  • In this paper, we have considered the method for clustering land cover types over the East Asia from AVHRR data. The feature vectors such that maximum NDVI, amplitude of NDVI, mean NDVI, and NDVI threshold are extracted from the 10-day composite by maximum value composite(MVC) for reducing the effect of cloud contaninations. To find the land cover clusters given by the feature vectors, we are adapted the self-organizing feature map(SOFM) clustering which is the mapping of an input vector space of n-dimensions into a one - or two-dimensional grid of output layer. The approach is to find first the clusters by the first layer SOFM and then merge several clusters of the first layer to a large cluster by the second layer SOFM. In experiments, we were used the 8-km AVHRR data for two years(1992-1993) over the East Asia.

  • The Location-Based Service (LBS) is one of the most well-known services on the Internet. Positioning is the primary association with LBS services. This study proposes an intelligent LoRa-based positioning system, called AI@LBS, to provide accurate location data. The fingerprint mechanism with the clustering algorithm in unsupervised learning filters out signal noise and improves computing stability and accuracy. In this study, data noise is filtered using the DBSCAN (Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise) algorithm, increasing the positioning accuracy from 95.37% to 97.38%. The problem of data imbalance is addressed using the SMOTE (Synthetic Minority Over-sampling Technique) technique, increasing the positioning accuracy from 97.38% to 99.17%. A field test in the NTUST campus (www.ntust.edu.tw) revealed that AI@LBS system can reduce average distance error to 0.48m.

  • In 4th Industrial Revolution, technologies such as artificial intelligence, Internet of Things, and Big data are closely related to the maritime industry, which led to the birth of autonomous vessels. Due to the technical characteristics of the current vessel, the speed cannot be suddenly lowered, so complex communication such as the help of a tug boat, boarding of a pilot, and control of the vessel at the onshore control center is required to berth at the port. In this study, clustering analysis was used to resolve how to establish control criteria for vessels to enter port when autonomous vessels are operating. K-Means clustering was used to quantitatively stage the arrival pattern based on the accumulated AIS(Automatic Identification System) data of the incoming vessel, and the arrival phase using SOG(Speed over Ground), COG(Course over Ground), and ROT(Rate of Turn) Was divided into six phase.

  • In this paper, we investigate the problem of achieving proportional fairness in hierarchical wireless sensor networks. Combining clustering formulation and scheduling, we maximize total bandwidth utility for proportional fairness while controlling the power consumption to a minimum value. This problem is decomposed into two sub-problems and solved in two stages, which are Clustering Formulation Stage and Scheduling Stage, respectively. The above algorithm, called CSPF_PC, runs in a network formulation sequence. In the Clustering Formulation Stage, we let the sensor nodes join to the cluster head nodes by adjusting transmit power in a greedy strategy; in the Scheduling Stage, the proportional fairness is achieved by scheduling the time-slot resource. Simulation results verify the superior performance of our algorithm over the compared algorithms on fairness index.

  • Recently there are many bibliometric studies attempting to utilize Pathfinder networks(PFNets) for examining and analyzing the intellectual structure of a scholarly field. Pathfinder network scaling has many advantages over traditional multidimensional scaling, including its ability to represent local details as well as global intellectual structure. However there are some limitations in PFNets including very high time complexity. And Pathfinder network scaling cannot be combined with cluster analysis, which has been combined well with traditional multidimensional scaling method. In this paper, a new method named as Parallel Nearest Neighbor Clustering (PNNC) are proposed for complementing those weak points of PFNets. Comparing the clustering performance with traditional hierarchical agglomerative clustering methods shows that PNNC is not only a complement to PFNets but also a fast and powerful clustering method for organizing informations.

  • In order to establish the risk criteria of inundation due to typhoons or heavy rainfall, research is underway to predict the limit rainfall using basin characteristics, limit rainfall and artificial intelligence algorithms. In order to improve the model performance in estimating the limit rainfall, the learning data are used after the pre-processing. When 50.0% of the entire data was removed as an outlier in the pre-processing process, it was confirmed that the accuracy is over 90%. However, the use rate of learning data is very low, so there is a limitation that various characteristics cannot be considered. Accordingly, in order to predict the limit rainfall reflecting various watershed characteristics by increasing the use rate of learning data, the watersheds with similar characteristics were clustered. The algorithms used for clustering are K-Means, Agglomerative, DBSCAN and Spectral Clustering. The k-Means, DBSCAN and Agglomerative clustering algorithms are clustered at the impervious area ratio, and the Spectral clustering algorithm is clustered in various forms depending on the parameters. If the results of the clustering algorithm are applied to the limit rainfall prediction algorithm, various watershed characteristics will be considered, and at the same time, the performance of predicting the limit rainfall will be improved.

  • The k-means clustering algorithm groups input data with the number of groups represented by variable k. In fact, this algorithm is particularly useful in market segmentation and medical research, suggesting its wide applicability. In this paper, we propose a privacy-preserving clustering algorithm that is appropriate for outsourced encrypted data, while exposing no information about the input data itself. Notably, our proposed model facilitates encryption of all data, which is a large advantage over existing privacy-preserving clustering algorithms which rely on multi-party computation over plaintext data stored on several servers. Our approach compares homomorphically encrypted ciphertexts to measure the distance between input data. Finally, we theoretically prove that our scheme guarantees the security of input data during computation, and also evaluate our communication and computation complexity in detail.

  • Recently, there have been many research efforts proposed on trajectory information. Most of them mainly focus their attention on those objects moving in Euclidean space. Many real-world applications such as telematics, however, deal with objects that move only over road networks, which are highly restricted for movement. Thus, the existing methods targeting Euclidean space cannot be directly applied to the road network space. This paper proposes a new clustering scheme for a large volume of trajectory information of objects moving over road networks. To the end, we first define a trajectory on a road network as a sequence of road segments a moving object has passed by. Next, we propose a similarity measurement scheme that judges the degree of similarity by considering the total length of matched road segments. Based on such similarity measurement, we propose a new clustering algorithm for trajectories by modifying and adjusting the FastMap and hierarchical clustering schemes. To evaluate the performance of the proposed clustering scheme, we also develop a trajectory generator considering the observation that most objects tend to move from the starting point to the destination point along their shortest path, and perform a variety of experiments using the trajectories thus generated. The performance result shows that our scheme has the accuracy of over 95% in comparison with that judged by human beings.

  • Wireless sensor networks is composed of many similar sensor nodes with limited resources. They are randomly scattered over a specific area and self-organize the network. For guarantee of network life time, load balancing and scalability in sensor networks, sensor networks needs the clustering algorithm which distribute the networks to a local cluster. In existing clustering algorithms, the cluster head selection method has two problems. One is additional communication cost for finding location and energy of nodes. Another is unequal clustering. To solve them, this paper proposes a novel cluster head selection algorithm revised previous clustering algorithm, LEACH. The simulation results show that the energy compared with the previous clustering method is reduced.

  • In this paper we propose content based image retrieval method using sequential clustering and projection information. Proposed method uses the mean of color in clustered color regions by sequential clustering and the projection information in each clustered color regions, which combines spatial information with color information in images efficiently. The experimental results showed that the proposed method retrieval efficiency improved 11.6 percent over conventional methods. In addition, the proposed method robustly tolerates large changes in appearance and shape caused by changes in viewing positions, camera zooms, etc.
