  • P-values are often perceived as measurements of degree of compatibility between the current data and the hypothesized model. In this paper, a new concept of Bayesian p-values is proposed and studied under the non-informative prior distributions, which can be thought as the Bayesian counterparts of the classical p-values in the sense of using the concept of significance level. The performances of the proposed Bayesian p-values are compared with those of the classical p-values through several examples.

  • Purpose: This study was to examine nursing values and attitudes toward nursing professions after fundamental nursing practice education. Method: The participants were 166 first-year students. Values and professional attitude were measured. Results: Nursing values increased to 4.49(${\pm}.42$) after 1st semester and 4.64(${\pm}.35$) after 2nd semester from 4.32(${\pm}.47$) before the education(t=7.71, p= .000). Nursing professional attitude also increased to 3.95(${\pm}.49$) after 1st semester and 4.20(${\pm}.45$) after 2nd semester(t=9.1, p= .000). While voluntary applicants have showed a significant difference in nursing values since they started college education(t=3.34, p=.001), partially voluntarily applicants showed after finishing the 1st semester(t=-3.02, p=.002). Regarding nursing professional attitude of voluntary applicants, there was a significant difference between starting college education(t=2.35, p=.020) and finishing the 1st semester(t=-2.66, p= .008). Interest in fundamental nursing practice had a significant correlation with satisfaction(r=.301, p=.000) and nursing values(r=.163, p=.035). Nursing values had a significant correlation with nursing professional attitude(r=.590, p=.000). Conclusion: The fundamental nursing practice is effective in changing nursing values and nursing professional attitude in students taking the course.

  • In this paper, we compare Fisher's continuous method with an exact discrete analog of Fisher's continuous method from permutation tests for combining p values. The discrete analog of Fisher's continuous method is known to be adequate for combining independent p values from discrete probability distributions. Also permutation tests are widely used as alternatives to conventional parametric tests since these tests are distribution-free, and yield discrete probability distributions and exact p values. In this paper, we obtain permutation p values from discrete probability distributions using Mann-Whitney test data sets (real data and hypothetical data) and combine p values by the exact discrete analog of Fisher's continuous method.

  • Since the definition of pH, $pH=-Ioga_H$ is based on a single ion activity, pH values can not be determined with measurement itself, but require an approximation method. They are derived from EMF measurement of a liquid junction free cell using hydrogen and Ag/AgCl electrodes. Primary standard materials with certified pH values can be obtained with this approximation method. Standard buffer solutions are used to calibrate pH meters. Thus the accuracy of the pH values of standard buffer solutions limits the reliability of measured pH values can be obtained with this approximation method. Standard buffer solution are used to calibrate pH meters. Thus the accuracy of the pH values of standard buffer solutions limits the reliability of measured pH values of sample solutions. To certify the pH values, we have established the system for the primary standard measurement and certified the pH of buffer solutions in the range of 1.6∼12.5 pH unit within uncertainty of ${\pm}0.005$ pH unit.

  • Permutation p-values are provided for the agreement measures for multivariate interval data among many raters. Three agreement measures, Berry and Mielke's measure, Janson and Olsson's measure, and Um's measure are described and compared. Exact and resampling permutation methods are utilized to compute p-values and empirical quantile limits for three measures. Comparisons of p-values demonstrate that resampling permutation methods provide close approximations to exact p-values, and Berry and Mielke's measure and Um's measure show similar performance in terms of measuring agreement.

  • Objectives : The aim of this study is to examine the effects of acupuncture at PC7(Daereung) on normal human EEG using power spectral analysis. Methods : EEG power spectrum exhibits site-specific and state-related differences in specific frequency bands. In this study, power spectrum was used as a measure of complexity. 30 subjects (16 males and 14 females; averaged age = 23.4 years) were engaged with thirty channel EEG study. Results : In $\alpha$(alpha) band, the power values at Fp1, Fp2, F7, F8 channels(p<0.05) during PC7 treatment were significantly decreased. But, the power values at Fz channel(p<0.05) during non-acupoint treatment was significantly decreased. In $\beta$(beta) band, the power values at Fp1, Fp2 channels(p<0.05) during PC7 treatment were significantly decreased. But, the power values at Fz channel(p<0.05) during non-acupoint treatment was significantly decreased and at F8, TCP2 channels(p<0.05) during non-acupoint treatment were increased. In $\theta$(theta) band, the power values at Fp1, Fp2, F7, F8 channels(p<0.05) during PC7 treatment were significantly decreased. But, the power values at Fz channel(p<0.05) during non-acupoint treatment was significantly decreased. In $\delta$(delta) band, the power values at Fp1, Fp2, F7, Fz, F8 channels (p<0.05) during PC7 treatment were significantly decreased. But, the power values at Fz channel (p<0.05) during non-acupoint treatment was significantly decreased. $\alpha/\beta$ values during PC7 treatment were decreased. $\beta/\theta$ values during PC7 treatment were decreased. Conclusion : These results suggest that acupuncture at PC7 induce the change on $\alpha$(alpha), $\beta$(beta), $\theta$ (theta), $\delta$(delta) wave values being decreased and and bothe $\alpha/\beta$ and $\beta/\theta$ values being decreased respectively. This is considered that acupuncture at PC7 affects the activity of cerebral cortex and endocrine system.

  • The present study was conducted in order to get the relationship of heartworm, Dirofilaria immitis and eosinophils in blood of Jindo dogs. Blood samples were taken from 141( man 31, womam 110) of yellow, 44 ( man 17, woman27) of white Jindo dogs in Jindo area. The results obtained in this study were summarized as follows : 1. There were no significant differences of the hematological values in comparison with others reported values, but the mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration and the number of eosinophils were high in comparison with other reported values. 2. The mean values of total white blood cell count(P<0.05), neutrophil(P<0.05) and monocyte(P< 0.05) were that the yellow dogs and a tendency toward fisher values than the white dogs, but no significant differences were observed. 3. Age-related differences were detected for the total erythrocyte count(P<0.05), hemoglobin content (P<0.001), PCV(P<0.001) and the number of eosinophils(P<0.001). 4. The direct and indirect eosinophil counts were increased with age, there were no significant differences of the values between two groups. 5. Dirofilaria immitis was found in 34(18.4%), increased with age and were relatively significant differences in areas of the 185 Jindo dogs. 6. Survey for hematological values of Dirofilaria immitis infected dogs with direct and indirect method, mean values of eosinophil were 2,788/ ${\mu}l,$ 3,021/ ${\mu}$l, respectively. They showed that eosinophil had a tendency toward higher values than others, but others were no significant differences.

  • Fisher's classical method for combining independent p-values from continuous distributions is widely used but it is known to be inadequate for combining p-values from discrete probability distributions. Instead, the discrete analog of Fisher's classical method is used as an alternative for combining p-values from discrete distributions. In this paper, firstly we obtain p-values from discrete probability distributions associated with multi-sample location test data (Fisher-Pitman test and Kruskall-Wallis test data) by permutation method, and secondly combine the permutaion p-values by the discrete analog of Fisher's classical method. And we finally compare the combined p-values from both the discrete analog of Fisher's classical method and Fisher's classical method.

  • Meta-analysis is used in variety of areas to synthesize the results of previous studies. Among the methods for Meta-analysis, combining p-values is the simplest method; in addition Tippett (1931), Fisher (1932), Stuoffer at al. (1949), proposed various methods to combine p-values. We propose a new method to combine p-values based on exponential distribution. A Monte Carlo simulation study compares the power of the proposed methods with previous methods.
