In this paper, an inter-orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) sub-carrier distortion due to fiber chromatic dispersion is investigated. The fiber chromatic dispersion induces phase difference among OFDM sub-carriers, resulting in non-symmetric peak to average power ratio (PAPR) inducing inter-OFDM distortion. Experiments to confirm the fiber dispersion are performed in a direct-detection optical front-haul link. Quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) encoded OFDM symbols at 25 Gbit/s are transmitted over 100 km fiber and the resulting error vector magnitude (EVM) of 40 % is observed.
To improve concrete quality one of the most widely used chemical admixtures is polycarboxylate type superplasticizer. Unlike lignosulfonate and naphthalene-sulfonate, it has high dispersion property and excellent sustainable dispersion property for cement and concrete. Thus, polycarboxylate type superplasticizer has been widely used as a high-performance water reducing admixture together with silica fume in high-performance concrete and other applications for the dispersion of high-strength concrete over 100 MPa. However, even though there have been many studied on the dispersion of concrete by the structure of polycarboxylate type superplasticizer, there have a few studied that clarified the relationships between its rheological properties and microstructure properties in the early hydration behavior of ordinary portland cement. To investigate the correlations between the rheological properties and microstructure of cementitious materials with polycarboxylate type superplasticizer, this study experimented on the rheology, pore structure, heat evolution, and consistency in early hydration as well as on the compressive strength by early dispersion characteristics.
The governing equations of atmospheric dispersion most often taking the form of a second-order partial differential equation (PDE). Currently, typical computational codes for predicting atmospheric dispersion use the Gaussian plume model that is an analytic solution. A Gaussian model is simple and enables rapid simulations, but it can be difficult to apply to situations with complex model parameters. Recently, a method of solving PDEs using artificial neural networks called physics-informed neural network (PINN) has been proposed. The PINN assumes the latent (hidden) solution of a PDE as an arbitrary neural network model and approximates the solution by optimizing the model. Unlike a Gaussian model, the PINN is intuitive in that it does not require special assumptions and uses the original equation without modifications. In this paper, we describe an approach to atmospheric dispersion modeling using the PINN and show its applicability through simple case studies. The results are compared with analytic and fundamental numerical methods to assess the accuracy and other features. The proposed PINN approximates the solution with reasonable accuracy. Considering that its procedure is divided into training and prediction steps, the PINN also offers the advantage of rapid simulations once the training is over.
The utilization of outpatient care services involves two steps of sequential decisions. The first step decision is about whether to initiate the utilization and the second one is about how many more visits to make after the initiation. Presumably, the initiation decision is largely made by the patient and his or her family, while the number of additional visits is decided under a strong influence of the physician. Implication is that the analysis of the outpatient care utilization requires to specify each of the two decisions underlying the utilization as a distinct stochastic process. This paper is concerned with the number of physician visits, which is, by definition, a discrete variable that can take only non-negative integer values. Since the initial visit is considered in the analysis of whether or not having made any physician visit, the focus on the number of visits made in addition to the initial one must be enough. The number of additional visits, being a kind of count data, could be assumed to exhibit a Poisson distribution. However, it is likely that the distribution is over dispersed since the number of physician visits tends to cluster around a few values but still vary widely. A recently reported study of outpatient care utilization employed an analysis based upon the assumption of a negative binomial distribution which is a type of overdispersed Poisson distribution. But there is an indication that the use of Poisson distribution making adjustments for over-dispersion results in less loss of efficiency in parameter estimation compared to the use of a certain type of distribution like a negative binomial distribution. An analysis of the data for outpatient care utilization was performed focusing on an assessment of appropriateness of available techniques. The data used in the analysis were collected by a community survey in Hwachon Gun, Kangwon Do in 1990. It was observed that a Poisson regression with adjustments for over-dispersion is superior to either an ordinary regression or a Poisson regression without adjustments oor over-dispersion. In conclusion, it seems the most approprite to assume that the number of physician visits made in addition to the initial visist exhibits an overdispersed Poisson distribution when outpatient care utilization is studied based upon a model which embodies the two-part character of the decision process uderlying the utilization.

In this paper, we report that the differences between RF power levels can be improved in wavelength division multiplexing - radio over fiber (WDM-RoF) system by using a photonic crystal fiber. In a WDM-RoF system, each WDM channel experiences different received RF power level fluctuation in remote node (RN) because of wavelength-dependent dispersion. Since each WDM channel experiences different power fluctuation, the RF power fluctuation acts as a design constraint in viewpoint of network design. We designed a photonic crystal fiber to improve the effect of wavelength- dependent dispersion on RF power fluctuation. Also, we analyzed the wavelength-dependent difference of inter-channel RF power fluctuations.

According to the returns of Housing and business cycle over the period 1992 to 2007, it is a measure of the total volatility faced by investors in Housing properties. First, it isn't a distinct difference from business cycle contrary to U.S. Second, the rise of purchase price in total apartments moves up the consumer price index. According to the cross-sectional dispersion of returns and growth in net operating income (NOI) of apartments, industrial, retail and office properties using panel data for U.S. metropolitan areas over the period 1986 to 2002, it is a measure of the total volatility faced by investors in commercial real estate. To the extent that most of that volatility is difficult to diversify, cross-sectional dispersion may be an appropriate measure of risk.

A novel plasma system has been developed for 3-dimensional modification of the carbon nano-powders. Improvement of dispersion of these nano materials are studied by plasma discharge, not using chemical modification. The plasma process is considered to great advantages over wet chemical process due to environmental, economic viewpoint, and uniformity over the treated volume. The uniform dispersion is a critical factor for these material's nano composite applications. Using this plasma system, graphene, carbon black, and CNT was treated and functionalized. Several key discharge conditions such as Ar/H2/O2 or Ar/H2/NH3 gas ratio, treatment time, power, feeder's vibration frequency are investigated. Hydrophobic of graphene has turned some more into hydrophilic by reaction test with water, electrophoresis, surface contact angle test, and turbidity analysis. The oxygen content ratio in the plasma treated CNT has increased about 3.7 times than the untreatedone. In the case of graphene and carbon black, the oxygen- and nitrogen- content has been enhanced average 10%. O-H (N-H) peak, C-O (C-N) peak, and C=O (C=N) peak data have been detected by FTIR measurement and intensified compared to before-plasma treatment due to O2 or NH3 content.

A linearly-chirped fiber grating for the dispersion compensation over 520km of 1.3.mu.m single mode fiber is designed. The compensation characteristics of the gratings apodized each with Gaussian and hyperbolic tangent function are studied. the ripples in reflection and delay curves are coniderably reduced for both cases, but the reflection bandwidth for the hyperbolic tangent apodization is much less shrinked than that of the Gaussian apodization.

In this paper we introduced a new score generating function for the rank dispersion function in a multiple linear model. Based on the new score function, we derived the asymptotic relative efficiency, ARE(11, rs), of our score function with respect to the Wilcoxon scores for the generalized F distributions which show very flexible distributions with a variety of shape and tail behaviors. We thoroughly explored the selection of r and s of our new score function that provides improvement over the Wilcoxon scores.
Chlorination of methane was carried out over the Pt/NaY zeolite catalysts having different dispersion and location. On the finely dispersed platinum particles inside the zeolite methylchloride was the sole product, while on the large platinum ones outside surface of the zeolite all four chloromethanes were produced. Besides the role of highly dispersed platinum particles, the confined volume of the supercages in the support seems to have played another role on the exclusive production of methylchloride by restricting the further chlorination.
