Low Complexity PTS Scheme for Reducing PAPR in OFDM Systems (직교 주파수 분할 다중화 시스템에서 최대 전력 대 평균전력의 비 감소를 위한 저 복잡도 부분 전송 수열 방법)

  • In this paper, the PTS scheme generate alternative orthogonal frequency frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signal sequences by multiplying all the time domain samples with phase rotating vectors to find an OFDM signal having the minimum peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR). However, it needs an exhaustive search which causes large computational complexity. In order to solve this problem, we propose two efficient methods based on the crest factor. The first proposed scheme is to select time domain sample with large magnitude to calculate PAPR, and the next scheme is to calculate the absolute value of real and imaginary part of the sample at each subblock. The simulation results show that the proposed schemes achieve better PAPR reduction performance than existing PTS schemes.

  • 본 논문은 MMoF 시스템의 광학채널을 비선형 채널로 가정하고, 단일 반송파 전송 기법을 사용한 경우와 다중 반송파 전송 기법을 사용한 경우의 성능을 모의실험을 통하여 비교하였다. 이때 다중 반송파를 사용하는 MMoF-OFDM 시스템의 성능이 단일반송파를 이용하는 MMoF 시스템에 비해 우수함을 확인할 수 있었다. 또한, 다중 반송파를 사용하는 경우 PAPR을 개선하기 위하여 PTS 기법을 사용하면 PAPR을 낮출 수는 있었지만 시스템의 성능엔 큰 차이가 없었다.

  • 본 논문에서는 selective mapping(SLM)과 partial transmit sequence(PTS)기법을 결합하여 othogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) 신호들의 peak-to-average power ratio(PAPR)감소 성능을 향상 시키며 SLM과 PTS기법의 결합으로 인한 증가된 복잡성을 inverse fast Fourier transform(IFFT)의 어떤 중간 단계 이후 위상 시퀀스를 곱함으로써 낮추었다. 이와 같이 새로운 알고리듬을 제안하고 제안한 기법과 기존의 SLM과 PTS 기법의 PAPR 감소 성능을 simulation을 통하여 비교, 분석하였다.

  • In this paper, we propose a novel OFDM-based system structure to reduce PAPR (Peak-to-Average Power Ratio) and improve BER for OFDM system in which BER enhancement is obtainable based on WH (Walsh-Hadamard) transform to transmit concurrently each data symbol on all subcarriers so as to take advantage of frequency diversity and remedy the effect of channel's frequency-selectivity. By doing so, we also attain a low PAPR. Moreover, DGT (Data Grouping Technique) that is independent on the side information is also applied to further reduce PAPR. The simulation programs have been also performed to verify the validity of the proposed system.

  • Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing or OFDM is a form of multi-carrier modulation technique. High spectral efficiency, robustness to channel fading, immunity to impulse interference, uniform average spectral density, capability of handling very strong echoes and less on linear distortion are among the favorite properties of OFDM. Even though there are many advantages of OFDM, t has two main drawbacks: high Peak to Average Power Ratio (PAPR) and frequency of offset. In this paper, the issue of PAPR in OFDM is discussed. A new algorithm is proposed to reduce PAPR by selecting the input sequences property using a lookup table.

Reducing PAPR of SC-FDMA Signals through Simple Amplitude Predistortion

  • A novel peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) reduction method is proposed for single-carrier frequency-division multiple access (SC-FDMA) signals. The proposed method deliberately distorts the amplitude values of a few of the complex modulated symbols that cause peaks beyond a predetermined threshold in the samples of the output signal. The method then marks the location indices of the distorted symbols by using a pilot block at the transmitter without transmitting side information. At the receiver, the method is then able to recover the distorted amplitude values through the marked location indices. Computer simulation results show that when compared to conventional SC-FDMA signals, the proposed scheme can effectively reduce the PAPR of SC-FDMA signals with asymptotically consistent bit error rate (BER) performance.

Adaptive SLM and Side Information Insertion Method (적응 SLM 방식과 부가정보 삽입기법)

  • OFDM is effective for the high speed data transmission. However, the nonlinear distortion is a serious problem because of the high PAPR due to many subcarriers. The conventional SLM selects the OFDM signal with the lowest PAPR. In this method, OFDM data can be correctly recovered only if the side information about the phase sequence is transmitted to receiver. This paper proposes a new method of side information insertion into the conventional SLM and reduces the computational complexity by adaptive method. Performances are compared in case that three kinds of phase sequences are used for phase rotation factor. The adaptive SLM method has the same PAPR reduction as the conventional SLM method. The required BER can be guaranteed by the proposed method. When subcarrier number N=32, computational complexity is reduced to 48 %, 72 % and 51 % for the branch number U=4, 8 and 16, respectively.

  • This paper proposes a new method that reduces the complexity of the combined system, which consists of the selective mapping(SLM) and the partial transmit sequence(PTS) in the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(OFDM). In order to reduce the Peak-to-Average Power Ratio(PAPR), many techniques have been developed such as SLM and PTS. and their combined systems. However the method that simply combines PTS and SLM to improve the effectiveness of a system increases the complexity of calculation. The scheme employed in this research suggests a system that combines PTS and SLM reducing the complexity via the N($N=2^n$)-point inverse fast Fourier transforms(IFFT), which uses the decimation in time domain not only to improve PAPR but also to reduce the amount of calculation. The proposed method reduces the complexity by multiplying a phase sequence and a subblock index to the data sequences in the middle of IFFT, which yields an optimal sequence with minimal PAPR. The superiority of the proposed method is demonstrated by simulation results and analysis.

Selected Mapping without Side Information at the Receiver (수신기에서 부가정보가 필요 없는 Selected Mapping 기법)

  • Selected mapping (SLM) is an effective scheme to reduce the peak to average power ratio (PAPR) of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system. For data recovery, the receiver needs to know the side information (SI) on the scrambling sequence selected by the transmitter. In this paper, a new SLM scheme is proposed, which can reduce implementation complexity substantially by allowing the receiver to recover the data without SI. In the proposed SLM method, the concept of virtual channel corresponding to the convolution of the multipath channel and the inverse discrete fourier transform (IDFT) of the scrambling sequence is assumed. The receiver can recover the data without SI by using the virtual channel estimated with pilot signals. It is shown by simulation that the proposed SLM has PAPR reduction and BER performances similar to the previous SLM schemes while it can reduce implementation complexity substantially.

Clipping Scheme and Noise Analysis for the PAPR Reduction of OFDM-FDMA Communication System (OFDM-FDMA통신 시스템에서 PAPR 저감을 위한 Clipping 기법과 잡음 분석)

  • Clipping is a simple and convenient PAPR reduction method to prevent the high-speed OFDM communication system from the nonlinear distortion. However, it inherently produces clip noise so that BER performance can be degraded. Clipping noise can be divided into in-band and out-of-band clipping noise. In this paper, we study the clipping effect on the forward link of the OFDM-FDMA system. BER performance of OFDM-FDMA system using clipping method is theoretically analyzed. We also investigate the BER performance of the clipped OFDM-FDMA signal through the HPA. From the simulation results it can be quantified how much the BER performance of OFDM-FDMA system is degraded by the clipping method. From the study results, we can choose the appropriate IBO value and CR(clip ratio) to get the desired BER performance.
