Crystal mean size and shape change of calcium carbonate crystal was investigated by the temperature change and addition of PAA solution in the soda process. At low temperature($30^{\circ}C$, $60^{\circ}C$), calcite particles were made by. But at high temperature($80^{\circ}C$), aragonite particles were made by. At $30^{\circ}C$ and $80^{\circ}C$, Crystal shape were not changed by adding PAA solution. At moderate temperature($60^{\circ}C$), aragonite was obtained by adding PAA aqueous solution. Crystal shape was changed by adding PAA molecules. The higher concentration of PAA solution is, the more aragonite particles were observed. Incase of calcite and aragonite, mean size of calcium carbonate crystals were increased by higher molecule weight and higher concentration of PAA solution. But in the shape change region, the molecule weight of PAA was the main parameter of increasing mean crystal size.
Nanocomposite films were prepared by blending poly(amic acid)(PAA), poly(o-hydroxyamide)( PHA) and organically modified montmorillonite (OMMT) that has a layered structure. XRD, SEM and TEM were used to study the morphology of PAA/PHA nanocomposites, and DMA, TGA, UTM, LOI and PCFC techniques were used to characterize the mechanical and thermal properties, and flame retardancy of the nanocomposites. TEM images revealed that OMMT layers were well dispersed in the PAA/PHA matrix and showed exfoliation and intercalation behavior. The addition of 3 wt% OMMT to the PAA/PHA blend increased the initial modulus of PAA/ PHA blend to 3.68 GPa that was ca. 48% higher than that of the control PAA/PHA blend. Above 4 wt%, however, both the initial modulus and the tensile strength were found to decrease, which might be due to the aggregation of OMMT in PAA/PHA matrix. When the OMMT content was below 3 wt%, the thermal stability and flame retardancy of the PAA/PHA nanocomposites increased with increasing OMMT content.
In this paper we address the MBR-safe property of Piecewise Aggregation Approximation(PAA), and propose an of efficient subsequence matching method based on the MBR-safe PAA. A transformation is said to be MBR-safe if a low-dimensional MBR to which a high- dimensional MBR is transformed by the transformation contains every individual low-dimensional sequence to which a high-dimensional sequence is transformed. Using an MBR-safe transformation we can reduce the number of lower-dimensional transformations required in similar sequence matching, since it transforms a high-dimensional MBR itself to a low-dimensional MBR directly. Furthermore, PAA is known as an excellent lower-dimensional transformation single its computation is very simple, and its performance is superior to other transformations. Thus, to integrate these advantages of PAA and MBR-safeness, we first formally confirm the MBR-safe property of PAA, and then improve subsequence matching performance using the MBR-safe PAA. Contributions of the paper can be summarized as follows. First, we propose a PAA-based MBR-safe transformation, called mbrPAA, and formally prove the MBR-safeness of mbrPAA. Second, we propose an mbrPAA-based subsequence matching method, and formally prove its correctness of the proposed method. Third, we present the notion of entry reuse property, and by using the property, we propose an efficient method of constructing high-dimensional MBRs in subsequence matching. Fourth, we show the superiority of mbrPAA through extensive experiments. Experimental results show that, compared with the previous approach, our mbrPAA is 24.2 times faster in the low-dimensional MBR construction and improves subsequence matching performance by up to 65.9%.
Phenylacetic acid (PAA) is produced by many bacteria as an antifungal agent and also appears to be an environmentally toxic chemical. The object of this study was to detect PAA using Pseudomonas putida harboring a reporter plasmid that has a PAA-inducible promoter fused to a green fluorescent protein (GFP) gene. Pseudomonas putida KT2440 was used to construct a green fluorescent protein-based reporter fusion using the paaA promoter region to detect the presence of PAA. The reporter strain exhibited a high level of gfp expression in minimal medium containing PAA; however, the level of GFP expression diminished when glucose was added to the medium, whereas other carbon sources, such as succinate and pyruvate, showed no catabolic repression. Interestingly, overexpression of a paaF gene encoding PAA-CoA ligase minimized catabolic repression. The reporter strain could also successfully detect PAA produced by other PAA-producing bacteria. This GFP-based bioreporter provides a useful tool for detecting bacteria producing PAA.
Epoxy resin based upon the N,N'-diglycidylaniline which is widely used in optic, electronic and composite material. We modified this epoxy resin with poly(amic acid) (PAA) that is a precursor of polyimide. To improve the mechanical property we controlled PAA content and imidization ratio. PI-modified epoxy blends were prepared for the formation of IPN structure. The possible reaction in the epoxy resin/PAA blends were investigated by FT-IR and inherent viscosity techniques. Thermal properties are measured by TGA, DSC, and TMA. Mechanical properties are measured by UTM and impact test machine. Morphology is investigated by SEM. Thermal stability improved with increasing the content of PAA in blends. As the content of PAA increases in blend, the glass transition temperature and thermal expansion coefficient decreases. Increasing impact strengths in J/m in the range of 920∼2412 were observed in blends. The PAA segment may act as a toughening agent in the epoxy networks, thus contributing the impact strength improvement of the blends.
The palladium nanoparticles were self-assembled to make Pd-POSS using POSS-$NH_3{^+}$ (polyhedral oligomeric silsesquioxane) as a crosslinker. Graphene oxide (GO) was produced by the reaction of graphite under a strong acid and oxidizer and poly(acrylic acid) (PAA) was covalently grafted on the surface of graphene to make PAA-grafted graphene through the radical polymerization of acrylic acid and GO along with a reduction process under $NaBH_4$. The nanocomposites of Pd-POSS and PAA-grafted graphene were fabricated via ionic interactions between positively charged Pd-POSS and negatively charged PAA-grafted graphene. Pd-POSS nanoparticles were attached to the surface of PAA-grafted graphene through ionic interactions. The thermal stability of Pd-POSS/PAA-grafted graphene was higher than that of PAA and PAA-grafted graphene. The composition, structure, surface morphology, and thermal stability of the Pd-POSS/PAA-grafted graphene were studied by FE-SEM, AFM, TEM, FTIR, and TGA.
The objective of this study was to determine the effects of phenylacetic acid (PAA) on embryo production in anther and microspore culture of herbaceous peony (Paeonia lactiflora Pall.). The anthers of herbaceous peony were cultured on MS medium with 0 to 100 mg/L PAA according to two-step culture method. The ruptured anthers were transferred onto embryo formation medium without growth regulators. The MS medium with 2 mg/L PAA was effective in enhancing of direct embryogenesis and producing of normal embryo with two cotyledons from the cultured anthers. However, the increase of PAA concentration more than 5 mg/L PAA inhibited the embryo formation and promoted to callus formation from the anthers. The PAA affects significantly on the division of microspore and embryo formation in shed pollen culture and the best result was obtained from a medium supplement with 2 mg/L PAA. The preculture of anther for 10 days on solid medium with 2 mg/L PAA was effective for embryo formation from shed microspore of herbaceous peony.
The properties of hydrogen bonding between poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline)[PEOx] and poly(acrylic acid)[PAA] were investigated. PEOx and PAA formed stable complex and precipitated due to hydrogen bonding between hydrogen of PAA and oxygen of PEOx in acidic condition(below pH 4.3). Optimum reaction ratio of PEOx and PAA was determined as mass ratio of 1:1.5 for applications in aqueous two phase system. The mixtures of the polymers formed aqueous two phase system with dextran solution after the breakage of hydrogen bondings. This properties can be used for the recovery of valuable products.

Superhydrophilic thin film consisted of positively charged poly (allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) and negatively charged poly (acrylic acid) (PAA) was fabricated by a layer-by-layer (LBL) self-assembly. Glutaraldehyde (GA) was used in order to increase an adhesion hardness by amine-aldehyde reaction. The surface morphology, thickness, transmittance, water contact angle and adhesion hardness of PAH/PAA thin film with or without GA were measured. The adhesion hardness of PAH/PAA thin film with GA deposition increased over 2 times although the film thickness of PAH/GA/PAA decreased than that of PAH/PAA thin film. The increase of adhesion hardness by amine-aldehyde reaction between PAH and GA was measured by fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. Fabricated PAH/PAA and PAH/GA/PAA thin films showed water contact angel under $5^{\circ}$ and high transmittance over 91.3% at 550 nm.
Hydroxyapatite(HAp) powders were synthesized by wet-precipitation precess using $Ca(NO_3)_2{\cdot}4H_2O$ and $(NH_4)_2HPO_4$ and homogeneous composites of four type were prepared by mixing of synthetic HAp and Polyacrylic Acid(PAA). Ca/P ratio of synthetic HAps was determined using ICP analysis and the thermal property of HAp/PAA composites were investigated by TGA. Good crystalline HAp was obtained at pH 11 and $60{\circ}C$. The ratio of Ca/P in synthetic HAps was quantified in a range of 1.35~1.49, from which Ca-deficient HAp was obtained. The specific surface area of HAp/PAA composite increased with increasing the content of PAA and the weight loss of HAp/PAA composite at $800{\circ}C$ decreased in a range of 3.5~9.6% due to the degradation of PAA binder. From FT-IR analysis of HAp/PAA composite, it was confirmed that the ionic bond between ion of HAp and carboxyl group of PAA was formed.
