Kernel density estimation is a prevalent technique employed for nonparametric density estimation, enabling direct estimation from the data itself. This estimation involves two crucial elements: selection of the kernel function and the determination of the appropriate bandwidth. The selection of the bandwidth plays an important role in kernel density estimation, which has been developed over the past decade. A range of methods is available for selecting the bandwidth, including the plug-in bandwidth. In this article, the proposed plug-in bandwidth is introduced, which leverages shifted Chebyshev series-based approximation to determine the optimal bandwidth. Through a simulation study, the performance of the suggested bandwidth is analyzed to reveal its favorable performance across a wide range of distributions and sample sizes compared to alternative bandwidths. The proposed bandwidth is also applied for kernel density estimation on real dataset. The outcomes obtained from the proposed bandwidth indicate a favorable selection. Hence, this article serves as motivation to explore additional plug-in bandwidths that rely on function approximations utilizing alternative series expansions.

The resonant mechanism of reradiation interference (RRI) over 1.7MHz from power transmission lines cannot be obtained from IEEE standards, which are based on researches of field intensity. Hence, the resonance is ignored in National Standards of protecting distance between UHV power lines and radio stations in China, which would result in an excessive redundancy of protecting distance. Therefore, based on the generalized resonance theory, we proposed the idea of applying model-based parameter estimation (MBPE) to estimate the generalized resonance frequency of electrically large scattering objects. We also deduced equation expressions of the generalized resonance frequency and its quality factor Q in a lossy open electromagnetic system, i.e. an antenna-transmission line system in this paper. Taking the frequency band studied by IEEE and the frequency band over 1.7 MHz as object, we established three models of the RRI from transmission lines, namely the simplified line model, the tower line model considering cross arms and the line-surface mixed model. With the models, we calculated the scattering field of sampling points with equal intervals using method of moments, and then inferred expressions of Padé rational function. After calculating the zero-pole points of the Padé rational function, we eventually got the estimation of the RRI’s generalized resonant frequency. Our case studies indicate that the proposed estimation method is effective for predicting the generalized resonant frequency of RRI in medium frequency (MF, 0.3~3 MHz) band over 1.7 MHz, which expands the frequency band studied by IEEE.

A blind-mode integer frequency offset estimation algorithm is proposed for an OFDM system. Imperfect integer frequency offset estimation causes ambiguity in the data sub-carrier position. Morelli's blind integer frequency offiet estimation algorithm exploits the likelihood function by comparing the power in sub-carriers. It, however, shows performance degradation when there is the fractional frequency offset. The proposed algorithm solves this by using interpolation in the frequency domain. In this algorithm, it is exploited that the effect of the frequency offset is shown as a shift of power spectrum. By calculating the covariance of over-sampled samples, most approximate samples to integer point are obtained. It enables integer frequency offset estimation less affected by fractional frequency offset.

A fully automated cost estimation system(FACES) has been developed. Since speed, accuracy, and consistency are essential factors in automating a cost estimation, the use of computers in cost estimation system(CES) has grown rapidly in the last few years. FACES is a micro computer based cost estimation system that employs a manufacturing knowledge base. A Group Technology(GT) based part classification and coding(C&C) scheme is used to automate the process planning aspects of cost estimation. Variant process planning methods are employed to generate workstation routings from form features of the part. The system has been tested for an assembly of six machined parts. Results indicate that the system could provide a substantial improvement in accuracy, productivity, and performance over the more traditional full dialog approach to cost estimation. It also provides a good foundation for a factory automation by using a common GT based database through design to production.

This paper shows accuracy comparison results of reliability estimation methods for one-shot systems with respect to sample sizes. To compare accuracy in reliability estimation methods, quantal-response data, characterizing one-shot systems, were simulated using failure times of LED obtained through the accelerated life test, and then the true reliability over time was evaluated using the failure times. The simulated quantal-response data were used to estimate the true reliability through applying reliability estimation methods in open literature. Accuracy of each reliability estimation method was compared in terms of both SSE (Sum of Squared Error) and MSE (Mean Squared Error), and then estimation trend for each method is found. Feasible bounds which true reliability would exist within were estimated through applying the found trends to quantal-response data set of a real weapon system.

In this paper, we propose a new channel estimation scheme for amplify and forward cooperative diversity with relay selection. In order to select best relay, it is necessary to know channel state information (CSI) at the destination. Most of the previous works, however, assume that perfect CSI is available at the destination. In addition, when the number of relay is increased it is difficult to estimate CSI through all relays within coherence time of a channel because of the large amount of frame overhead for channel estimation. In a proposed channel estimation scheme, each terminal has distinct pilot signal which is orthogonal each other. By using orthogonal property of pilot signals, CSI is estimated over two pilot signal transmission phases so that frame overhead is reduced significantly. Due to the orthogonal property among pilot signals, estimation error does not depend on the number of relays. Simulation result shows that the proposed channel estimation scheme provides accurate CSI at the destination.
Improving voice quality is a major concern in telecommunications. In this paper, we propose a robust speech quality enhancement against background noise and packet loss at VoIP (Voice-over-IP) receiver. The proposed method combines network jitter estimation based on hybrid Markov chain, adaptive playout scheduling using the estimated jitter, and speech enhancement based on restoration of amplitude and phase to enhance the quality of the speech signal arriving at the VoIP receiver over IP network. The experimental results show that the proposed method removes the background noise added to the speech signal before encoding at the sender side and provides the enhanced speech quality in an unstable network environment.
In this thesis, a new channel estimation technique is proposed for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) over time varying channels. The channel estimation algorithm exploits the fact that the estimated channel impulse response (CIR) by using pilot signal is the average value of the CIR variation within an OFDM symbol period. With this fact, the CIR variation is simply estimated through lowpass interpolation of the CIRs of the adjacent OFDM symbols. For signal detection, a time domain equalizer is used in this thesis. Simulation results show that the proposed system improves the bit error rate (BER) over time varying channels.
In this paper, a platoon merging is considered as a remote-controlled system with the state represented by a stochastic process. In this system, it becomes to encounter situations where a single decision maker controls a large number of subsystems, and observation and control signals are sent over a communication channel with finite capacity and significant transmission delays. Unlike classical estimation problem in which the observation is a continuous process corrupted by additive noise, there is a constraint that the observation must be coded and transmitted over a digital communication channel with finite capaci쇼. A recursive coder-estimator sequence is a state estimation scheme based on observations transmitted with finite communication capacity constraint. Using the coder-estimator sequence, the remote control station designs a feedback controller. In this paper, we introduce a stochastic model for the lead vehicle in a platoon of vehicles considering the angle between a road surface and a horizontal plane as a stochastic process. The simulation results show that the inter-vehicle distance and the deviation from the desired inter-vehicle distance are well regulated.
We present here, some of the studies carried for estimation of rainfall over land and oceanic regions in and around South Korea. We use active and passive microwave measurements from TRMM - TMI and Precipitation Radar (PR) respectively during a typhoon even named - RUSA that took place during 30 Aug. 2002. We have followed due approach by Yao at. all (2002) and examined the performance of their algorithm using two main predictor variable, named as Scattering Index (SI) and Polarization Corrected Brightness Temperature (PCT) while using TMI data. The rainfall rate estimated using PCT and SI shows some under-estimation as compared to the AWS rainfall products from the PR in common area of overlap. A larger database thus would be used in future. To establish a new rain rate algorithm over Korean region based on the present case study.
