  • Indium tin oxide(ITO) thin film was deposited at room temperature on polycarbonate(PC) substrate by in-line sputter system. ITO sputtering process was carried out at a various pressure for the reduction of ion damage on PC substrate and the electrical and the optical properties of deposited ITO films were obtained and analyzed. From the experimental results, the sheet resistances of as-deposited ITO films varied with a different pressure and the optical transmittances at visible wavelength were maintained above 85%. The results are considered to be related to the pressure of oxygen atoms as a reaction gas.

  • Measuring of the dissolved oxygen is widely used for the environmental control of natural waters, sewage waste treatment, medical and biochemical studies, soil husbandry, food and drug process control, and prevention of corrosion in boilers. Especially, a power plants need special management for preventing accidents from corrosion, therefore, it is essential to measure the concentration of dissolved oxygen in real-time. In this paper we present a method of measuring dissolved oxygen very accurately up to pub units. This method, called polarograph method, is based on the measures of the electric current generated by the oxidation process in cathode and de-oxidation process in anode, assuming that the amount of the current is proportional to the density of dissolved oxygen.

  • We investigated optical emission of oxygen plasma discharged by 13.56 MHz radio frequency (rf) by using optical emission spectroscopy (OES). Experimental measurement is done at a range of oxygen flow rate of 1$\sim$20 seem, rf power of 25$\sim$250 W, and orifice 3 and 5 mm in diameter. When oxygen plasma was generated, typical emission spectra for oxygen plasma were observed regardless of diameter of orifice. Strong atomic emission lines are observe at 776.8 an 843.9 nm, corresponding to the $3p^{5}P-3s^{5}S^{0}$ and $3p^{3}P-3s^{3}S^{0}$ transitions, respectively. The emission intensity of line at 776.8 and 843.9 nm increased with increasing the oxygen flow rate and rf power. The increasing rate of emission intensity of 776.8 nm line was larger than that of 843.9 nm line. When the diameter of orifice was 3 mm, the oxygen plasma was more stably generated than orifice 5 mm in diameter.

  • The $Nd_{1+x}Ba_{2-x}Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$(Nd123) superconductor exhibits high performance in high magnetic field and high temperature. We have studied phase stability for Nd123 under reduced oxygen partial pressure and various heat-treatment conditions. The main phase is Nd123 and some samples contain small amounts of Nd422 depending on the temperature and oxygen partial pressure. The decomposition temperature decreases with decreasing oxygen partial pressure from $1052^{\circ}C(P(O_2)$=150 Torr) to about $845^{\circ}C(P(O_2)$=0.1 Torr). The liquidus line was steeper temperature with decreasing oxygen partial pressure. In same condition of oxygen partial pressure, the region of stable Nd123 phase was formed at slightly higher temperature than the region of stable YBCO phase.

  • The spreading fire of very small floating particles after they are ignited is fast and t therefore dangerous. The research on this area has been limited to experiments and global simulations which treat them as dusts or gaseous fuel with certain concentration well m mixed with air. This research attempted micro-scale analysis of ignition of those particles modeling them as liquid droplets. For the beginning, the in-line array of fuel droplets is modeled by two-dimensional, unsteady conservation equations for mass, momentum, energy and species transport in the gas phase and an unsteady energy equation in the liquid phase. They are solved numerically in a generalized non-orthogonal coordinate. The single step chemical reaction with reaction rate controlled by Arrhenius’ law is assumed to a assess chemical reaction numerically. The calculated results show the variation of temperature and the concentration profile with time during evaporation and ignition process. Surrounding oxygen starts to mix with evaporating fuel vapor from the droplet. When the ignition condition is met, the exothermic reactions of the premixed gas initiate a and burn intensely. The maximum temperature position gradually approaches the droplet surface and maximum temperature increases rapidly following the ignition. The fuel and oxygen concentration distributions have minimum points near the peak temperature position. Therefore the moment of ignition seems to have a premixed-flame aspect. After this very short transient period minimum points are observed in the oxygen and fuel d distributions and the diffusion flame is established. The distance between droplets is an important parameter. Starting from far-away apart, when the distance between droplets decreases, the ignition-delay time decreases meaning faster ignition. When they are close and after the ignition, the maximum temperature moves away from the center line of the in-line array. It means that the oxygen at the center line is consumed rapidly and further supply is blocked by the flame. The study helped the understanding of the ignition of d droplet array and opened the possibility of further research.

  • A novel control method with automatic tuning of PID controller parameters has been developed for efficient regulation of dissolved oxygen concentration in fed-batch fermentations of Escherichia coli. Agitation speed and oxygen partial pressure in the inlet gas stream were chosen to be the manipulated variables. A heuristic reasoning allowed improved tuning decisions from the supervision of control performance indices and it coule obviate the needs for process assumptions or disturbance patterns. The control input consisted of feedback and feedforword parts. The feedback part was determined by PID control and the feedforward part is determined from the feed rate. The proportional gain was updated on-line by a set of heuristics rules based on the supervision of three performance indices. These indices were output error covariance, the average value of output error, and input covariance, which were calculated on-line using a moving window. The integral and derivative time constants were determined from the period of output response. The specific growth rate was maintained at a low level to avoid acetic acid accumulation and thus to achieve a high cell density. The specific growthe rate was estimated from the carbon dioxide evolution rate. In fed-batch fermentation, the simutaneous control of dissolved oxygen concentration (at 0.2; fraction of saturated value) and specific growth rate (at 0.25$hr^{-1}$) was satisfactory for the entire culture period in spite of the changes in the feed rate and the switching of control input.

  • As a cryogen, LOx is a light blue, odorless, transparent liquid. Also it is not shock sensitive and does not decompose. However, it is a strong oxidizer and will vigorously support combustion. Therefore all harmful contaminants (such as grease, oil, fingerprint and organic materials) that could cause malfunctions, fires, or explosions in a oxygen environments must be completely removed prior to the introduction of oxygen. Especially, grease ingredient located inside of the LOx supply line, pipe and PHS (Pneumo-Hydraulic System) part can make drastic chemical reaction with oxygen. Therefore, to protect rapid reaction such as explosion, grease ingredient must be surely eliminated by a regular and irregular degreasing. Study on the availability, effectiveness and selection of degreasing detergents and method is described in this paper, and it will be useful for the construction and management of IPP test facility.

  • This paper presents an evaluation of stream restoration projects in Seoul with a focus on dissolved oxygen. Five test sites across four streams were measured for dissolved oxygen (DO) in late May to early June in 2012 and compared against a set of minimum and maximum thresholds. Only one test site, Hwarang-cheon, showed measurements below 6 mg/l DO. Towards the upper limit, the Hwarangcheon site was the only tested stream which was not at risk of DO supersaturation. The Danghyeon-cheon site had the highest probability of supersaturation, with DO saturation exceeding 130% expected 86.5% of the time. When measured every hour during daytime, DO levels showed diurnal variations, peaking in the afternoon. However, they showed inconsistent results along transects of the streams. Overall, the streams are rich in DO. To maintain the streams in good standing, nutrient loading should be addressed to prevent potential algal bloom induced hypoxic events down the line.

  • The fine $YBa_2Cu_3O_x$ powder ($0.2{\sim}1.0\;{\mu}m$) is produced by sol-gel method, and electrophoresis deposition is used for the preparation of $YBa_2Cu_3O_x$ thick films which are deposited on Ag wire. The oriented $YBa_2Cu_3O_x$ was tried to be prepared by the zone-melting method under low oxygen partial pressure. The orientation and the phase composition were examined by the X-ray diffraction and the superconductivities were measured by 4 line method. The critical current densities are still quite low, which may be due to unsuitable technical parameters for zone-melting of $YBa_2Cu_3O_x$ thick films. Therefore the heat treatment condition and controlling of low oxygen partial pressure should be improved in the future experiment.
