sites were placed in a reflected line following the hierarchy of metaphysics by standing high Geumchunkyo(Bridge)-Hongsalmun(Gate)-Jegak(Pavilion)-Bongbun(Tomb mound). Axis structure of these tombs is irregular bent-axis type from Geumchunkyo to Bongbun, specially in case of Youngkyung tomb it is getting more refractive. These tombs are divided into and characterized by three zones. Firstly the space for living people constitutes from Geumchunkyo to Hongsalmun, secondly the semi-sacred space constitutes from Hongsalmun to Jegak, and lastly the space for the dead constitutes from the back of Jegak to Bongbun. - type Jegak instead of T type Jegak generally used at Chosun Dynasty was installed because of claypan stretched out in front of Junkyung tomb and Bongbun of Youngkyung tomb located at a ravine between two mountain ranges.

  • The hand recognition technique is widely used to the economic input method for user interfacing environment. However, the most of the techniques have the restricted with recognize that only a fixed background and a regular pattern. This restriction character has brought a difficult problem to apply at variable application class and to process restriction environment. In this paper, we propose a virtual input system that extracting about hand region information that is not restricted by background image and also that can be followed the location information. This research could be used some system demanded by input of a person such as control system at airport and pavilion and economic virtual input system in class of industrial computer and various kinds control-system.
