Various methods have been used on patients with skeletal Class II division 1 malocclusion. The activator, Frankel appliance, headgear, Herbst appliance, and Twin-block appliance are some examples. The ideal treatment effect using these appliances would be to inhibit horizontal and vertical growth of the maxilla while promoting mandibular growth and obtaining optimum dentition. The Teuscher appliance has a simultaneous combined headgear effect with maxillary growth inhibition and an activator effect with mandibular growth promotion. The purpose of this study was to examine how well these effects were clinically obtained and the results are as follows. 1. The forward growth of the maxilla was effectively inhibited. 2. The downward-forward growth of the maxillary dentoalveolar complex was inhibited. 3. Growth promotion of the mandible was not observed. 4. The overjet, overbite, molar key were effectively improved. 5. The protruded upper lip and facial profile were unproved.

Positions, angulation and mesiodistal dimension of lower incisors are important in esthetics, occlusion and post-treatment stability of tower arch. When lower incisor is congenitally missing, problems such as increased overjet and overbite, closing in of adjacent teeth and size/space discrepancies may occur. When creating treatment plans, incisor position and angulation, lip support, anteroposterior skeletal relationship canine-molar relationship, overjet overbite, remaining growth potential, crowding and anterior tooth ratio have to be considered. For an accurate analysis of incisal size discrepancy, diagnostic model set-up may be helpful. The two patients in this presentation both had two lower incisor missing, but the degree of crowding, skeletal relationship, lip support, molar relationship are different and therefore treatment plan was different as well. Long term follow-up may be necessary for stability and retention.

This study was performed to establish the cephalometric standards and to compare measurement of Korean children in the Field I, II, III, IV, V, VI to Japanese and Caucasians by the Ricketts' analysis. Lateral cephalograms of 24 males and 27 females with normal occlusion and acceptable profile 9 years of age were obtained and statistically analyzed. 1. Norms of Korean males, females and both sexes at 9 years old were established. 2. Significant differences between male and female exist in incisor overjet, maxillary incisor protrusion, mandibular incisor inclination, cranial deflection, corpus length. Maxillary incisor of male was more protrude and overjet was larger than female 3. Korean was similar to Japanese but different from Caucasian. Compare with facial axis and facial depth, chin was retruded dolichofacial pattern and due to large mandibular plane angle and small corpus length, mandibular plane was inclined and mandible body was short. Compare with porion location, ramus position and posterior facial height, ramus was long and located posterior. Compare with maxillary depth and maxillary height, maxilla was located posterior and inferior. The distance between the upper molar and PTV was short, the amount of distalization is limited. Maxillary and mandibular incisor were more protruded and also lower lip was more protruded to esthetic line 4. In comparison between 9 and 11 years old, growth changes of facial depth, mandibular plane angle, corpus length and upper molar position were larger than that of Japanese and Caucasians.
The stable occlusion in function is thought as important as the esthetics in form, in order to preserve the healthy oral condition. The stable occlusion requires the harmony between the condylar guidance factors and the anterior guidance factors. The aim of this study was to evaluate the quantitative relationship between the condylar guidance factors and the anterior guidance factors, estimating statistically the measurement of the condylar paths by Pantronic and those of the anterior guidance factors, craniofacial morphology by roentgenocephalometry in 46 relatively good functional occlusion. The results of this study were as follows. 1. The measurements of the protrusive condylar path inclinations were $36.41^{\circ}$ in the right, $35.63^{\circ}$ in the left, $36.28^{\circ}$ in the mean. The measurements of Fisher's angles were $8.17^{\circ}$ in the right, $6.43^{\circ}$ in the left, $6.87^{\circ}$ in the mean. 2. The anterior facial height and the lower anterior facial height made a negative correlation with the protrusive condylar path inclination. 3. The articular eminence angle relative to the artificial articulator plane showed a positive correlation with the maximum protrusive condylar path. 4. SNA and SNB made a negative correlation with the articular eminence angle, and AAP-GoMe, AAP-DcGn, the facial height ratio had a positive correlation with the articular eminence angle. 5. The angulation of maxillary incisor lingual slope, overbite and the ratio of overbite to overiet showed a positive correlation with the articular eminence angle. 6. The angulation of maxillary incisor lingual slope , overbite, and the ratio of overbite to overjet made a positive correlation with the inclination of occlusal plane, functional occlusal plane. 7. Overbite and the ratio of overbite to overjet had a positive correlation with the angulation of maxillary incisor lingual slope. 8. The anterior guidance factors were more influenced by the mean protrusive condylar path inclination and the maximum Fisher's angle, and the regression equations of those were made.

Objective: This study aimed to identify possible risk factors for external apical root resorption (EARR) in the maxillary incisors after orthodontic treatment. Methods: The root length of 2,173 maxillary incisors was measured on periapical radiographs of 564 patients who received orthodontic treatment. The Kappa test was performed to evaluate intraexaminer and interexaminer reproducibility. Multiple binary logistic regression was used to determine the association between EARR and various factors. Odds ratios and 95% confidence intervals were reported. Results: The risk of developing EARR was 70% higher in orthodontic treatment with maxillary premolar extraction (p = 0.004), 58% higher in patients with increased overjet (p = 0.012), 41% lower in two-phase orthodontic treatment (p = 0.037), and 33% lower in patients with deep bite (p = 0.039). The lateral incisors were 54% more likely to develop EARR (p < 0.001), dilacerated roots were 2.26 times more likely to develop EARR (p < 0.001), and for each additional millimeter of root length, the risk of EARR increased by 29% (p < 0.001). Conclusions: The potential risk factors for EARR after orthodontic treatment included treatment with maxillary premolar extraction, increased overjet at the beginning of treatment, and dilacerated roots.
Background: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of a prefabricated functional appliance (Myobrace®) on skeletal, dental, and soft tissue components in children with Class II, division 1 malocclusion. Methods: Thirteen patients with Class II, division 1 malocclusion (9 girls and 4 boys; mean age, 8.2±0.9 years at the start and 9.3±1.0 years at the end of the treatment) were treated with Myobrace® for a mean period of 12.9±4.0 months. Patients were instructed to use the appliance daily for 1 hour and overnight while sleeping. A control group of 10 patients with untreated Class II, division 1 malocclusion (3 girls and 7 boys; mean age, 9.0±1.6 years at the start and 10.4±2.1 years at the end of the observation) was included to eliminate possible growth effects. The mean observation period for this group was 17.7±11.2 months. Lateral cephalograms were taken at the start and end of the treatment, and findings from 41 measurements were analyzed using the V-CephTM program. The mean and standard deviation of cephalometric measurements were analyzed using paired and independent sample t-tests. Results: The treatment group showed significant changes in SNB, ANB, maxillary protrusion, ramus height, proclination of upper anterior teeth, interincisal angle, overjet, and upper lip protrusion compared with the control group. However, only decrease in ANB, maxillary protrusion, overjet, upper lip protrusion, and increase in interincisal angle were significantly higher in the treatment group than in the control group. Conclusion: The prefabricated functional appliance induced skeletal, dentoalveolar, and soft tissue changes, resulting in a significant reduction in anteroposterior discrepancy.
The patient, 18-year-old girl, had a class III malocclusion with the lateral compression of the maxilla due to the premature loss of the canines, mild mandibular prognathism, and mouth breathing habit. The treatment plan consisted of 1) rapid maxillary expansion 2) a period of retention 3) extraction of the first mandibular premolars instead of surgical correction 4) completion of orthodontic treatment with multibanded system. The maxilla was separated in the midline by the application of orthopedic forces via a cemented rapid maxillary expansion device. After 18 months, She gained functional overbite-overjet relationship, good interdigitation of buccal segments, and facial harmony due to the retraction of lower anterior teeth.
A 23 year-old female with skeleto-dentoalveolar protrusion of maxilla, minor broken contact points between anterior teeth, and missing of lower 1st molars, has been treated with multibanded edgewise technique. After treatment of 14 months, she has gained functional overbite-overjet relationship and facial harmony due to the retraction of upper anterior teeth. Root resorption was slight. Especially, us ing the space of missed lower 1st molars instead of extracting lower premolars, expected and favorable results were obtained.
This study was undertaken to find out the characteristic craniofacial morphology of Class II Division 2 malocclusions in children by means of roentgenocephalometry. The subjects consisted of twelve boys and thirteen girls with Class Ii, Division 2, thirty seven boys and fifty three girls with Class II, Division 1, and forty six boys and eighty one girls with normal occlusion, ranged from 10 years old to 18 years old. The following results were obtained; 1. The anteroposterior relationship of the maxilla to the cranium in the Class II, Division 2 malocclusion similar to the normal occlusion, but the mandible was the posterior position in th the cranial anatomy. 2. There were no significant differences in the anteroposterior relationship of the maxilla and the mandible between Class II, Division 1 and Class II, Division 2 malocclusions. 3. In Class II, Division 1 the axes of maxillary incisors showed labial inclination, but lingual inclination in Class II, Division 2 malocclusions. 4. Overbite was prominent one in Class II, Division 2, on the other hand overjet was distinguished in Class II, Division 1.

381 students including elementary school boys 75, girls 76 & middle school boys 115, girls 115 were examined to study the factors of dental esthetic self-evaluation: as measured by questionnaire & dental examination. The following results were obtained: 1. In the case of the girls, the more severely rotated or displaced the upper anterior teeth were, the uglier they felt themselves. 2. The students showed the tendency to answer that they were satisfied or had no feeling one way or the other even though their teeth were less straight than others. 3. Most of the students could not relate their teeth to the over-all facial appearance. 4. In the case of the elementary-school-boys, they felt themselves ugly when the overjet & overbite were excessive: in the case of the middle-school-girls, they felt themselves ugly when the rotation & displacement of the upper & lower anterior teeth were severe. 5. Angle's classification showed no statistical significancy.
