  • This experiment studied the change in a human's control of his or her static posture by analyzing the stabilogram diffusion and, by using the said study, evaluated the control ability of different groups with different experiences. The postures had a rising requirement of heel-rise according to three conditions: heel-toe, ball, toe; the groups were divided into dance major student and non-dance majors. The results of the critical points according to posture did not show a direct relation with the change in postures that had a rising requirement of heel-rise. The diffusion coefficient(D) had greater stochastic activity for short-term regions that utilize open-loop controls without feedback than for long-term regions that used closed-loop controls with feedback to maintain balance. The directional results of the body undergoing disturbance showed that A/P direction's diffusion coefficient (D) was larger than that of M/L direction. Both feet's planar diffusion coefficients were a linear combination of the diffusion coefficients calculated for the x and y axis. In studying the different abilities to control posture between a dance major student and a non-dance majors, a comparison of open-loop control's diffusion coefficient(D) was effective, and dance major student had superior control ability to that of non-dance majors.

  • Hydraulic excavators have been popular devices in construction field because of its multi-workings and economic efficiency. The mathematical models of excavators have many nonlinearities because of nonlinear opening characteristics and dead zone of main control valve, oil temperature variation, etc. The objective of this paper is to develop a simulator for hydraulic excavator using AMESim. Components and whole circuit are expressed graphically. Parameters and nonlinear characteristics are inputted in text style. From the simulation results, fixed spring stiffness of MCV can't satisfy accuracy of spool displacement under whole P-Q diagrams. Closed loop type MCV containing proportional gain is proposed in this paper that can reduce displacement error. The ability of closed loop MCV is verified through comparing with normal type MCV using AMESim simulator. The simulator can be used to forecastexcavator behavior when new components, new mechanical attachments, hydraulic circuit changes, and new control algorithm are applied. The simulator could be a kind of development platform for various new excavators.

  • Background: Tapered grafts, which have a smaller diameter on the arterial side, have been increasingly used for arteriovenous fistula (AVF) formation. We compared the outcomes of 4-6-mm tapered and 6-mm straight forearm loop arteriovenous grafts. Methods: A total of 103 patients receiving forearm loop arteriovenous grafts between March 2005 and March 2015 were retrospectively analyzed and separated into 2 groups (group A, 4- to 6-mm tapered grafts, n=78; group B, 6-mm straight grafts, n=25). In each group, complications and patency rates after surgery were assessed. Results: Clinical characteristics and laboratory results, except for cerebrovascular disease history (group A, 7.7%; group B, 28.0%; p=0.014), were similar between the groups. No significant differences were found for individual complications. Kaplan-Meier survival analysis revealed no significant differences in 1-year, 3-year, and 5-year patency rates between groups (61.8%, 44.9%, and 38.5% vs. 62.7%, 41.1%, and 35.3%, respectively). Conclusion: We found no significant differences in complication and patency rates between the tapered and straight graft groups. If there are no differences in complication and patency between the two graft types, tapered grafts may be a valuable option for AVF formation in light of their other advantages.

  • The purpose of this work is to develop an effective active control system for combustion instabilities of premixed combustors. For the first step, the natural modes of combustion oscillation were investigated for a methane-air premixed combustor and the controls by secondary fuel injection were examined. The main premixed flame is stabilized by a swirler with orifices for secondary injection installed on the central hub. For sensing purposes, a pressure transducer and a chemiluminescence sensor were placed on the appropriate positions. The acoustic characteristics and the source of the oscillation were analyzed by those signals. To test the controllability, two methods of actuations by secondary fuel injection were examined. One is the open loop control and the other is the closed loop control. The comparison of the reduction levels of p $_{rms}$ shows that the closed loop control with a phase-shift injection performs best in this condition.ition.n.

  • The mitochondrial DNA(mtDNA) D-loop region was amplified from Duroc(Sus scrofa) by polymerase chain reaction(PCR). The oligonucleotide primer used to amplify the Sus scrofa mtDNA D-loop region was designed using tRNA-Pro and tRNA-Phe sequence in mtDNA regions highly conserved in many other animal species. There were 1,145 base pairs(bp) in the D-loop region. The middle of the region contained 10 tandem repeat of an 10-bp Sus scrofa-specific sequence, TACACGTGCG. We designed primers for PCR-mediated single stranded conformation polymorphism(SSCP) analysis that amplified a 345 bp fragment, which contained the most variable region according to our sequencing data. SSCP analysis of denatured amplification products was carried out by polyacrylamide(8%) gel electrophoresis followed by ethidium bromide staining. The SSCP analysis identified two band patterns(A and B) and comparision of these two nucleotide sequences identified 21 base substitutions. These results show that SSCP analysis of the D-loop region is useful for detecting the genetic polymorphism.

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy and effect of various cryopreservation method on the survival and the cytoskeletal stability of metaphase II mouse oocyte. Methods: Mouse ovulated oocytes were collected and cryopreserved by a modified slow-freezing method with 1.5 M 1, 2-propanediol (PrOH)+0.1 M sucrose or by vitrification using cryo loop and EM grid with 40% ethylene glycol+0.6 M sucrose. Four hours after thawing, intact oocytes were fixed and stained with fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC)-conjugated monoclonal anti-$\beta$-tubulin antibody to visualize spindle and propidium iodide (PI) to visualize chromosome. Spindle morphology was classified as follows: normal (barrel-shaped), slightly and absolute abnormal (multipolar or absent). Results: Survival rate of the frozen-thawed oocytes in vitrification group was significantly higher than that of slow-freezing group (62.7% vs. 24.4%, p<0.01). Vitrification with cryo loop showed significantly higher survival rate than that with EM grid (67.7% vs. 53.5%, p<0.05). On the other hand, proportion of normal spindle and chromosome configurations of the frozen-thawed oocytes between two vitrification group was not significantly different. Conclusion: For mouse ovulated oocytes, vitrification with cryo loop may be a preferable procedure compared to slow-freezing method. Further study should be needed to investigate developmental competency of frozen-thawed mouse oocytes.

  • The plasmid pJB01, a member of the pMV158 family isolated from Enterococcus faecium JC1, contains three open reading frames, copA, repB, and repC. Plasmids included in this family produce counter-transcribed RNA (ctRNA) that contributes to copy number control. The pJB01 ctRNA, a transcript which consists of 54 nucleotides (nts), is encoded on the opposite strand from the copA/repB intergenic region and partially overlaps an atypical ribosome binding site (ARBS) for repB. The ARBS is integrated by the two underlined conserved regions: 5'-TTTTTGTNNNNTAANNNNNNNNNATG-3', and the ctRNA is complementary only to the 5' conserved sequence 5'-TTTTTGT-3'. This complementary sequence is located at a distance from the terminal loop of the ctRNA secondary structure. The ctRNA structure predicted by the mfold program suggests the possible generation of a terminal and an internal hairpin loop. The amount of in vitro translation product of repB mRNA was inversely proportional to the ctRNA concentration. Mutations in the terminal and internal hairpin loops of the ctRNA had inhibitory effects on its binding to the target mRNA. We propose that the intact structures of the terminal and internal hairpin loops, respectively, play important roles in forming the initial kissing and extending complexes between the ctRNA and target mRNA and that these regulate the copy number of this plasmid.

  • We have previously reported the role of miR-326-HDAC3 loop in anti-cancer drug-resistance. CAGE, a cancer/testis antigen, regulates the response to anti-cancer drug-resistance by forming a negative feedback loop with miR-200b. Studies investigating the relationship between CAGE and HDAC3 revealed that HDAC3 negatively regulated the expression of CAGE. ChIP assays demonstrated the binding of HDAC3 to the promoter sequences of CAGE. However, CAGE did not affect the expression of HDAC3. We also found that EGFR signaling regulated the expressions of HDAC3 and CAGE. Anti-cancer drug-resistant cancer cell lines show an increased expression of $pEGFR^{Y845}$. HDAC3 was found to negatively regulate the expression of $pEGFR^{Y845}$. CAGE showed an interaction and co-localization with EGFR. It was seen that miR-326, a negative regulator of HDAC3, regulated the expression of CAGE, $pEGFR^{Y845}$, and the interaction between CAGE and EGFR. miR-326 inhibitor induced the binding of HDAC3 to the promoter sequences in anti-cancer drug-resistant $Malme3M^R$ cells, decreasing the tumorigenic potential of $Malme3M^R$ cells in a manner associated with its effect on the expression of HDAC3, CAGE and $pEGFR^{Y845}$. The down-regulation of HDAC3 enhanced the tumorigenic, angiogenic and invasion potential of the anti-cancer drug-sensitive Malme3M cells in CAGE-dependent manner. Studies revealed that $PKC{\delta}$ was responsible for the increased expression of $pEGFR^{Y845}$ and CAGE in $Malme3M^R$ cells. CAGE showed an interaction with $PKC{\delta}$ in $Malme3M^R$ cells. Our results show that HDAC3-CAGE axis can be employed as a target for overcoming resistance to EGFR inhibitors.

  • In this paper, a digital phase-locked loop(Digital-PLL) circuit with a new phase-to-digital converter(P2D) is described. The proposed digital PLL is composed a P2D, a digital loop filter(DLF), and a digitally controlled oscillator(DCO). The P2D generates a digital code for a phase error. The proposed P2D used a binary phase frequency detector(BPFD) and a counter in place of a time-to-digital converter(TDC) for simple structure, compact area and low power consumption. The proposed circuit was designed with CMOS 0.18um process. The simulation shows the circuit operates with the 1.0 to 2.2GHz with the power consumption of 16.2mW at 1.65GHz and the circuit occupies the chip area of $0.096mm^2$.
