Effects of surface properties and solution ph on the pollutants removal of K-PAC (K-PAC의 오염물질 제거에 대한 용액의 pH와 표면 특성의 효과)

  • A study of physical properties and their application using K-powdered activated carbon system followed powdered carbon dispersion was carried out at laboratory. scale. Two types of K-powdered activated carbon for the dispersion have been used in this study to investigate the catalytic removal efficiency of pollutants from the wastewater. From the surface properties obtained for carbon samples treated with aqueous solutions containing potassium salts, main investigations were subjected to isotherm shape, SEM, EDX and surface functional groups. K-powdered activated carbons were dispersed to wastewater with pH variation to investigate the removal efficiency for the color, COD, T-N and T-P. From these removal results of the piggery waste using K-powdered activated carbon, satisfactory removal performance in the region of pH 6~8 was achieved. The excellent effects for the dispersion of the K-powdered activated carbon were proved by the above mentioned properties of the material for adsorption and trapping of organics, and catalytic effects.

  • The passive treatment was required a large area for the treatment of acid mine drainage (AMD), and pollutants were discharged with mine drainage by the increased flow rate in summer. This study was performed to improve the turbidity and to precipitate the pollutants quickly using coagulants and flocculants in AMD of abandoned mine sites that were difficult to build the passive treatment system. The coagulant PAC (Poly aluminium chloride) and flocculant PAM (Polyacrylamide) were selected to improve turbidity in W mine waters. We also tested the particle size analysis, ICP-OES and/or SEM-EDS for water and sludge samples.

  • We performed DInSAR (Differential Interferometric SAR) and SBAS (Small BAseline Subset) analysis using spaceborne SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) in order to detect a surface subsidence in Taebaek area, Kangwon, which are suitable to the monitoring of broad and inaccessible areas. During the period from October 2006 to June 2010, we acquired twenty-three ALOS PALSAR data sets (path/frame=425/730) for this study. The ninety-six differential interferograms with a perpendicular baseline less than 1100 m were constructed by ROI_PAC, then the mean velocity map of surface displacement was derived from SBAS analysis. As a result, it was confirmed that the ground displacement occurred about 4 cm/yr at Seokgong-Jangseong and Kyungdong mines and 2 cm/yr at Saehan-Eoryong-Jungdong and Hwangji mines in Taebaek area, Kangwon. It seems that the subsidence in study area is closely related to mining activities because the most of subsiding areas are well matched with mining areas. The subsidence at Kyungdong mine shows continuous and fast velocity in about $2{\times}2$ km area. Therefore the further analysis and the effort to prevent disaster are required in this area.

Simultaneous Determination of Heavy Metals in Cosmetic Products by Ion Chromatography (이온 크로마토그래피를 이용한 화장품 중 중금속 동시분석)

  • No matter how small amount of heavy metals it may be cause skin allergies through percutaneous adsorption when existing in cosmetic products as impurities. In order to develop a highly sensitive method for simultaneous determination of $Pb^{2+},\;Fe^{2+},\;Cu^{2+},\;Ni^{2+},\;Zn^{2+},\;Co^{2+},\;Cd^{2+},\;and\;Mn^{2+}$ in coloring agents and cosmetic products with rapidity and accuracy, we carried out the determination on ion chromatography. All of these metals are well separated through a bifunctional ion-exchange column(IonPac CS5A) and detected by post-column reaction and spectrophotometric detection. The calibration graphs are linear($r^2>0.999$) in the range $0.1{\sim}1000{\mu}g/mL$. Detection limits for 200 ${\mu}L$ of sample solution are at the level of ${\mu}g/L$, which is sufficient for judging whether the product is safe or not. The relative standard deviations(RSDs) of the retention time and the peak area are less than 0.21 and 1.24%, respectively. The recovery rates are $97{\sim}104%$. The new method was applied to analyze the amount of heavy metals which were contained in 22 cosmetic products and 11 coloring agents.

  • Erwinia pyrifoliae is a Gram-negative bacterium causing black shoot blight in apple and Asian pear trees. E. pyrifoliae strain EpK1/15 was isolated in 2014 from an apple twig from the Pocheon, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea. In this study, we report the draft genome sequence of E. pyrifoliae EpK1/15 using PacBio RS II platform. The draft genome is comprised of a circular chromosome with 4,027,225 bp and 53.4% G + C content and a plasmid with 48,456 bp and 50.3% G + C content. The draft genome includes 3,798 protein-coding genes, 22 rRNA genes, 77 tRNA genes, 13 non-coding RNA genes, and 231 pseudo genes.

A study of improvement of river water quality(T-P) in pilot-scale operation (파일롯 규모의 운영에 따른 하천수질(T-P) 개선에 관한 연구)

  • Pilot-scale coagulation and sedimentation processes were operated to investigate the T-P (Total phosphorus) removal efficiency. A multiple regression model was also derived to predict the water quality improvement effect with river water characteristics. The inflow rates for the pilot-scale facility were 157-576 m3/day, and the coagulant doses were in the range of 13.7-58.5 mg/L (average 38.9 mg/L) for PAC (Poly alum chloride) and 16.5-62.1 mg/L (average 36.0 mg/L) for alum. The results found that the influent BOD (Biochemical oxygen demand) and T-P concentrations were 4.9 mg/L and 0.115 mg/L, and the removal efficiencies were 52.7% and 59.4%, respectively. T-P removal efficiencies on wet weather days were higher by 10% than dry weather days because influent solids influenced T-P's coagulation process. The pH of river water was 6.9-7.8, and the average pH was 7.3. Although the pH variation was not significant, the trend showed that the treatment efficiency of T-P and PO4-P removal increased. Thus, the pH range considered in this study seems to be appropriate for the coagulation process, which is essential for phosphorous removal. The T-P removal efficiencies were 19.6-93.3% (average 59.2%) for PAC and 16.4-98.5%(average 55.9%) for alum; thus, both coagulants showed similar results. Furthermore, the average coagulant doses were similar at 42.4 mg/L for PAC and 41.3 mg/L for alum. When the T-P concentration of the effluent was compared by the [Al]/[P] ratio, the phosphorus concentration of the treated water decreased with an increasing [Al]/[P] ratio, and the lowest T-P concentration range appeared at the [Al]/[P] ratio of 10-30. A seasonal multiple regression analysis equations were derived from the relationships between 10 independent and dependent variables (T-P concentration of effluent). This study could help lake water quality maintenance, reduce eutrophication, and improve direction settings for urban planning, especially plans related to developing waterfront cities.

  • Comamonas sp. NLF-7-7 was isolated from biofilter of wastewater treatment plant. The whole-genome sequence of Comamonas sp. NLF-7-7 was analyzed using the PacBio RS II and Illumina HiSeqXten platform. The genome comprises a 3,333,437 bp chromosome with a G + C content of 68.04%, 3,197 total genes, 9 rRNA genes, and 49 tRNA genes. This genome contained pollutants degradation and floc forming genes such as sulfur oxidization pathway (SoxY, SoxZ, SoxA, and SoxB) and floc forming pathway (EpsG, EpsE, EpsF, EpsG, EpsL, and glycosyltransferase), respectively. The Comamonas sp. NLF-7-7 can be used to the purification of wastewater.

  • 통신기술과 의료장비의 발달은 환자에 대한 의료혜택의 기회를 확대하고, 최상의 의료서비스를 제공하려는 병원들에 있어서 전산 시스템은 빼놓을 수 없는 병원내 주요 기반시설로서 등장하게 되었다. 멀티미디어 기술과 정보통신의 발달은 의료분야의 정보화 및 자동화 기술 발전에 커다란 영향을 주어 의료 영상 및 각종 의료정보를 고속의 네트워킹 올 통해 전송할 수 있는 PACS(Picture Archiving and Communications System)의 개발을 가능하게 하였다. 본 논문에서는 무선네트워크의 발달과 PDA(Personal Digital Assistants)의 보편화에 따라 PDA를 이용하여 HIS(Hospital Information System)/RIS(Radiology Information System)/PACS의 자료를 검색 및 갱신할 수 있도록 설계하고, 현재 병원의 데이터베이스와 PDA의 연동이 가능하도록 병원관리 에이전트를 분석 및 설계하였다.

The Lossless Compression Algorithm for Medical Images (의료영상에 적합한 무손실 압축 알고리즘)

  • 본 논문에서는 일반 X-ray 필름을 사용하는 기존 아날로그 의료 영상 진단 체계의 문제점들을 해결하기 위해 연구 개발된 포괄적인 영상관리 전송 시스템(PACS)에서의 효율 적인 영상 전송과 저장을 위해 병원에서 매일 다량으로 발생하는 의료 영상들 중 CT와 MR영상을 대상으로 하여 새로운 무손실 영상 압축 기법인 CRAC 압축 알고리즘을 설계하 였다. CRAC 압축 알고리즘에서는 CT와 MR 영상의 파일구조를 분석하여 런랭스 코딩에 적합하도록 데이터를 재배열하는 전처리 작업을 설계하였으며, 이를 CT와 MR 영상에 최적 화 시킨 개선된 런랭스 알고리즘으로 1차 압축시켜 그 결과를 산술 부호화 알고리즘과 결합 함으로써 압축효율을 향상시켰다. 이러한 CRAC 압축 알고리즘은 무손실 압축 기법으로, 의 료 영상을 압축한 수 손실 없이 원 영상을 그대로 복원할 수 있기 때문에 PACS에서의 CT, MR 영상의 판독을 위한 단기 저장시에 적합한 압축 알고리즘으로 CT와 MR 영상의 무손 실 압축에 대해 새로운 전처리 방법을 제시하였고, 기존 무손실 압축 방법들과 비교 분석한 결과 압축률이 2.1%∼5.9% 정도 향상되었다.

Simultaneous determination of low molecular weight amines and quaternary ammonium ions by IC/ESI-MS

  • A new method for the simultaneous determination of low molecular weight amines and quaternary ammonium ions based on the separation by IC with a suppressor and the detection by MS with ESI has been developed. The method has been applied to the analysis of a mixture containing tetramethylammonium ion, tetraethylammonium ion, tetrapropylammonium ion, triethanolamine, trimethylamine and triethylamine. The constituents were separated by isocratic elution using an IonPac CS17 column, a cation-exchange column, and detected by conductivity and mass spectrometry. The newly developed method for the six components demonstrated that the repeatability in terms of relative standard deviation for three measurements was in the range of 0.1-0.5 %. The detection limits were between 0.2 and $0.9{\mu}g/mL$ by the IC/ESI-MS.
