  • Asphalt concrete (AC), is a mixture of bitumen and aggregates, which is very sensitive in the design of flexible pavement. In this study, the Marshall stability of the glass and carbon fiber bituminous concrete was predicted by using Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Random Forest (RF), and M5P Tree machine learning algorithms. To predict the Marshall stability, nine inputs parameters i.e., Bitumen, Glass and Carbon fibers mixed in 100:0, 75:25, 50:50, 25:75, 0:100 percentage (designated as 100GF:0CF, 75GF:25CF, 50GF:50 CF, 25GF:75CF, 0GF:100CF), Bitumen grade (VG), Fiber length (FL), and Fiber diameter (FD) were utilized from the experimental and literary data. Seven statistical indices i.e., coefficient of correlation (CC), mean absolute error (MAE), root mean squared error (RMSE), relative absolute error (RAE), root relative squared error (RRSE), Scattering index (SI), and BIAS were applied to assess the effectiveness of the developed models. According to the performance evaluation results, Artificial neural network (ANN) was outperforming among other models with CC values as 0.9147 and 0.8648, MAE values as 1.3757 and 1.978, RMSE values as 1.843 and 2.6951, RAE values as 39.88 and 49.31, RRSE values as 40.62 and 50.50, SI values as 0.1379 and 0.2027 and BIAS value as -0.1 290 and -0.2357 in training and testing stage respectively. The Taylor diagram (testing stage) also confirmed that the ANN-based model outperforms the other models. Results of sensitivity analysis showed that the fiber length is the most influential in all nine input parameters whereas the fiber combination of 25GF:75CF was the most effective among all the fiber mixes in Marshall stability.

  • Paclitaxel is an effective antineoplastic agent against ovarian, colon and breast tumors. But there have been many difficulties to formulate this drug due to the extremely low aqueous solubility. Paclitaxel is currently formulated in a vehicle composed of Cremophor EL and absolute ethanol mixture which is $5\~20$ fold diluted in normal saline or $5\%$ dextrose solution before I.V. injection. However, this formulation has many problems such as allergic reactions and drug precipitation on aqueous dilution. To overcome these problems, we prepared the micelle and microemulsion systems for parenteral administration of paclitaxel by using glycofurol, $Soluto^{(R)}lHS$ 15 and oleic acid. Phase diagram, pH-rate stability, particle size distributions and pharmacokinetics of the systems were studied. Micelles and microemulsions formulated as nano-particle delivery system were physically and chemically stable. Therefore, these formulations might be the promising alternative candidate for the parenteral delivery of paclitaxel.

  • A numerical method for scattering of electromagnetic waves from a periodic strip grating over a grounded dielectric slab is considered for TE and TM polarization cases from the viewpoints of both reflection grating problem and leaky wave antenna problem. The analysis is based on a mode expansion method, floquet's theorem, and the method of moments. Numerical results involving some combinations of geometric parameters are presented in terms of complex propagation constant (kd-$\beta$d diagram), radiation pattern, and relative scattered powers of spectral modes. In particular, the relationship between complex propagatio constnat form the viewpoint of leaky wqve antenna problem and Off-bragg and bragg blazing phenomena from the viewpoint of reflecton graing problem is investigated.

The albumin, ${\beta}-globurin$ and ${\gamma}-globurin$ fractions of non-vaccinated bovine serum (Control) int declined, and a total protein and ${\alpha}-globurin$ level are advanced on the reversible rather than of vaccinated immumized bovine serum. (Table 5.) 2. Some few exists the to bring about changed in the individuals and sexual in a vaccinated bovine serum, however, Male serum globurin fractions are higher than Female globurin fractions percentage. (Table 1 and 3.) 3. Albumin fractions are Age-ablly variable, so that, younger's are rather lower than adult's such reported as in the another litratures. 4. In the monthly analysis of immunized bovine serum the first week to at dulation for third weeks were slowly advanced as variablly in serum-protein fractions of ater by the Black-leg No. 2 vaccination, then, albumin fractions were illustated as maximum ratio (42.73 3.49%) and increased much as 14.9% more than non-vaccinates, and ${\alpha}-globurin$ fractions indicated the minimum ratio(15.11 2.35%) at for 4th month after vaccination decrease much as about 7.71 % rather non-vaccinated normal bovine serum. (Table 4. and Fig 3.) Next, continuous advanced the ${\beta}-globurin$ fractions at first month as primary crisis in a diagram, and indicated the maximum ratio at 8th months as the second crieir on the its diagram of after vaccinati on, however, few changed in non-vaccinated bovine serum. (Figs 4.) Especially, ${\gamma}-globurin$ fractions are advanced the maximum ratio as 41. 45% 4.48% anp advanced to be widely range much as about 22.55% more than control serum at 5th months of after the vaccination. That is one of the most considerable evalution in Black-leg No. 2 vaccination to Korean calevs as great presence of the maximum immune antibodies at for 5th month after the vaccination. (Table 4. and Fig 4.) 5. In the relationship between vaccinated rabbit and Korean calves, serum protein fraractions were to be changed within the 3 weeks, so that albumin fractions of vaccinated immune bovine serum are increased as directly ratio, while vaccinated rabbit immunized serum showed the decrease as to reciprocal ratio. Although, conclude that ${\gamma}-globurin$ fractions are increased gradually by and large on the vaccinated immune bovine serum(B. P. S.) and vaccinated immune rabbit serum(R. P. S.) together. • The Yeongdeok granite emplaced in the eastern Yeongyang subbasin is typically a medium- to coarse-grained massive biotite granite. It intruded into Precambrian schist & gneiss complex and is unconformably overlain by Cretaceous sedimentary rocks. In this study, we attempt to investigate the magma type which formed Yeongdeok granite and estimate the emplacement depth using Al-in-hornblende geobarometer to mineral composition. According to the magma fractionation, $TiO_2$, $Al_2O_3$, $Fe_2O_3{^*}$, FeO, $Fe_2O_3$, MnO, MgO, CaO, $Na_2O$ and $P_2O_5$ show positive trend but $K_2O$ indicate negative trend with $SiO_2$ contents. Those are identified as calc-alkaline series in AFM diagram and show the chemical characteristics of the I-type magma through the oxidation tendency of the iron ion and the portion of the alkaline composition. When calculated using the equation of Hollister et al. (1987), the emplacement depths of the Yeongdeok granite range from 8.98 to 17.19 km and average depth was estimated 13.03 km approximately.

  • Piper Alpha disaster drew attention to the damage likely to arise from explosions and fires on an offshore platform. And great concerns have been increased to prevent these hazards. Blast wall is one of the passive safety systems; it plays a key part of minimizing the consequences. However, a buckling due to explosion loads is a factor which can reduce the strength of blast wall. The buckling often occurs between web and flange at the center of blast wall. This study aims to find a solution for reinforcing its strength by installing a flat plate at the spot where the buckling occurs. First of all, ANSYS finite element method is adopted to numerically compute the structural resistance characteristic of blast wall by using a quasi-static approach. Sequentially, the impact response characteristics of blast wall are investigated the effect on thickness of flat plate by using ANSYS/LS-DYNA. Finally, pressure-impulse diagrams (P-I diagram) are presented to permit easy assessment of structural response characteristics of stiffened blast wall. In this study, effective use is made to increase structural intensity. of blast wall and acquired important insights have been documented.

  • The vertical distribution and chemical characteristics of water masses were measured along two south-north transects in the polar front region of the central Korean East Sea. In February, a thermocline was present at depth between 50m and loom at the southern sites of a landward A-transect, and its depth was gradually deepened northward. At an outside B-transect, a thermocline was observed at significantly deep depth of 300m to 400m at two northern stations(Stn. 10 and 11), though the depth of the southward stations was nearly identical to that at the northward stations on a A-transect. In September, there were vertically more various water masses, i.e. the Tsushima Warm surface water(TWSW) or more than $20^{\circ}C$, the Tsushima Middle water(TMW) with a range of $12{\~}17^{\circ}C$, the North Korea Cold Water(NKCW) with $1{\~}7^{\circ}C$ temperature, the Japan Sea Proper Water(JSPW) of less than $1^{\circ}C$, and the mixed water. The North Korea Cold Water could be distinguishable from the other waters, especially from the mixed water of the Tsushima Middle Water and the Japan Sea Proper Water by the pattern of $T-O_2$ diagram. For instance, the North Korea Cold Water had higher oxygen by $1{\~}2ml/l$ than those in the mixed water, although both the two water masses ranged $1{\~}7^{\circ}C$ in water temperature. AOU value was the highest in the JSPW and the lowest in the TWSW. Also, AOU indicated a nearly linear and negative correlation with water temperature. However, AOU data for two masses, the NKCW and the TMW, in September departed remarkably from a regression line. Moreover, the ratio of $$\Delta P/\Delta AOU)$ in September was about $0.45{\mu}g-at/ml$ and higher than the value observed in the open sea. This high value could be elucidated by two factors; intrusion of the NKCW with high oxygen and molecular diffusion of dissolved oxygen from the surface into the lower layer. AOU would be a useful tracer for water masses in the polar front area of the Korean East Sea.

  • The occurrence, distribution, and hydrogeochemical characteristics of uranium and radon in groundwater within different lithologies in Gyeongnam and Gyeongbuk provinces were investigated. A total of 201 groundwater samples from sedimentary rocks taking a large portion of the geology and from igneous rocks taking a small portion of the geology were analyzed and examined using factor analysis. Their radionuclide levels were used to construct detailed concentration maps. The groundwater types, defined using a Piper diagram, are mainly Ca-$HCO_3$ with less Na-$HCO_3$. Among the samples, one site exceeds $30{\mu}g/L$ of uranium (i.e., the maximum contaminant level of the USEPA) and three sites exceed 4,000 pCi/L of radon (i.e., the alternative maximum contaminant level). No samples were found to exceed the 15 pCi/L level of gross alpha or the 5 pCi/L level of radium. The concentration of uranium ranges from 0.02 to $53.7{\mu}g/L$, with a mean of $1.56{\mu}g/L$, a median of $0.47{\mu}g/L$, and a standard deviation of $4.3{\mu}g/L$. The mean concentrations of uranium for the different geological units increase in the following order: Shindong Group, Granites, Hayang Group, Yucheon Group, and Tertiary sedimentary rocks. The concentration of radon ranges from 2 to 8,740 pCi/L, with an mean of 754 pCi/L, a median of 510 pCi/L, and a standard deviation of 907 pCi/L. The mean radon concentrations for the investigated geological units increase in the following order: Granites, Yucheon Group, Tertiary sedimentary rocks, Hayang Group and Shindong Group. According to the factor analysis for each geological unit, uranium and radon behave independently of each other with no specific correlation. However, radionuclides show close relationships with some components. Regional investigations of radionuclides throughout the country require an integrated approach that considers the main lithological units as well as administrative districts.

  • The study performed a regional flood frequency analysis and proposed a regression equation to estimate design floods corresponding to return periods for ungauged basins in Geum-river basin. Five preliminary tests were employed to investigate hydrological independence and homogeneity of streamflow data, i.e. the lag-one autocorrelation test, time homogeneity test, Grubbs-Beck outlier test, discordancy measure test ($D_i$), and regional homogeneity measure (H). The test results showed that streamflow data were time-independent, discordant and homogeneous within the basin. Using five probability distributions (generalized extreme value (GEV), three-parameter log-normal (LN-III), Pearson type 3 (P-III), generalized logistic (GLO), generalized Pareto (GPA)), comparative regional flood frequency analyses were carried out for the region. Based on the L-moment ratio diagram, average weighted distance (AWD) and goodness-of-fit statistics ($Z^{DIST}$), the GLO distribution was selected as the best fit model for Geum-river basin. Using the GLO, a regression equation was developed for estimating regional design floods, and validated by comparing the estimated and observed streamflows at the Ganggyeong station.
