In this study, a wet impregnation method was applied to catalysts based on the active metal Pt in order to confirm the oxidation characteristics of various commercial alumina supports at room temperature. The catalysts were characterized using XPS, CO-chemisorption, and BET. Various $Pt/Al_2O_3$ catalysts controlled the oxygen species of Pt by the electronegativity of electrons and charges when the catalyst was prepared according to the heat treatment conditions. The reason that the dispersion degree decreases with increasing Pt loading seems to be attributed to HT (Huttig Temperature) of Pt. In addition, the minimum hydrogen concentration that can be controlled at room temperature can control hydrogen from metallic Pt up to 1.0 vol% at over 70.09% in the catalyst.
The alkali refined rice bran oil (ARBO) and the esterified rice bran oil (ERBO) with glycerol were compared for their thermal stabilities at $150^{\circ}C$ and $180^{\circ}C$, respectively. The acid value gradually increased in ARBO during heating period but increased slowly in ERBO-2 and declined gradually in ERBO-1. The peroxide value was somewhat fluctuated during heating period, and the maximum peroxide value in all samples was 13.3 meq/kg. TBA value was sharply increased for the first 10 hr. heating and slowed down thereafter for all samples but ERBO were intensely colored after the heat treatment. The TG ratio of the oils after 90 hr. heating was not different at $150^{\circ}C$ but ERBO was 2-7% higher ratio of TG than ARBO at $180^{\circ}C$. The oxidative stability of ARBO was twice higher than ERBO according to the result of active oxygen test.
YBCO films deposited on MgO(100) and Si(100) by rf-magnetron sputtering using stoichiometric single target were annealed under oxygen atmosphere at $880^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr. The microstructure and superconducting properties of YBCO thin films depended on the composition of pre-annealed thin films. Basal planesuperconducting particles grown on MgO(100) substrate had small and rod-like shade due to preferred orientation, while superconducting film grown on the basal plane-superconducting particles showed round-shape particles. If pre-annealed thin film had nonstoichiometric composition, liquid phase was formed during the heat treatment, which made it easy for particles to grow in the preferred orientation and thus to form textured structure. But the thin films with the textured structure did not show good superconducting properties, especially $T_c$, since the liquid phase transformed into second phase in the grain boundary during the cooling. The effect of the second phase on $T_{c, \;zero}$ was greater than that on $T_{c, \;on}$.
With the object of developing a non-gap choke core, effects of annealing in oxygen atmosphere on magnetic properties for Fe$_{78}$Si$_{9}$B$_{13}$ amorphous alloy were investigated. After annealing for 2 hrs at 440 $^{\circ}C$, optimum magnetic properties for choke core were obtained, where the effective permeability was 180 and was almost constant up to several MHz, and the decrease in permeability upon large DC bias current of 12 A or DC bias magnetic field of 8,000 A/m was very little. Moreover the AC magnetic loss was very low as compared to the conventional choke cores. Upon the optimum annealing, the magnetic hysteresis loop was inclined accompanying the increase of coercive force and the appearance of fine crystallites of $\alpha$-Fe phase. The good choke core properties was considered to be due to the suppression of domain boundary motion and domain refinement by the crystallites.

Mutants of an obligate aerobic bacterium, Vitreoscilla, that have deficiency in heat-labile catalase-peroxidase hydroperoxidase I (HPI) were created by EMS treatment. The catalase-peroxidase HPI-deficient mutant showed substantially lower peroxidase activity in exponential and mid-stationary phase compared with the wild type strain. In late stationary phase, the mutant exhibited no peroxidase activity. Peroxidase deficiency in the mutant was revealed by polyacrylamide gels stained for peroxidase activity. Characteristically, catalase levels in the mutant increased about 14- and 8-fold during growth in the exponential and stationary phases, respectively, compared to those in the wild type, suggesting a compensatory effect for protection from $H_2O_2$ toxicity. The mutant showed differences in physiology from the wild type: retardation in growth rate and decrease in oxygen consumption. Both the wild type and the catalase-peroxidase HPI-deficient mutant of Vitreoscilla had lower growth rates in media containing increasing $H_2O_2$ concentrations. However, the mutant exhibited an additionally decreased growth rate after 6 to 8 h of growth compared to the wild type. The wild type was resistent up to 20 mM $H_2O_2$, whereas the mutant was very sensitive to high concentrations of exogenous $H_2O_2$. Although elevated catalase levels would provide protection of the bacteria from the deleterious effect of $H_2O_2$, it did not appear to be complete. Cell-free extracts of the mutant showed decreased NADH oxidation rates and higher accumulation of $H_2O_2$ during this oxidation. These results may account for the impaired growth and earlier onset of death phase by the catalase-peroxidase HPI-deficient mutant of Vitreoscilla.
In this study, we inserted a Zn buffer layer into a AZO/p-type a-si:H layer interface in order to lower the contact resistance of the interface. For the Zn layer, the deposition was conducted at 5 nm, 7 nm and 10 nm using the rf-magnetron sputtering method. The results were compared to that of the AZO film to discuss the possibility of the Zn layer being used as a transparent conductive oxide thin film for application in the silicon heterojunction solar cell. We used the rf-magnetron sputtering method to fabricate Al 2 wt.% of Al-doped ZnO (AZO) film as a transparent conductive oxide (TCO). We analyzed the electro-optical properties of the ZnO as well as the interface properties of the AZO/p-type a-Si:H layer. After inserting a buffer layer into the AZO/p-type a-Si:H layers to enhance the interface properties, we measured the contact resistance of the layers using a CTLM (circular transmission line model) pattern, the depth profile of the layers using AES (auger electron spectroscopy), and the changes in the properties of the AZO thin film through heat treatment. We investigated the effects of the interface properties of the AZO/p-type a-Si:H layer on the characteristics of silicon heterojunction solar cells and the way to improve the interface properties. When depositing AZO thin film on a-Si layer, oxygen atoms are diffused from the AZO thin film towards the a-Si layer. Thus, the characteristics of the solar cells deteriorate due to the created oxide film. While a diffusion of Zn occurs toward the a-Si in the case of AZO used as TCO, the diffusion of In occurs toward a-Si in the case of ITO used as TCO.
In this work, nano-sized M-ferrites (M=Co, Ni, Cu, Zn) for the decomposition of carbon dioxide were synthesized by the chemical co-precipitation. From the thermogravimetric analysis, it was clear that the maximum weight loss of each sample took place below $350^{\circ}C$. High temperature calcination resulted in more systematic crystallines, smaller specific surface area and larger particle size. An analysis by FTIR in the range of $375{\sim}406cm^{-1}$ revealed the presence of chelates at the octahedral site, which implies the formation of spinel structure in the ferrites. The current work showed that a $500^{\circ}C$ is the optimum heat treatment temperature of metal ferrites for $CO_2$ decomposition reaction.
Whole muskmelon was blanched at 50$^{\circ}C$ water for inhibition decline of fresh-cut melon quality from direct heat treatment. The muskmelon, after storage at 5$^{\circ}C$ for 24 hours, was processed to melon cylinders with 2 cm diameter. The changes of color, texture and the quality characteristics such as gas composition. soluble solid content, pH during storage at 5$^{\circ}C$ were measured. Degree of oxygen contents decreased and that of carbon dioxide in melon cylinder increased during storage. Especially, changes of gas composition inside packages appeared high level cor in blanched melon cylinders than non-treatment melons. Blanching with whole fruits at 50$^{\circ}C$ had effects on hardness in melon cylinder. Blanched melon, without regard on branching time, appeared higher hardness value than that of non-blanched melon at 6 days storage. There were slight difference between treatment on melon cylinder color. Degrees of change in soluble solid contents and pH on melon cylinder blanched at 50$^{\circ}C$ for 20minuets were lower than that of other treatments. In consequence, blanching with whole fruit at 50$^{\circ}C$ for 20minuets, before minimal processing, was effective in preserving of texture and quality of melon cylinder during storage.
This study was conducted for engineering optimization for the gasification process which is the key factor for success of Taean IGCC gasification plant which has been driven forward under the government support in order to expand to supply new and renewable energy and diminish the burden of the responsibility for the reduction of the green house gas emission. The gasification process consists of coal milling and drying, pressurization and feeding, gasification, quenching and HP syngas cooling, slag removal system, dry flyash removal system, wet scrubbing system, and primary water treatment system. The configuration optimization is essential for the high efficiency and the cost saving. For this purpose, it was designed to have syngas cooler to recover the sensible heat as much as possible from the hot syngas produced from the gasifier which is the dry-feeding and entrained bed slagging type and also applied with the oxygen combustion and the first stage cylindrical upward gas flow. The pressure condition inside of the gasifier is around 40~45Mpg and the temperature condition is up to $1500{\sim}1700^{\circ}C$. It was designed for about 70% out of fly ash to be drained out throughout the quenching water in the bottom part of the gasifier as a type of molten slag flowing down on the membrane wall and finally become a byproduct over the slag removal system. The flyash removal system to capture solid particulates is applied with HPHT ceramic candle filter to stand up against the high pressure and temperature. When it comes to the residual tiny particles after the flyash removal system, wet scurbbing system is applied to finally clean up the solids. The washed-up syngas through the wet scrubber will keep around $130{\sim}135^{\circ}C$, 40~42Mpg and 250 ppmv of hydrochloric acid(HCl) and hydrofluoric acid(HF) at maximum and it is turned over to the gas treatment system for removing toxic gases out of the syngas to comply with the conditions requested from the gas turbine. The result of this study will be utilized to the detailed engineering, procurement and manufacturing of equipments, and construction for the Taean IGCC plant and furthermore it is the baseline technology applicable for the poly-generation such as coal gasification(SNG) and liquefaction(CTL) to reinforce national energy security and create new business models.
Anaerobic digestion(AD) has successfully been used for many applications that have conclusively demonstrated its ability to recycle biogenic wastes. AD has been successfully applied in industrial waste water treatment, stabilsation of sewage sludge, landfill management and recycling of biowaste and agricultural wastes as manure, energy crops. During AD, i.e. organic materials are decomposed by anaerobic forming bacteria and fina1ly converted to excellent fertilizer and biogas which is primarily composed of methane(CH4) and carbon dioxide(CO2) with smaller amounts of hydrogen sulfide(H2S) and ammonia(NH3), trace gases such as hydrogen(H2), nitrogen(N2), carbon monoxide(CO), oxygen(O2) and contain dust particles and siloxanes. The production and utilisation of biogas has several environmental advantages such as i)a renewable energy source, ii)reduction the release of methane to the atomsphere, iii)use as a substitute for fossil fuels. In utilisation of biogas, most of biogas produced from small scale plant e.g. farm-scale AD plant are used to provide as energy source for cooking and lighting, in most of the industrialised countries for energy recovery, environmental and safety reasons are used in combined heat and power(CHP) engines or as a supplement to natural. In particular, biogas to use as vehicle fuel or for grid injection there different biogas treatment steps are necessary, it is important to have a high energy content in biogas with biogas purification and upgrading. The energy content of biogas is in direct proportion to the methane content and by removing trace gases and carbon dioxide in the purification and upgrading process the energy content of biogas in increased. The process of purification and upgrading biogas generates new possibilities for its use since it can then replace natural gas, which is used extensively in many countries, However, those technologies add to the costs of biogas production. It is important to have an optimized purification and upgrading process in terms of low energy consumption and high efficiency giving high methane content in the upgraded gas. A number of technologies for purification and upgrading of biogas have been developed to use as a vehicle fuel or grid injection during the passed twenty years, and several technologies exist today and they are continually being improved. The biomethane which is produced from the purification and the upgrading process of biogas has gained increased attention due to rising oil and natural gas prices and increasing targets for renewable fuel quotes in many countries. New plants are continually being built and the number of biomethane plants was around 100 in 2009.
