Modelling Duration In Text-to-Speech Systems

  • The development of the durational component of prosody modelling was overviewed and discussed in text-to-speech conversion of spoken English and Korean, showing the strengths and weaknesses of each approach. The possibility of integrating linguistic feature effects into the duration modelling of TTS systems was also investigated. This paper claims that current approaches to language timing synthesis still require an understanding of how segmental duration is affected by context. Three modelling approaches were discussed: sequential rule systems, Classification and Regression Tree (CART) models and Sums-of-Products (SoP) models. The CART and SoP models show good performance results in predicting segment duration in English, while it is not the case in the SoP modelling of spoken Korean.

  • It studied modelling about employing analog PSS in domestic 500MW grade standard thermoelectric power plant in this paper. Modeling and parameters were verified by simulation of PSS response characteristics measured in AVR step examination and using power plant system model parameters decided by generator characteristics test. Through this PSS modelling research, contributed in domestic electrical power system small signal stability as that do modelling to be possible exact analysis of power system.

규칙기반 모델링에 의한 하계망 일반화에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Cartographic Generalization of Stream Networks by Rule-based Modelling)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 규칙기반 모델링을 구성하여 하계망을 일반화하고자 하였다. 그 동안 지도 일반화에 대한 연구는 제한된 지도요소를 대상으로 선형사상의 형태변형을 위한 알고리즘 개발과 평가에 집중되었다. 규칙 기반 모델링은 지도제작 원리와 공간현상의 분포패턴을 분석하여, 그 결과를 일반화 과정에 적용하기 때문에 기존의 일반화 알고리즘 개선에 도움이 된다. 규칙기반 모델링은 다양한 지도요소들을 대상으로 일반화를 적용할 수 있고, 디지털 환경하에서 다축척 지도제작에 효과적이다. 본 연구에서 개발된 하계망 규칙기반 모델링은 일반화 규칙, 중심선 추출 그리고 선형사상 일반화 알고리즘으로 구성된다. 일반화를 적용하기 앞서, 하계망은 논리적 오류를 최소화하기 위해 저수지와의 연결관계를 분석하였다. 모델을 적용한 결과, 108개의 실폭 하천 중 17개 하천이 중심선으로 추출되었다. 하천의 총길이는 1:25,000에서 17%, 1:50,000에서는 29%로 감소하였다. 선형사상 일반화를 위해 개발된 Simoo 알고리즘은 Douglas-Peucker 알고리즘과 비교하였다. Doug]as-Peucker 알고리즘은 자료점 간격과 편각이 커지게 되어 선의 형태가 거칠어지는 반면, Simoo 알고리즘에서 선형사상은 축척이 감소함에 따라 보다 완만해진다.

펄스플라즈마 반응기의 모델링에 의한 해석 (Analysis of pulsed Plasma Reactor using Modelling Method)

  • The pulsed plasma wire-plate reactor was analyzed on the basis of experiment, EMTP simulation and modelling method. Though the reactor has a non-linear impedance characteristics, we demonstrate that the reactor impedance can be approximately analyzed with the measured initial capacitance and average resistive component of flat zone. Using this modelling method, the influence of the reactor capacitance on the impedance matching between pulse generator and reactor can be investigated. From this, we found that the energy of 95% was delivered form pulse generator to reactor at the ratio of $C_r/C_p\cong 0.3,\; where\; C_p\; is\; pulse\; generator\; capacitance, C_r$ is reactor capacitance.

편마암-물 반응계에서 지하수의 지화학적 진화 및 이차광물 생성에 관한 반응경로 모델링 (Reaction Path Modelling on Geochemical Evolution of Groundwater and Formation of Secondary Minerals in Water-Gneiss Reaction System)

  • The reaction path of water-gneiss in 200m borehole at the Soorichi site of Yugu Myeon, Chungnam was simulated by the EQ3NR/EQ6 program. Mineral composition of borehole core and fracture-filling minerals, and chemical composition of groundwater was published by authors. In this study, chemical evolution of groundwater and formation of secondary minerals in water-gneiss system was modelled on the basis of published results. The surface water was used as a starting solution for reaction. Input parameters for modelling such as mineral assemblage and their volume percent, chemical composition of mineral phases, water/rock ratio reactive surface area, dissolution rates of mineral phases were determined by experimental measurement and model fit. EQ6 modelling of the reaction path in water-gneiss system has been carried out by a flow-centered flow through open system which can be considered as a suitable option for fracture flow of groundwater. The modelling results show that reaction time of 133 years is required to reach equilibrium state in water-gneiss system, and evolution of present groundwater will continue to pH 9.45 and higher na ion concentration. The secondary minerals formed from equeous phase are kaolinite, smectite, saponite, muscovite, mesolite, celadonite, microcline and calcite with uincreasing time. Modeling results are comparatively well fitted to pH and chemical composition of borehole groudwater, secondary minerals identified and tritium age of groundwater. The EQ6 modelling results are dependent on reliability of input parameters: water-rock ratio, effective reaction surface area and dissolution rates of mineral phases, which are difficult parameters to be measured.

Modelling Stem Diameter Variability in Pinus caribaea (Morelet) Plantations in South West Nigeria

  • Stem diameter variability is an essential inventory result that provides useful information in forest management decisions. Little has been done to explore the modelling potentials of standard deviation (SDD) and coefficient of variation (CVD) of diameter at breast height (dbh). This study, therefore, was aimed at developing and testing models for predicting SDD and CVD in stands of Pinus caribaea Morelet (pine) in south west Nigeria. Sixty temporary sample plots of size $20m{\times}20m$, ranging between 15 and 37 years were sampled, covering the entire range of pine in south west Nigeria. The dbh (cm), total and merchantable heights (m), number of stems and age of trees were measured within each plot. Basal area ($m^2$), site index (m), relative spacing and percentile positions of dbh at $24^{th}$, $63^{rd}$, $76^{th}$ and $93^{rd}$ (i.e. $P_{24}$, $P_{63}$, $P_{76}$ and $P_{93}$) were computed from measured variables for each plot. Linear mixed model (LMM) was used to test the effects of locations (fixed) and plots (random). Six candidate models (3 for SDD and 3 for CVD), using three categories of explanatory variables (i.e. (i) only stand size measures, (ii) distribution measures, and (iii) combination of i and ii). The best model was chosen based on smaller relative standard error (RSE), prediction residual sum of squares (PRESS), corrected Akaike Information Criterion ($AIC_c$) and larger coefficient of determination ($R^2$). The results of the LMM indicated that location and plot effects were not significant. The CVD and SDD models having only measures of percentiles (i.e. $P_{24}$ and $P_{93}$) as predictors produced better predictions than others. However, CVD model produced the overall best predictions, because of the lower RSE and stability in measuring variability across different stand developments. The results demonstrate the potentials of CVD in modelling stem diameter variability in relationship with percentiles variables.

  • The effects of Ge composition variation in $a-Si_{1-x}Ge_x:H$ alloy p-i-n solar cells on the physical properties and current density-voltage characteristics are analyzed by a new simulation modelling based on the update published experimental datas. The simulation modelling includes newly formulated density of gap density spectrum corresponding to Ge composition variation and utilizes the newly derived generation rate formulars which include the reflection coefficients and can apply to multijunction structures as well as single junction structure. The effects in $a-Si_{1-x}Ge_x:H$ single junction are analyzed through the efficiency, fill factor, open circuit voltage, short circuit current density, free carriers, trap carriers, electric field, generation rate and recombination rate. Based on the results analyzed in single junction structure, the applications to multiple junction structures are discussed and the optimal conditions reaching to a high performance are investigated.

CFD modelling and the development of the diffuser augmented wind turbine

  • Research being undertaken at the University of Auckland has enabled Vortec Energy to improve the performance of the Vortec 7 Diffuser Augmented Wind Turbine. Computational Fluid Dynamic (CFD) modelling of the Vortec 7 was used to ascertain the effectiveness of geometric modifications to the Vortec 7. The CFD work was then developed to look at new geometries, and refinement of these led to greater power augmentation for a given diffuser exit area ratio. Both full scale analysis of the Vortec 7 and a wind tunnel investigation of the development design have been used for comparison with the CFD model.

Effects of modelling on the earthquake response of asymmetrical multistory buildings

  • Responses of asymmetrical multistorey buildings to earthquakes are obtained by quasi-static code approach and real time dynamic analysis, using two different structural models. In the first model, all vertical members are assumed to be restrained at the slab levels and hence their end rotations, about horizontal axes, are taken as zero. In the second model this restriction is removed and the rotation is assumed to be proportional to the lateral stiffness of the member. A simple microcomputer based procedure is used in the analyses, by both models. Numerical examples are presented where results obtained from both the models are given. Effects of modelling on the response of three buildings, each with a different type and degree of asymmetry, are studied. Results for deflections and shear forces are presented and the effects of the type of model on the response are discussed.

Genetic algorithm based optimum design of non-linear steel frames with semi-rigid connections

  • In this article, a genetic algorithm based optimum design method is presented for non-linear steel frames with semi-rigid connections. The design algorithm obtains the minimum weight frame by selecting suitable sections from a standard set of steel sections such as European wide flange beams (i.e., HE sections). A genetic algorithm is employed as optimization method which utilizes reproduction, crossover and mutation operators. Displacement and stress constraints of Turkish Building Code for Steel Structures (TS 648, 1980) are imposed on the frame. The algorithm requires a large number of non-linear analyses of frames. The analyses cover both the non-linear behaviour of beam-to-column connection and $P-{\Delta}$ effects of beam-column members. The Frye and Morris polynomial model is used for modelling of semi-rigid connections. Two design examples with various type of connections are presented to demonstrate the application of the algorithm. The semi-rigid connection modelling results in more economical solutions than rigid connection modelling, but it increases frame drift.
