  • Study was focused on the effect of the cooling rate on the embrittlement behavior of Zircaloy-4 cladding simulated Loss Of Coolant Accident (LOCA) environment. Claddings were oxidized at given temperature and given time followed by various water quenching in the range of $0.6^{\circ}C$ and $100^{\circ}C$ per second. Cladding failed after water quenching above the threshold oxidation. Threshold oxidation was decreased as the cooling rate increased, which is due to the matensite structure formed during fast cooling rate.

  • The metal spray method, one of the surface anti-corrosion methods to prevent the corrosion of the steel material, does little effects on the material, while it can be used on a wider surface. However, metal spraying is used only in a limited environment, and research on the case of using with concrete is lacking. The purpose of this study was to observe the corrosion behavior of steels with metal spray coatings in concrete using electrochemical methods And to evaluate the performance of the method according to the type of metal used in the metal spray. As a result, the Al metal spray coating showed the best performance, because Aluminum is oxidized in the cement mortar and forms alumina oxide film.

  • This paper reports on the fabrication process and characteristics of a ceramic thin-film pressure sensor based on Ta-N strain-gauges for harsh environment applications. The Ta-N thin-film strain-gauges are sputter-deposited on a thermally oxidized micromachined Si diaphragms with buried cavities for overpressure tolerance. The proposed device takes advantage of the good mechanical properties of single-crystalline Si as a diaphragm fabricated by SDB and electrochemical etch-stop technology, and in order to extend the temperature range, it has relatively higher resistance, stability and gauge factor of Ta-N thin-films more than other gauges. The fabricated pressure sensor presents a low temperature coefficient of resistance, high-sensitivity, low non-linearity and excellent temperature stability. The sensitivity is 1.21 ~ 1.097 mV/V.kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ in temperature ranges of 25~ $200^{\circ}C$ and a maximum non-linearity is 0.43 %FS.

  • Tomato (Lycopersicon esculentum Mill) seedlings exposed to various concentrations of $CdCl_2(0{\sim}100{\mu}M)$ in a nutrient solution for up to 9 days were analyzed with respect to the thiol changes and oxidative stress. The Cd exposure increased total non-protein thiols (NPT) and cysteine in both leaves and roots, total glutathione in leaves, and the ratios of oxidized glutathione (GSSG)/reduced glutathione (GSH) in both leaves and roots, but decreased the ratio of dehydroascorbate (DASA)/ascorbate(ASA) in leaves. Our results suggest that the Cd-induced GSH depletion due to thiol synthesis and oxidation alters the antioxidant activity of seedlings for $H_2O_2$, and the subsequent $H_2O_2$ accumulationand oxidative stress result in phytotoxicity.

  • In order to establish the design parameters of adsorption for arsenic compounds with hydrotalcite including chlorine ion, the basic properties of adsorption and desorption as well as the oxidation of As (III) were examined in batch tests. The maximum adsorption capacities of arsenite and arsenate were 6.2 mg-As(III)/g and 103 mg-As (V)/g, respectively. Although 80.4% of maximum desorption was shown in 20% NaOH solution, 5~10% of NaOH was recommended considering operating benefits, where the proper condition of the desorption was in the range of 73% to 80%. The most suitable desorption condition was in the combination of NaCl (10~20%) and NaOH (5~10%). Within 2 minutes, As (III) was easily oxidized to As (V) with 0.0001 N KMnO4, where the maximum oxidization ratio was shown to 98.9%.

  • Study was focused on the quenching embrittlement property of Zircaloy-4 cladding simulated Loss Of Coolant Accident (LOCA) environment in terms of high temperature oxidation and phase transformation. Property in LOCA condition of advanced cladding that contained Nb element was also investigated. Claddings were oxidized at given temperature and given time followed by water quenching. The results showed that ${\beta}$ phase which formed at quenching stage has an influence on cladding property. In case of advanced cladding, Nb retards cladding oxidation, thus enhances quenching resistance.

  • The incidence of atherosclerosis is higher among patients with several autoimmune diseases such as psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). It is well documented that innate immune cells including macrophages and dendritic cells sense lipid species such as saturated fatty acids and oxidized low-density lipoprotein and produce pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. However, whether a hyperlipidemic environment also impacts autoimmune T cell responses has been unclear. Among $CD4^+$ T cells, Th17 and follicular helper T (Tfh) cells are known to play pathogenic roles in the development of hyperlipidemia-associated autoimmune diseases. This review gives an overview of the cellular and molecular mechanisms by which dysregulated lipid metabolism impacts the pathogenesis of autoimmune diseases, with specific emphasis on Th17 and Tfh cells.

  • The fragments of a wall painting excavated from among the historical remains of Jeseoksa Temple in Iksan. The extent of the damage to the fragments was examined and an analysis of the components of the pigment was conducted. The results of the component analysis of the pigment confirmed that the white pigment consisted of alkali feldspar and mullite. Although the results of the visual inspection revealed differences in color in the red and black pigments, the main component of the two colors was confirmed to be iron oxide. Red and black pigments are found at the same position. Although differences of color is obvious, those are identified as hematite and magnetite of oxidized steel's affiliation. It is judged that Differences of ingredients happened by external environment's factors.

  • Purpose - The purpose of this study is to promote sales of the renewable energy industry and to advance into the Southeast Asian market. Research design, data, and methodology - This study is to develop a highly efficient food waste treatment system for Southeast Asian renewable energy industry. The radiation treatment method was applied for this purpose. Results - To investigate effects of ionization on removal of non-degradable organic matter, the results from gamma irradiation and co-digestion process was compared to those from a co-digestion process. Based on the BMP test results, food wastes were oxidized by hydroxyl radicals, and the specific methane yield was 366 mL CH4/g VS. Methane composition was 82%. A WAS/food wastes co-digestion was developed for the treated of non-degradable organic matter in food wastes. The average efficiency of non-degradable organic matter were 92.2% using the food waste co-digestion. Conclusions - Performance of gamma irradiation and co-digestion process was superior to that of a co-digestion process (10-20%). This implies that food wastes can be high efficient co-digested by the gamma irradiation. It is believed that it will be possible to enter the Southeast Asian energy industry as a strategic technology in the overseas energy recovery industry.

  • Characteristics and advantages of the thermal desorption-comprehensive two dimensional gas chromatography-time of flight mass spectrometry (TD-GCxGC-TOFMS) were discussed and the organic compound's analysis result was shown for the ambient $PM_{2.5}$ sample collected in Seoul, Korea. Over 10,000 individual organic compounds were separated from about $70{\mu}g$ of aerosols in a single procedure with no sample pre-treatment. Among them, around 300 compounds were identified and classified based on the mass fragmentation patterns and GCxGC retention times. Several aliphatic compounds groups such as alkanes, alkenes, cycloalkanes, alkanoic acids, and alkan-2-ones were identified as well as 72 PAH compounds including alkyl substituted compounds and 8 hopanes. In Seoul aerosol, numerous oxidized aromatic compounds including major components of secondary organic aerosols were observed. The inventory of organic compounds in $PM_{2.5}$ of Seoul, Korea suggested that organic aerosol were constituted by the compounds of primary source emission as well as the formation of secondary organic aerosols.
