Flexible cantilever pipes conveying fluids with high velocity are analysed for their dynamic response and stability behaviour. The Young's modulus and mass per unit length of the pipe material have a stochastic distribution. The stochastic fields, that model the fluctuations of Young's modulus and mass density are characterized through their respective means, variances and autocorrelation functions or their equivalent power spectral density functions. The stochastic non self-adjoint partial differential equation is solved for the moments of characteristic values, by treating the point fluctuations to be stochastic perturbations. The second-order statistics of vibration frequencies and mode shapes are obtained. The critical flow velocity is first evaluated using the averaged eigenvalue equation. Through the eigenvalue equation, the statistics of vibration frequencies are transformed to yield critical flow velocity statistics. Expressions for the bounds of eigenvalues are obtained, which in turn yield the corresponding bounds for critical flow velocities.

Nanoimprint lithography(NIL) is becoming next generation lithography of significant interest due to its low cost and a potential patterning resolution of 10nm or less. Success of the NIL relies on the adequate conditions of pressure, temperature and time. To have the adequate conditions for NIL, one has to understand the polymer flowing behavior during the imprinting process. In this paper, an analytical approach of polymer flow in thermal NIL was performed based on the squeeze flow with partial slip boundary conditions. Velocity profiles and pressure distributions of the polymer flow were obtained and imprinting forces and residual thickness were predicted with the consideration of the slip velocity between the polymer and the mold/substrate. The results show that the consideration of the slip is very important for investigating the polymer flow in Thermal NIL.

The present investigation deals, Dufour and heat source effects on radiative MHD slip flow of a viscous fluid in a parallel porous plate channel in presence of chemical reaction. The non-linear coupled partial differential equations are solved by using two term perturbation technique subject to physically appropriate boundary conditions. The numerical values of the fluid velocity, temperature and concentration are displayed graphically whereas those of shear stress, rate of heat transfer and rate of mass transfer at the plate are presented in tabular form for various values of pertinent flow parameters. By increasing the slip parameter at the cold wall the velocity increases whereas the effect is totally reversed in the case of shear stress at the cold wall. It is observed that the effect of Dufour and heat source parameters decreases the velocity and temperature profiles.

Suppression of abnormal flow phenomena in the Francis hydro turbine is very important to improve the turbine performance. Especially, as cavitation and cavitation surge makes serious problems when the turbine is operated in the range of partial flow rate, optimum method of suppressing the abnormal flow characteristics is required necessarily. Moreover, as swirl flow in the draft tube of the Francis turbine decreases pressure at the inlet of the draft tube, suppression of the swirl flow can be an useful method of suppressing the occurrence of cavitation. In order to clarifying the possibility of suppressing the swirl flow by J-Groove in the draft tube, a series of CFD analysis has been conducted in the range of partial load, designed condition and excessive flow rate of a Francis turbine. A kind of J-Groove is designed and applied to the draft tube of the Francis hydro turbine model. The pressure contours, circumferential velocity vectors and vortex core regions in the draft tube are compared by the conditions with or without J-Groove. In addition, a group of data about the velocity in the draft is presented to show the influence of J-Groove.

Turbulent flow and heat transfer characteristics around staggered tube banks were studied using the 3-D Navier-Stokes equations and energy equation governing a steady incompressible flow, which were reformulated in a non-orthogonal coordinate system with cartesian velocity components and discretized by the finite volume method with a non-staggered variable arrangement. The predicted turbulent kinetic energy using RNG $k-{\varepsilon}$ model was lower than that of standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model but showed same result for mean flow field quantities. The prediction of the skin friction coefficient using RNG $k-{\varepsilon}$ model showed better trend with experimental data than standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model result. The inclined flow showed higher velocity and skin friction coefficient than transverse flow because of extra strain rate ($\frac{{\partial}w}{{\partial}y}$). Also, this was why the inclined flow showed higher local heat transfer coefficient than the transverse flow.

Based on the nonlocal strain gradient (NSG) theory and considering the influence of moment of inertia, the governing equations of motion of porous functionally graded (FG) nanoplates with four edges clamped are established; The Galerkin method is applied to eliminate the spatial variables of the partial differential equation, and the partial differential governing equation is transformed into an ordinary differential equation with time variables. By satisfying the boundary conditions and solving the characteristic equation, the dispersion relations of the porous FG strain gradient nanoplates with four edges fixed are obtained. It is found that when the wave number is very small, the influences of nonlocal parameters and strain gradient parameters on the dispersion relation is very small. However, when the wave number is large, it has a great influence on the group velocity and phase velocity. The nonlocal parameter represents the effect of stiffness softening, and the strain gradient parameter represents the effect of stiffness strengthening. In addition, we also study the influence of power law index parameter and porosity on guided wave propagation.

Existing conventional model for analysis of shallow water flow just assumed the internal boundary condition as free-slip, which resulted in the wrong prediction about the velocity, vorticity, water level, shear stress distribution, and time variation of drag and lift force around a structure. In this study, a finite element model that can predict flow characteristics around the structure accurately was developed and internal boundary conditions were generalized as partial slip condition using slip length concept. Laminar flow characteristics behind circular cylinder were analyzed by varying the internal boundary conditions. The simulation results of (1) time variations of longitudinal and transverse velocities, and vorticity; (2) wake length; (3) vortex shedding phenomena by slip length; (4) and mass conservation showed that the vortex shedding had never observed and laminar flow like creeping motion was occurred under free-slip condition. Assignment of partial slip condition changed the velocity distribution on the cylinder surface and influenced the magnitude of the shear stress and the occurrence of vorticity so that the period of vortex shedding was reduced compared with the case of no slip condition. The maximum mass conservation error occurred in the case of no slip condition, which had the value of 0.73%, and there was 0.21 % reduction in the maximum mass conservation error by changing the internal boundary condition from no slip to partial slip condition.
The organic Rankine cycle has been widely used to convert the renewable energy such as the solar energy, the geothermal energy, or the waste energy etc., to the electric power. Some previous studies focused to find what kind of refrigerant would be a best working fluid for the organic Rankine cycle. In this study, R245fa was chosen to the working fluid, and the cycle analysis was conducted for the output power of 30kW or less. In addition, properties (temperature, pressure, entropy, and enthalpy etc.) of the working fluid on the cycle were predicted when the turbine output power was controlled by adjusting the mass flowrate. The configuration of the turbine was a radial-type and the supersonic nozzles were applied as the stator. So, the turbine was operated in partial admission. The turbine efficiency and the optimum velocity ratio were considered in the cycle analysis for the low partial admission rate. The computed results show that the system efficiency is affected by the partial admission rate more than the temperature of the evaporator.

DPF(Diesel Particulate Filter)s have been used to reduce the most of PM(particulate matters) from the exhaust emissions of diesel engine vehicles. Metal foam is one of promising materials for the DPFs due to its cost effectiveness, good thermal conductivity and high mechanical strength. It can be fabricated with various pore sizes and struct thickness and coated with catalytic wash-coats with low cost. In order to design metal foam filter and analyze the flow phenomena, pressure drop and filtration experiment are carried out. Partial DPF which has PM reduction efficiency of more than 50 % is designed in this paper. Also, CFD analysis are performed for different configurations of clean filters in terms of pressure drop, uniformity index, and velocity magnitude at face of filter. Filter thickness and the gap between front and rear filters are optimized and recommended for manufacturing purpose.
An experimental study is conducted to investigate flow characteristics on a small axial-type turbine which is applied as the rotating part of air tools. It operates in a partial admission due to consumption restriction of the high pressure air. In this operating condition, it is necessary to understand flow characteristics for obtaining the high specific output power. Tested turbine consists of two stages and the mean radius of flow passage is less than 10mm. A 6 bar pressure air is used to operate the turbine. The experimental results show that flow angles depend on the measuring location along the circumferential direction, but its discrepancy is alleviated along the axial direction. Absolute flow velocities show three times difference according to the measuring location at the exit of the first rotor due to the partial admission, but they show similar value at the exit of the second rotor by the velocity diffusion. From the measured flow angles and velocities, a ratio of output power obtained by the first and second rotor is estimated. It shows that the output power obtained by the second rotor is about $11\%$ to that by the first rotor at 60,000 RPM. It is effective therefore to improve the first rotor for increasing the turbine output power.
