It is expected that the impurities contained in a solid state insulation material will affect a considerable influence on its break-down voltage, dielectric loss, and insulation resistance. In this thesis, as a preliminary experimental research for the investigation described above, the effect of metalic barrier between the electrodes on the creepin flash over discharge voltage along the surface of a solid insulation material has been investigated, and got some interesting results. It was found that generaly the flash over voltage rises when a metalic barrier is located between the electrodes. The results of this investigation will be taken into account as an important components on the insulation design to prevent the creeping flash over discharge in insulators, bushings, and so on.
The characteristic of flashover electric discharge has been brought to light in this paper for the situation in which the space and creeping gaps are laid out in series. The result of this study has disclosed the facts that the over all flashover characteristics have three kind of features such as unilateral increase after increase, and increase after decrease in compliance with varied layout method and relative magnitude of gap length, and accordingly there exist a ratio among the magnitudes of gap length and a proper layort method through which the over all flashover voltage reaches the highest. Also involved with this study is the theoretic analysis of flashover characteristics even in the case of creeping electric discharge from hand tip of the gauge, where the over all value of flashover voltage can be estimated from the peculiar value of flashover voltage and flicker voltage for the space and creeping gap within the extent of 5% error.
Conductive metal matrix composite(MMC) material of 30% silicon carbide particulated based on aluminum matrix was machined by die sinking electrical discharge machining(EDM) process according to different current and duty factor for reverse polarity of electrode. Material removal rate(MRR) was examined by process under various operation conditions. The surface morphology was evaluated by surface roughness parameter and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) research. The MRR was suddenly increased over 11 ampere of current, and it was slightly changed over 0.3 of duty factor. The maximum surface roughness of EDMed surface was affected by the duty factor. The SEM photograghs of EDMed surface showed wide recast distribution region of melting materials as increased of current and duty factor.
Laser speckle patterns were used to monitor variations of thermal voltages of a cathode during a battery discharge. Discharge voltages measured with an oscilloscope were utilized as a figure of merit of thermal voltages in Zn metal. Using an optical imaging system, speckle patterns were taken for zinc metal surface over a time period of 3 minutes. Pixel sum distribution functions (PSDFs) were extracted from speckle patterns. Accumulated pixel sums quantified from PSDFs over an optimized grayscale range strongly correlated with discharge voltages. This suggested that dark matter or particles may have the capability of both absorbing and radiating thermal energies simultaneously. The black body-like properties were able to be validated by identifying coincidences with distinct features of a black body spectrum. The pixels belonging to the grayscale range were confirmed to represent dark matter of a speckle pattern. It was clear that dark matter was part of surface plasmon carriers. The proposed sensing system can be applied to monitor thermal energy variations in any material.
According to the previous studies which was done by the author, the flashover voltage was found to be increased considerably if some metallic barriere are inserted into the flashover discharge path. This paper shows that the flashover voltage in suspension insulators and bushings is raised up by the application of metallic barrier effect on surface discharge. Using moderate metallic barrier configulation the flash over voltage can be raised up by the amount of about 15% compared to that of the convensional type of suspension insulatiors and bushings.
A study is drawn up its result's tables and graphs by measuring tools(outside micrometer cylinder gauge and dial caliper gauge) on the difference of diameter volumes from before-discharge and after-discharge under 52 Kind's experimental condition by cupper and graphite electrode of CNC EDM. The EDM is attached with A.V.R. and memory scope for keep up accuracy and the fixed table of work piece is used in order to eliminate the noise by the internal resistance of it and forcing to eradicate the discharge liquid. It is analyzed cutting conditions to compare its wave value and pulse time.(Ton Toff) through voltage and current for decreasing working error.

The over-discharging phenomena in sodium-nickel chloride batteries were investigated in relation to decomposition of molten salt electrolyte and consequent metal co-deposition. From XRD analysis, the material deposited on graphite cathode current collector was revealed to be by-product of molten salt electrolyte decomposition. In particular, the result showed that the Ni-Al alloys ($Al_3Ni_2$, $Ni_3Al$ and $Al_3Ni$) were electrochemically deposited on graphite current collectors in line with over-discharging behaviors. It is assumed that the $NiCl_2$ solubility in molten salt electrolytes leads to the co-deposition of Ni-Al alloys by increasing metal deposition potential above 1.6 V (vs. $Na/Na^+$). The cell tests have revealed that the composition of molten salt electrolytes modified by various additives makes a decisive influence on the over-discharging behaviors of the cells. It was revealed that NaOCN addition to molten salt electrolytes was advantageous to suppress over-discharge reactions by modifying the characteristics of molten salt electrolytes. NaOCN addition into molten salt electrolytes seems to suppress Ni solubility by maintaining basic melts. The cell using modified molten salt electrolyte with NaOCN (Cell D) showed relatively less cell degradation compared with other cells for long cycles.
A novel plasma system has been developed for 3-dimensional modification of the carbon nano-powders. Improvement of dispersion of these nano materials are studied by plasma discharge, not using chemical modification. The plasma process is considered to great advantages over wet chemical process due to environmental, economic viewpoint, and uniformity over the treated volume. The uniform dispersion is a critical factor for these material's nano composite applications. Using this plasma system, graphene, carbon black, and CNT was treated and functionalized. Several key discharge conditions such as Ar/H2/O2 or Ar/H2/NH3 gas ratio, treatment time, power, feeder's vibration frequency are investigated. Hydrophobic of graphene has turned some more into hydrophilic by reaction test with water, electrophoresis, surface contact angle test, and turbidity analysis. The oxygen content ratio in the plasma treated CNT has increased about 3.7 times than the untreatedone. In the case of graphene and carbon black, the oxygen- and nitrogen- content has been enhanced average 10%. O-H (N-H) peak, C-O (C-N) peak, and C=O (C=N) peak data have been detected by FTIR measurement and intensified compared to before-plasma treatment due to O2 or NH3 content.
Charging or discharging secondary batteries such as a lithium-ion battery is essential in the stage of production and takes long time over two hours. And the charge/discharge system is operated with high switching frequency over several tens kHz. Therefore, to simulate such a system in the conventional way takes very long time and huge files are produced. Finally, the simulation would be unable with general PC class. In this paper, the lithium-ion battery charge/discharge system is analyzed by using state space averaging method. As a result, the simulation time is reduced dramatically and the charge/- discharge characteristics of the lithium-ion battery can be observed.
