오존발생을 위한 무성방전특성에 미치는 유전체의 영향 (Effect of Dielectric Materials on the Silent Discharge Characteristics for Ozone Generation)

  • Since the concept for the ozone generation using a nonequilibrium electric discharge techniques had been proposed by Siemens, some experimental and theoretical studies on the ozone generation by streamer corona discharge, surface discharge and silent discharge have been performed. In this paper some results on the discharge characteristics of the silent discharge gap with various dielectric materials were reported. Dielectric materials used in this study were pyrex glass, quartz and glass beefs with diameter of 1 mm.

  • Ozone has been widely applied to many industrial fields because of its strong oxidation effects. Therefore, the studies have been progressed for the effective and high concentration of one generation. The silent or surface discharge have been mainly used for high concentration ozone generation until now. But these two types of ozone generators have shortcomings to be improved. In this study, the ozone generator which improved the shortcomings of above two type of ozone generators was proposed and manufactured for high concentration ozone generation. And the proposed ozone generator could generate the surface and barrier discharge simultaneously. For this purpose, a mesh type discharge electrodes were proposed and the experiments were fulfilled as a function of the widths and spacings of mesh electrodes and gap spacings between the dielectric barrier and mesh electrode. When the width of mesh electrode[WM] and spacing of mesh electrode[SM] are 0.3[mm] and 0.8[mm] respectively, the maximum ozone concentration of 2.96[vol%] was obtained at 5.6[kV], 830[mA], gap spacing (S)=0.65[mm].

  • Recently, ozone is utilized in various fields and its needs are expanding. In this paper, glass and ceramic plate tyre ozonizer have been fabricated to investigate discharge parameter(input power, flow rate of supplied gas, electrode form, etc.) effect to discharge. And the conditions of discharge parameter have been investigated for optimum ozone generation. Ozone concentration is continuously increased with increasing input power for same discharge space, and ozone yield is also increased until maximum point after that it is saturated. Ozone concentration is inversely proportional to flow rate of supplied gas but ozone generation and ozone vield characteristics are improved.

  • Recently the ozone generation system is well used for cleaning the contaminated water by using the strong oxidization effects of ozone. Ozone generation system is composed of ozone generation device, air or oxygen supply device and high voltage apply device. In this paper, commercial frequency was applied to the wire typed conductor. The ozone concentration was measured with air or oxygen as a supplied gas, which can be used as basic data for the development of ozonizer system.

  • A silent type ozone generator using water surface has been studied and improved its ozone generation characteristics by the controlling the height of Taylor cone by installing a mesh electrode, a dielectric bed of glass beads in the just under th surface of the water. The current-voltage characteristics and characteristics of ozone generation quantity of the test system were investigated and discharge current oscillograms of the each cases of the mesh electrode and the beds were observed and compared each other to analyze the discharge conditions. The Taylor cone height could be the cause of the discharge bridge to decrease the ozone generation on the discharge spacing. In this study, the hight of Taylor cone could be reduced greatly by installing the mesh and the glass beads bed just under the water surface. Therefore a higher ozone generation also could be obtained.

  • 무성방전형 오존발생장치에서 고농도의 오존을 발생시키기 위해서는 방전공간의 온도를 낮게 유지시켜주는 것이 중요하다. 이때, 방전공간에서 발생된 열을 외부로 전달하기 위한 유전체장벽과 전극간의 접착물질과 접착방법은 전기적, 열적 관점에서 볼 때 방전에 큰 영향을 미치게 된다. 따라서 접착물질과 접착방법은 오존발생에 중요한 변수가 될 수 있다. 본 연구는 접착물질과 방법이 오존발생에 미치는 영향을 조사한 실험적인 결과이다. 접착물질의 종류로는 방열재료로 사용되는 실리콘 화합물질, 전기적인 도전성을 가지는 수지를 사용하였으며 이들의 물성변화를 위해 첨가물질로 차콜(charcoal)을 사용하였다. 결과적으로 접착물질(실리콘 화합물)이 사용되었을 때가 사용하지 않았을 때보다 같은 전압에서 많은 오존발생량을 보여주었다. 또한 접착물질이 사용되었을 때는 순수한 실리콘 화합물이 사용된 경우가 도전성을 가지는 접착물질이 사용되었을 때보다 많은 오존발생량을 보여주었다.

  • This paper is researched discharge and ozone generation characteristics of ozonizer using $Al_2O_3$ Ceramic dielectric. The discharge characteristics with variation of the discharge electrode area is studied. The characteristics of ozone concentration. ozone generation and ozone yield were measured to discharge power, discharge electrode area and supplied gas flux for oxygen and air. The solubility of ozone for water concentrations and ozone generations proportional to discharge power and discharge electrode area. Ozone yield has slowly increase with Increasing discharge power at high flow-rate. As the result, the maximum values of ozone characteristics ozone generation and ozone yield, can be obtained 5817[ppm] and 36[g/kWh]. We make enough the ozone concentration as the air in the home. An electric discharge electrode area is apt to shrink gradually into a miniaturization trend of the ozonizer but the enlargement of the occurrence flight of the electric discharge area gives the characteristic enhance the aid in the identity condition through the structure improvement.

  • The silent discharge is known to be one of the most effective methods for ozone generation. In this paper. in order to improve ozone concentration and energy yield, some kind of silent discharge-type reactors with different dielectric materials were prepared. Some silent discharge characteristics of these reactors were studied and discussed.

Effect of Gas Composition on Ozone Generation in Silent Discharge Process

  • The effect of gas composition on the discharge characteristics and the ozone production in silent discharge (SD) process was investigated. The major gas components, $N_2$, $O_2$, and $H_2O$ influence the discharge properties according to their relative magnitude of ionization thresholds and electron affinities. The generated amount of ozone increased with the discharge energy by increasing the electron mean energy. The higher oxygen content injected, the higher ozone produced. A small amount of water vapor significantly lowered the discharge onset voltage by the ionization threshold decreasing effect and high electrical conductivity. However, the further increase of water vapor contributes to decrease the electron density by the electron affinity The addition of water greatly reduced the ozone generation through the formation of OH radical and the catalytic ozone destruction process.
