Vibrio parahaemolyticus contamination causes serious foodborne illness and has become a global health problem. As a disinfectant, aqueous ozone can effectively kill a number of bacteria, viruses, parasites, and other microorganisms. In this study, three factors, namely, the aqueous ozone concentration, the exposure time, and the bacterial density, were analyzed by response surface methodology, and the aqueous ozone concentration was the most influential factor in the sterilization ratio. Under low aqueous ozone concentrations (less than 0.125 mg/l), the bacterial cell membranes remained intact, and the ozone was detoxified by intracellular antioxidant enzymes (e.g., superoxide dismutase and catalase). Under high aqueous ozone concentrations (more than 1 mg/l), cell membranes were damaged by the degree of peripheral electronegativity at the cell surface and the concentration of lactate dehydrogenase released into the extracellular space, and the ultrastructures of the cells were confirmed by transmission electron microscopy. Aqueous ozone penetrated the cells through leaking membranes, inactivated the enzymes, inhibited almost all the genes, and degraded the genetic materials of gDNA and total RNA, which eventually led to cell death.
This study was conducted to investigate the optimal conditions for the growth of soybean sprouts by ozone water watering. Optimal conditions for ozone water watering of soybean sprouts during cultivation at 2$0^{\circ}C$ were evaluated with ozone concentration(0.1~O.5 ppm) and watering frequency(1~9 times) by response surface methodology. The optimal conditions for growth of soybean sprouts were ozone concentrations of 0.20~0.32 ppm, ozone treatment frequency of 3.0~4.4 times. Germination rates, hypocotyl weights and hypocotyl lengths in the soybean sprouts cultivated under the optimal conditions increased by 13.3, 10.1 and 11.9%, respectively, whereas root weights decreased by 89.0%.
A high accuracy ozone monitor using UV absorption method was developed for ambient ozone monitoring. The system was mainly composed of a high power pulsed xenon lamp as UV source, an optical spectrometer with a high sensitivity linear CCD array as UV detector and signal processing unit. The optical signal from the CCD array that provides unusually high response and excellent optical resolution for ozone concentration was converted to digital signal and the digital signal was displayed on screen using PC interface. The optical signal was propagated using optic fiber to reduce optical loss to increase the accuracy of the measuring system. This paper has been studied a interworking signalling protocol between two hybrid networks by analyzing Satellite B-ISDN architecture, DSS2 Layer 3 Signalling protocol, B-ISUP protocol, S-BISUP protocol stack and so on. Also in the paper, messages and primitives have been defined for B-ISDN's Connection Type, Ownership and each protocol in order to connect point-to-multipoint. The ozone sensing properties of the CCD ozone monitor was compared with those of the photo multiplier ozone monitor.

$In_2O_3$-based thick films for the ozone detection of ppb range have been investigated. The $In_2O_3$ sensing layer is quite sensitive to ozone, but the saturated stable sensitivity cannot be obtained at the ozone exposure of 100 ppb for 5 min. The addition of $Fe_2O_3$ into $In_2O_3$ indicates some improvement in response time and sensitivity, but it seems the improvement is not good enough for real applications. Firing of $In_2O_3$:$Fe_2O_3$ powder induces remarkable improvement in response and recovery, although the sensitivity decrease. The sensing layer fired at $1300^{\circ}C$ and operated $550^{\circ}C$ shows excellent properties of fast response time, saturated stable sensitivity and rapid recovery characteristics to 100 ppb ozone exposure for 5 min. Especially, it shows the reproducibility of the sensor signal for repeated measurements and the linearity between the ozone concentration and the sensor resistance. The preliminary results clearly demonstrated that the sensor can be successfully applied for the ozone detection of ppb range.

Simulations of CMAQ with the High-order Decoupled Direct Method (HDDM) for a 2010 June episode are applied to estimate the influence of local and neighborhood emissions on ozone concentrations in the Kwang-Yang Bay (KYB) area. In order to examine ozone response to reductions in $NO_x$ and VOC emissions from KYB and Gyeongsang, ozone isopleths are generated with the first and second-order sensitivity coefficients from HDDM simulations at three sites; Taein, Samil, and Gwangmoo. Simulations show that reduction in KYB $NO_x$ may increase ozone over the sites. On the contrary, $NO_x$ reduction from Gyeongsang may decrease ozone at the sites when transport of ozone and its precursors from upwind Gyeongsang is potentially high. However, VOC reductions from KYB and Gyeongsang are favorable to lower ozone over KYB. The study implies that emission reductions for both local and neighboring areas are likely more effective to bring KYB to ozone attainment.
The effects of ozone (O$_{3}$) exposures on chlorophyll content of trembling aspen(Populus tremuliodes) rooted cuttings were studied. Ozone was treated with 100 ppb fumigation for 6 hours per day, for three consecutive days per week in open-top chamber. The ozone exposures caused severe foliage damage expressed in necrotic patches and extensive chlorosis. Degradation of chlorophyll was observed mostly in mature leaves. The chlorophyll response to ozone exposure maintained a similar pattern during all experimental seasons and plant materials, Significant genetic variation in O$_{3}$ responses was revealed by differences in sensitivies among clones.

Sycamore (Platanus occidentalis L.) seedlings were grown under low light intensity and ozone treatments to investigate the role of the light environment in their response to chronic ozone stress. One-year-old seedlings of Platanus occidentalis L. were grown in pots for 3 weeks under low light (OL, $150{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$) and high light (OH, $300{\mu}mol{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}s^{-1}$) irradiance in combination with 150 ppb of ozone fumigation. After three weeks of ozone and light treatment, seedlings were placed in ozone free clean chamber for 3 weeks for recovery from ozone stress with same light conditions to compare recovery capacity. Ozone fumigation determined an impairment of the photosynthetic process. Reduction of leaf dry weight (14%) and shoo/root ratio (17%) were observed in OH treatment. OL treatment also showed severe reductions in leaf dry weight and shoot/root ratio by 48% and 36% comparing to control, respectively. At the recovery phase, OH-treated plants recovered their biomass, whereas OL-treated plant showed reduction in leaf dry weight (52%) and shoot/root ratio (49%). OH-treated plants reached similar relative growth rate (RGR) comparing to control, whereas OL-treated plants showed lower RGR in stem height. However, there were no significant differences in response to those treatments in stem diameter RGR at the recovery phase. Ozone treatment produced significant reduction of net photosynthesis in both high and low light treatments. Carboxylation efficiency and apparent quantum yield in OL-treated plants showed significant reductions rate to 10% and 45%, respectively. At the recovery stage, ozone exposed seedlings under high light had similar photosynthetic capacity comparing to control plants. Antioxidant enzymes activities such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), ascorbate peroxidase (APX), and glutathione reductase (GR) were increased in ozone fumigated plants only under low light. The present work shows that the physiological changes occur in photosynthesis-related parameters and growth due to ozone and low light stress. Thus, low light seems to enhance the detrimental effects of ozone on growth, photosynthesis, and antioxidant enzyme responses.

This study was conducted to compare the physiological and biochemical responses of four Betula species in response to ozone, and to find out the relationship between ozone uptake rate and photosynthesis or antioxidant activity. One-year-old seedlings of four Betula sp, B. costata, B. davurica, B. platyphylla var, japonica, and B. ermani, exposed to 100 pub ozone concentration for 8h day$^{-1}$ for 5 weeks in fumigation chamber. Ozone uptake rate, photosynthesis, SOD and GR activity were measured in the leaves of four species once a week. Cumulative ozone uptake rate was largest in the loaves of B. costata(53.8 mmol m$^{-2}$ ), smallest in the leaves of B. davurica(35.5 mmol m$^{-2}$ ). Photosynthesis of four Betula sp. exposed to ozone reduced relative to control, but the photosynthetic responses with changing stomatal conductance were different among species. Ozone exposure increased SOD activities of four species at the early exposing period, but after a critical point SOD activity decreased gradually. GR activity of B. costata was similar to the change of SOD activity, but the others showed the different patterns from B. costata. In conclusion, decreasing both SOD and GR activity at the critical point, B. costata may be sensitive species in response to ozone. In contrast, the others may be resistant species, which gradually increase GR activity following ozone exposure. GR activity was not always in accord with the change of SOD activity against ozone uptake, and the different responses between species were supposed to be affected by the cumulative ozone uptake.
We studied on the decoloring effect of viscose rayon by vapor type ozone processing using ozone's strong oxidation. When ozone is generated, it becomes high concentration in vapor state, but in the insolving process with water, there are a lot of lose of ozone. As a result, a study using ozone in vapor-high concentration state is needed. So, in this paper, vapor type ozone processing is used unlike previous ozone treatment method-an aqueous solution method-to get a good effect from shortening the processing time. When vapor type ozone processing was directly treated to fabrics, high concentration ozone was generated then in a short time oxidized a dye existed in fabrics and finally decolored it. As vapor type ozone did not directly response to an organic dye, viscose rayon's decolorization was to be studied by changing pick up ratio(60%, 50%, 40%, 30%, 20%) using water as a medium. When pick up ratio of water was 40%, fabric's whiteness was improved but tensile strength and elongation were reduced. So 60 minutes was assumed as the most adjust time to minimize the reduction of fabric's tensile strength and elongation moreover of maximize the improvement of whiteness.

This study was conducted to compare the physiological and biochemical responses of P. orientalis and L. tulipifera in response to ozone. One-year-old seedlings of P. orientalis and L. tulipifera were exposed to 100 ppb ozone concentration for 2, 4, or 8 hr/day for 1 week. Photosynthesis, stomatal conductance and ozone uptake rate were measured daily, and chlorophyll fluorescence, carboxylation efficiency, chlorophyll content, and SOD activity were measured after 1 week. In P. orientalis, photosynthesis and stomatal conductance were not decreased in the 2h/day ozone treatment, but the L. tulipifera response was more sensitive even in the 2h/day ozone treatment. Increased treatment time decreased photosynthesis and stomatal conductance. Chlorophyll fluorescence was not significantly different among treatment times. However, carboxylation efficiency decreased with increased treatment time, and L. tulipifera was more sensitive than P. orientalis. Chlorophyll content did not differ with species or treatment time. SOD activity response was greater in L. tulipifera than in P. orientalis, increasing to $131\%$ of pretreatment observations. Therefore it was concluded that L. tulipifera was more responsive and had lower ozone tolerance than P. orientalis.
