  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the indoor temperature distribution of a room controlled by a personal and portable cooler. As an energy saving strategy, the personal air-conditioning or task conditioning system was developed and installed in office buildings in the 90 s. Many research results regarding the personal air-conditioning (PAC) system were focused on thermal comfort, localized ventilation efficiency and energy savings. However, the conventional PACs were only developed for application in office buildings. In this study, as a type of PAC, a portable cooler was analyzed in terms of indoor temperature distribution changes with the passage of time. The measurement was performed in a bedroom in an apartment house. The results showed that indoor temperature was controlled at about $24^{\circ}C$ around the human body. However, the ambient zone up to 1.5 m away from the the human body stayed at about $27.5^{\circ}C$.

  • Unlike a medical doctor, a dentist performs all the tasks necessary for diagnosis and treatment of a disease all by himself. To increase the diagnostic accuracy, dentists need an efficient working environment providing much more integrated information of clinical data and radiographic image. In this paper, we propose an integrated environment for the dental hospital. It provides paperless and filmless hospital environment by integrating seamlessly three major operations for the dental hospital including patient record generation and management, clinical image acquisition and analysis, and treatment planning and simulation. This system also allows clinicians to provide more predictable dental care for the patients by supporting instant access to all the clinical data and quantitative data analysis.

  • 'Supplement 23:DICOM SR' announced on April 2000 made possible co-relations between the clinical reports and human body parts by standardizing the exchange of clinical information. DICOM SR uses its own coding schemes and values to represent information, which convey hierarchically structured content items. This paper analyzes radiology reports produced in HIS(Hospital Information System) and categorizes content structures into three parts such as, finding, conclusion, and recommendation, and implements a system which can be used by clinicians. Digital X-ray images and their reports have been managed separately. Since the report made by DICOM SR can refer to images, the integrated information of reports and images is possible.

  • In recent years, two major streams in medical information systems are:1) system integration among OCS(Order Communication System), EMR(Electronic Medical Record), PACS(Picture Archiving and Communication System), and ERP(Enterprise Resource Planning) and 2) system integration through medical collaboration between East and West medical service providers. One of the characteristics which differentiate the Korean medical industry from the western medical industry is the East-West medical collaboration. In many respects there are many differences between East and West medical treatment. Although East and West medical treatment have developed from different medical philosophies and standards, we assume that the better medical care can be provided by integrating their medical procedures effectively. The two possible approaches to the integration of East and West medical information systems are suggested in this paper:One is loosely coupled model and the other is tightly coupled model. EMR improves the quality of medical record which reflects the quality of clinical practice. It provides more efficient and convenient way of input, retrieval, storage, communication and management of medical data. We abstracted the standard medical procedures from the two medical procedures performed in Daejeon Oriental Hospital and Hehwa Clinic at Daejeon University and also abstracted database schema by analyzing the characteristics of information needed in East-West medical collaboration. Our EMR is composed of two types of data:one is structured data and the other is unstructured data, which are formalized by SOAP(Subjective, Objective, Assessment, Plan) format. Currently the integrated system is implemented and operated successfully for six months.

  • A digital watermarking technique used as a protection and certifying mechanism of copyrighted creations including music, still images, and videos in terms of lading any loss in data, reproduction and pursuit. This study suggests using a selected geometric invariant point through the whole processing procedure based on the invariant point so that it will be robust in a geometric transformation attack. The introduced algorithm here is based on a watershed splitting method in order to make medical images strong against RST transformation and other processing. This algorithm also proved that is has robustness against not only RST attack, but also JPEG compression attack and filtering attack.

  • A detailed geometrical model of a Krško reactor core was developed using a Monte Carlo neutron transport code MCNP. The main goal of developing an MCNP core model is for it to be used in future research focused on ex-core calculations. A script called McCord was developed to generate MCNP input for an arbitrary fuel cycle configuration from the diffusion based core design package CORD-2, taking advantage of already available material and temperature data obtained in the nuclear core design process. The core model was used to calculate 3D power density profile inside the core. The applicability of the calculated power density distributions was tested by comparison to the CORD-2 calculations, which is regularly used for the nuclear core design calculation verification of the Krško core. For the hot zero power and hot full power states differences between MCNP and CORD-2 in the radial power density profile were <3%. When studying axial power density profiles the differences in axial offset were less than 2.3% for hot full power condition. To further confirm the applicability of the developed model, the measurements with in-core neutron detectors were compared to the calculations, where differences of 5% were observed.

  • Knotting of a pulmonary artery catheter (PAC) is a rare, but well-known complication of pulmonary artery (PA) catheterization. We report a case of a double-knotted PAC with a large loop in a patient with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) undergoing liver transplantation, which has been rarely reported in the literature. A PAC was advanced under pressure wave form guidance. PAC insertion was repeatedly attempted and the PAC was inserted 80 cm deep even though PAC should be normally inserted 45 to 55 cm deep. However, since no wave change was observed, we began deflating and pulling the balloon. At the 30-cm mark, the PAC could no longer be pulled. Fluoroscopy confirmed knotting of the PAC after surgery (The loop-formed PAC was shown in right internal jugular vein); thus, it was removed. For safe PA catheterization, deep insertion or repeated attempts should be avoided when the catheter cannot be easily inserted into the pulmonary artery. If possible, the insertion of PACs can be performed more safely by monitoring the movement of the catheter under fluoroscopy or transesophageal echocardiography.

  • Objective: Studies confirming the lumber spine kinematics of direct or indirect segmental mobility under the application of joint mobilization, which induces passive force on the spine, are insufficient. Therefore, this study aims to obtain the underlying clinical data by identifying direct or indirect segmental mobility produced by Maitland's PA mobilization technique. Design: Randomized controlled trial design. Methods: Thirty subjects with no back pain participated in this study. X-ray testing equipment (SIG-40-525, Ecoray Inc., Korea) was used to verify the segmented movement of their lumbar. Joint mobilization was performed by physiotherapists with more than 10 years of experience in prescription therapy, and radiography was performed once without PA joint mobilization and once without the mobilization for comparing the lumbar vertebrae before and after the mobilization. The radiographs taken were analyzed using the picture archiving and communication system (PACS) program to measure the spinal displacement, intervertebral height, intervertebral angle, and lumbar lordosis angle. Results: Significant differences were observed in the lumbar displacement, intervertebral angle, and lumbar lordosis angle in all lumbar vertebrae before and after the mobilization. The intervertebral height indicated significant differences in all ventral vertebrae and only in L3-L4 and L4-L5 in dorsal vertebrae. Conclusions: This study suggests that the segmental mobility produced through indirect approaches plays an important role in inducing therapeutic effects in patients with back pain.

  • The growth properties of $Y_2$O$_3$ and CeO$_2$ films for the buffer layers on Ni tapes were studied comparatively. The water vapor larger than 2$\times$10$^{-5}$ Torr and the substrate temperature higher than $700^{\circ}C$ were required for the proper growth of $Y_2$O$_3$ films, while the upper limits of the water vapor and the lower limit of the substrate temperatures for the proper growth of CeO$_2$ were 1$\times$10$^{-5}$ Torr and 50$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. These imply that the windows of the growth conditions of CeO$_2$ are wider than those of $Y_2$O$_3$. However the formation of cracks in CeO$_2$ films were its disadvantage, while $Y_2$O$_3$ showed no cracks. PACS. No 85.25.K, 81.15.A.
