An early step in the pathogenesis of non-typhoidal Salmonella species is the ability to penetrate the intestinal epithelial monolayer. This process of cell invasion requires the production and transport of secreted effector proteins by a type III secretion apparatus encoded in Salmonella pathogenicity island I (SPI-1). The control of invasion involves a number of genetic regulators and environmental stimuli in complex relationships. SPI-1 itself encodes several transcriptional regulators (HilA, HilD, HilC, and InvF) with overlapping sets of target genes. These regulators are, in turn, controlled by both positive and regulators outside SPI-1, including the two-component regulators BarA/SirA and PhoP/Q, and the csr post-transcriptional control system. Additionally, several environmental conditions are known to regulate invasion, including pH, osmolarity, oxygen tension, bile, $Mg^{2+}$ concentration, and short chain fatty acids. This review will discuss the current understanding of invasion control, with emphasis on the interaction of environmental factors with genetic regulators that leads to productive infection.
An STI(Shallow Trench Isolation) by using a CMP(Chemical Mechanical Polishing) process has been one of the key issues in the device isolation[1] In this paper we fabricated N, P-MOSFEET tall analyse hump characteristics in various rounding oxdation thickness(ex : Skip, 500, 800, 1000$\AA$). As a result we found that hump occurred at STI channel edge region by field oxide recess. and boron segregation(early turn on due to boron segregatiorn at channel edge). Therefore we improved that hump occurrence by increased oxidation thickness, and control field oxide recess( 20nm), wet oxidation etch time(19HF,30sec), STI nitride wet cleaning time(99HF, 60sec+P 90min) and fate pre-oxidation cleaning time (U10min+19HF, 60sec) to prevent hump occurring at STI channel edge.
Panax ginseng has been reported to protect animals or to help them recover from physical, chemical, or biological stress. The antistress effects of ginseng were evaluated through the measurement of adrenal ascorbic acid, rectal temperature, and plasma level of glucose. lipids and corticosterone. During the treadmill experiments of the antifatigue study, the groups of rats receiving P. ginseng or P. quinquefolius extracts were consistently found to leave fewer fecal boli on the wheel compared with controls. This phenomenon may be due to the reported antistress effects of ginseng. Another possibility could be that the Panax species examined produced anticholinergic effects which in turn inhibited the production of fecal boli. After an anticholinergic study. employing physostigmine and atropine as controls, anticholinergic effect was found not essential for the decrease of fecal boli number left on the wheels during antifatigue studies. The results were consistent with the antistress activity reported previously. Even though the active constituents responsible for the antistress effects of ginseng remained to be determined, the fecal boli counts for stressed rats can be employed as a new protocol for evaluating the antistress effects of ginseng.
Objectives : In this study, the anti-stress effects of ethanolic extract of Opuntiaficus-indica (OF70E) were investigated. Methods : To determine the effects of OF70E on physical stress, changes in whole-body cortisol level or behavior were monitored in zebrafish. After treatment with 0.9% saline or OF70E for 6 min, all fish underwent net handling stress (NHS), which induced physical stress. And then, we conducted open field test (OFT) or sacrificed fish for collecting body fluid from whole-body. We used the cortisol enzyme-linked immunoassay kit to measure the amount of cortisol in each zebrafish sample. Results : In result, compared with normal group which were not treated by NHS, whole-body cortisol levels were significantly increased in stressed-control group. Compared with control group, pretreatment with OF70E at concentrations of 25, 50 and 100 mg/L for 6min significantly inhibited the increase of whole-body cortisol levels induced by NHS(p<0.05). To anti-stress effects of OF70E on behavior, we conducted OFT after the induction of NHS following pretreatment of OF70E. As results of OFT, compared with unstressed-normal group, distance moved was significantly decreased by induction of NHS in stressed-control group (p<0.05). OF70E-pretreatment blocked decreases of distance moved increased by NHS (p<0.05). And meandering movement, immobility and turn angle were significantly increased by NHS in stressed-control group compared with unstressed-normal group (p<0.05). OF70E-pretreatment prevented the increases of meandering movement immobility and turn angle by NHS (p<0.05). Conclusions : In conclusion these results suggest that OF70E-pretreatment may prevent stress responses.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of quality factors on value, satisfaction and loyalty in a wine training program. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: Structural verification of the wine training program loyalty model showed that the quality of the wine training program positively affected both value (p<0.001) and satisfaction (p<0.001). Further, the value of the wine training program positively affected satisfaction (p<0.01), which in turn positively influenced loyalty (p<0.001). The quality of the wine training program was presented as solicitude for students, textbook and curriculum, qualification and confidence of lecturer and staff, and training quality, whereas the value of the program was composed of sense of belonging, promotion of self-esteem, good impression on others, and improvement of social status. Therefore, the wine training institute's intensive management of the quality and value of the program could induce students' loyalty by enhancing satisfaction for the wine training program.

To investigate the effect of metal electrode in electroluminescent[EL] devices, we fabricated EL devices of ITO/P3HT/Al, ITO/P3HT/LiF/Al and ITO/P3HT/Mg:In structure. In current-voltage-light power characteristics, turn-on voltage of EL devices using LiF insulating layer and Mg:In(2.8V) metal electrode is lower than EL device using Al(4.2V). Besides the external quantum efficiency is improved also. The reason is related to carrier mobility and carrier injection, which would affect the hole-electron balance. In the device with Al electrode, holes injected from indium-tin-oxide[ITO] to poly(3-hexylthiophene)[P3HT] might reach the Al electrode without interacting with injected electrons, because the electron injection efficiency was very low for this electrode. Besides oxidation of the Al electrode is likely due to holes reaching the cathode without meeting injected electrons. Another possible reason for the higher EL efficiency may be the insulating layer playing the role of a tunneling barrier for holes to the Al electrode. In all EL devices, the orange-red light was clearly visible in a dark room. Maximum peak wavelength of EL spectrum emitted at 640nm in accordance with photon energy 1.9eV
New electroluminescent polymers with fluoro groups in vinylene units, poly(m-silylphenyl-p-phenylene-difluorovinylene) (m-SiP-PPDFV) have been synthesized by GILCH polymerization. These polymers have been used as the electroluminescent (EL) layers in single layer light-emitting diodes (LEDs) (ITO/PEDOT/polymer/Ca:Al). m-SiP-PPDFV shows PL around $\lambda_{max}$ = 452 nm and green EL around $\lambda_{max}$ = 497 nm. The current-voltage-luminance (I-V-L) characteristics of the polymers show turn-on voltages of 4.0 V approximately. Two fluoro groups were introduced on every vinylene units of m-SiP-PPV to give m-SiP-PPDFV in an attempt to increase the electron affinity of the parent polymer, and the devices show an increased color stability even with vinylene units. The color stability is attributed to the electron-withdrawing effect of the fluoro groups, which protect vinylene units from oxidation in PPV derivatives. We believe that fluoro groups can be introduced in vinylene units in order to attain excellent stability of PPV derivatives.
The toxicity of inorganic sulfuric acid as a stressor was characterized in Saccharomyces cerevisiae KNU5377. In this work, we examined physiological responses to low extracellular pH $(pH_{ex})$ caused by inorganic $H_2SO_4$, which could not affect cell growth after pH was adjusted to an optimum with Trizma base. The major toxicity of sulfuric and was found to be reduction of environmental pH, resulting in stimulation of plasma membrane ${H^+}-ATPase$, which in turn contributed to intracellular alkalinization. Using a pH-dependent fluorescence probe, 5-(and-6)-carboxy SNARF-1, acetoxymethyl ester, acetate (carboxy SNARF-1 AM acetate), to determine $pH_{in}$, we found that color was dependent on the changes of intracellular pH which coincided with calculated $pH_{in}$ of alkalinization up to approximately pH 7.3. This alkalinization did not seem to affect survival of these cells exposed to 30 mM sulfuric acid, which lowered the $pH_{ex}$ of the glucose containing growth media up to approximately pH 3.0; however, the cells could grow only up to 70% of the maximum growth in the same media, when 30 mM sulfuric acid was added.
Background: Development of squamous cell cancer of head and neck (SCCHN) is associated with human papillomavirus (HPV) infection, which in turn is closely related with expression of $p16^{INK4A}$. Loss of $p16^{INK4A}$ expression by deletion, mutation, or hypermethylation is common in SCCHN. We here evaluated $p16^{INK4A}$ as a prognostic marker of treatment response and survival in our SCCHN patients with laryngeal, hypopharyngeal or nasopharyngeal cancers. Materials and Methods: 131 patients diagnosed with SCCHN between January 2,2006 and July 17, 2010 were examined for $p16^{INK4A}$. The median age was 60 years (15-82 years). Fifty one patients were stage I-II and 80 were stage III-IV. Immunohistochemical expression of $p16^{INK4A}$ was analyzed in pretreatment paraffin-embedded tumor blocks. The influence of $p16^{INK4A}$ status on disease-free survival, and overall survival after treatment was evaluated. Results: $p16^{INK4A}$ positivity was found in 58 patients (44%). Tumor-positivity for$ p16^{INK4A}$ was correlated with improved disease free survival (70.1 months vs 59 months) and improved overall survival (2, 3 and 5-year values; 77% vs 72%, 70% vs 63% and, 63% vs 55%; respectively). On multivariate analysis, stage was determined as independent prognostic factor for disease-free survival. Conclusions: Stage was the major prognostic factor on treatment response and survival in our patients. $p16^{INK4A}$ status predicts better outcome in laryngeal, hypopharyngeal or nasopharyngeal cancer cases treated with surgery plus adjuvant radiochemotherapy as well as with definitive radiation therapy and/or chemotherapy.
Conversion of the normal soluble form of prion protein, PrP ($PrP^C$), to proteinase K-resistant form ($PrP^{Sc}$) is a common molecular etiology of prion diseases. Proteinase K-resistance is attributed to a drastic conformational change from ${\alpha}$-helix to ${\beta}$-sheet and subsequent fibril formation. Compelling evidence suggests that membranes play a role in the conformational conversion of PrP. However, biophysical mechanisms underlying the conformational changes of PrP and membrane binding are still elusive. Recently, we demonstrated that the putative transmembrane domain (TMD; residues 111-135) of Syrian hamster PrP penetrates into the membrane upon the reduction of the conserved disulfide bond of PrP. To understand the mechanism underlying the membrane insertion of the TMD, here we explored changes in conformation and membrane binding abilities of PrP using wild type and cysteine-free mutant. We show that the reduction of the disulfide bond of PrP removes motional restriction of the TMD, which might, in turn, expose the TMD into solvent. The released TMD then penetrates into the membrane. We suggest that the disulfide bond regulates the membrane binding mode of PrP by controlling the motional freedom of the TMD.
