A purpose of this visual experiment is to investigate the effect of reduced frequency qualitatively by examining wake pattern change for insect flying motion. Insect is composed of two pair wing with forewing and hindwing, flying motion of insect is performed pitching and plunging so it makes a separation over the wings. The separation affects at the wake pattern and changed wake pattern has an influence on lift, drag and propulsion. This experiment is conducted by using a smoke wire technique and a camera is fixed at hindwing to take a photograph of wake. An electronic device is mounted below test section to find exact the mean positional angle of wing. The reduced frequency in experiment is 0.15, 0.3 and 0.45. We obtained the result which that reduced frequency is closely related to wake pattern that determines flight efficiency.
This study aims to improve the fit of high school girls' uniforms. This study researched on the fit of the recent high school girls' uniforms and developed a sizing system that adequately reflects their body figures. The results are as follows. First, the research showed that over 50% of the highschool girls wore their blouses too tight, whereas over 60% of the girls wore skirts that were appropriately fitted. Second, to classify the high school girls' figures, factor analysis and cluster analysis were conducted. 5 factors were extracted for upper body and 3 factors for the lower body. The girls were then divided into 3 groups for the upper body and 4 groups for the lower body. Third, KS size intervals were used for frequency distribution of height and bust for the bodice, height and waist for the lower body. Sizing system of the uniform company and the frequency distribution of sizes were compared. As a result, sizing system of the uniform company and the frequency distribution slightly overlapped. Fourth, sizing system considering body type distribution and high frequency distribution section of sizes was suggested. As a result, for the upper body, when 6 sizes were suggested, 43.9% of the population was covered and when 11 sizes were suggested, 58.3% was covered. For the lower body, when 6 sizes were suggested, 32.2% was covered, and when 11 sizes were suggested 58.9% of the population was covered.
In this paper, RCS characteristics on defect pattern of crossed dipole slot FSS having a finite size have been analyzed. To analyze RCS, we applied the electric field integral equation analysis which applies BiCGSTab algorithm with iterative method and uses RWG basis function. To verify the validity of this paper, RCS of PEC sphere has been compared to the theoretical results and FSSs with defect patterns are fabricated and measured. As defect patterns in FSS, missing one column, missing some elements, and discontinuity in surfaces are simulated and compared with the measurement results. Resonant frequency shifts in pass band and changes in bandwidth are observed. From the results, precisely predicting and designing frequency characteristics over defect patterns are essential when applying FSS structures such as FSS radomes.

A novel multi-section power divider configuration is proposed to obtain wide-band frequency performance up to microwave frequency region. Design procedures for the proposed microwave broadband power divider are composed of a planar multi-section three-ports hybrid and a waveguide transformer design procedures. The multi-section power divider is based on design theory of the optimum quarter-wave transformer. Furthermore, in order to obtain the broadband isolation performance between the two adjacent output ports, the odd mode equivalent circuit should be matched by using the lossy element such as resistor. The derived design formula for calculating these odd mode matching elements is based on the singly terminated filter design theory. The waveguide transformer section is designed to suppress the propagation of the higher order modes such as waveguide modes due to employing the metallic electric wall. Thus, each section of the designed waveguide transformer should be operated with evanescent mode over the whole design frequency band of the proposed microwave broadband power divider. This paper presents several simulations and experimental results of multi-section power divider to show validity of the proposed microwave broadband power divider configuration. Simulation and experiment show excellent performance of multi section power divider.
The results of study on the active control of naturally occurring combustion oscillations with a single dominant frequency in an atmospheric dump combustor are presented. Control was achieved by an oscillatory infection of secondary fuel at the dump plane. A high speed solenoid valve with a maximum frequency of 250Hz was used as the actuator and a sound level meter, located at the combustor exit, measured the pressure fluctuations which served as the feedback signal for the control loop. Instability characteristics were mapped over a range of mean mixing section velocities from 6.7 m/s-9.3 m/s and with three mixing conditions. Different fuel/air mixing conditions were investigated by introducing varying percentages of primary fuel at two locations, one at the entrance to the mixing section and one 6 mixing tube diameters upstream of the dump plane. Control studies were conducted at a mean velocity of 9.3 m/s, with an air temperature of $415^{\circ}C$, and from flame blowout to the stoichiometric condition.

The investigations for mitigating wind-induced excitations of tall buildings have been carried out. The aerodynamic modification of a building shape changing the cross-section with height through tapering, which alters the flow pattern around the building, could reduce wind induced excitations of tall buildings. The fart that a tapered tall building might spread the vortex-shedding over a broad range of frequencies makes more effective for reducing acrosswind responses has been established. In this paper, to investigate the tapering effect for reducing wind-induced responses of a tapered tall building, high-frequency force-balance test was conducted. The six types of building models which have different taper ratio of 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, 10%, 15% and one basic building model of a square cross-section were tested under the two typical boundary layers representing suburban and urban flow environment. The effect of wind direction was also considered.

A design problem is studied for a nonuniform transmission line (NUTL) section to be inserted between an arbitrary source impedance and an arbitary load impedance for the purpose of impedance matching or providing a minimum input reflection coefficient over a frequency ranee as wide as possible. A special class of NUTL's, yet comprehensive enough to include almost all smoothly varying lines, are considered. Power series expansions of the ABCD parameters of such lines are used in the calculation of the input reflection coefficient. The design problem is formulated as a nonlinear programming problem withnonlinear constraints and is solved by a combined use of the sequential unconstrained minimization technique and tile Fletcher-Powell method. As a result, a line section was obtained which shows a marked improvement over any one hitherto published as a wide-band impedance matching device.
Simulated annealing is an attractive, but expensive, heuristic method for approximating the solution to combinatorial optimization problems. Attempts to parallel simulated annealing, particularly on distributed memory multicomputers, are hampered by the algorithm's requirement of a globally consistent system state. In a multicomputer, maintaining the global state S involves explicit message traffic and is a critical performance bottleneck. To mitigate this bottleneck, it becomes necessary to amortize the overhead of these state updates over as many parallel state changes as possible. By using this technique, errors in the actual cost C(S) of a particular state S will be introduced into the annealing process. This paper places analytically derived bounds on this error in order to assure convergence to the correct optimal result. The resulting parallel simulated annealing algorithm dynamically changes the frequency of global updates as a function of the annealing control parameter, i.e. temperature. Implementation results on an Intel iPSC/2 are reported.
An analytical procedure based on the transfer matrix method to estimate not only the natural frequencies but also vibration mode shapes of the thin-walled members composed of interconnected cylindrical shell panels is presented. The transfer matrix is derived from the differential equations for the cylindrical shell panels. The point matrix relating the state vectors between consecutive shell panels are used to allow the transfer procedures over the cross section of the members. As a result, the interactions between the shell panels of the cross sections of the members can be considered. Although the transfer matrix method is naturally a solution procedure for the one-dimensional problems, this method is well applied to thin-walled members by introducing the trigonometric series into the governing equations of the problem. The natural frequencies and vibration mode shapes of the thin-walled members composed of number of interconnected cylindrical shell panels are observed in this analysis. In addition, the effects of the number of shell panels on the natural frequencies and vibration mode shapes are also examined.
