Process monitoring of output variables affecting final performance have been mainly executed in semiconductor manufacturing process. However, even earlier detection of causes of output variation cannot completely prevent yield loss because a number of wafers after detecting them must be re-processed or cast away. Semiconductor manufacturers have put more attention toward monitoring process inputs to prevent yield loss by early detecting change-point of the process. In the paper, we propose the method to efficiently monitor functional input variables in multi-phase semiconductor manufacturing process. Measured input variables in the multi-phase process tend to be of functional structured form. After data pre-processing for these functional input data, change-point analysis is practiced to the pre-processed data set. If process variation occurs, key variables affecting process variation are selected using contribution plot for monitoring efficiency. To evaluate the propriety of proposed monitoring method, we used real data set in semiconductor manufacturing process. The experiment shows that the proposed method has better performance than previous output monitoring method in terms of fault detection and process monitoring.

This paper present a fuzzy mxlel of describing reacton features for ozon contactor in advanced water treatn-ent systems. Input and output variables are chosen by considenng the object of ozon processing and several parameters related to management of water quahty. Dissolved organic carbon concentration, $UV_{254}$ absorptIon and $KM_NO_4$ consumption are proposed as common variables in input and outp.lt variables. Furthermore own concentration, raw water's temperature and contact time are suggested as input variables, Membership hmctions for input variables have triangular type share and the grades in each lrembership function are determined by investigating process data gathered at pilot planl The decision parts of fuzzy model have linear combination form of input variables and coefficients included in such linear equations are computedd with process clata in the sense of least square error Also fuzzy trodel suggested in this paper is partitioned by 3 independent fuzzy rnxlels using the characteristics of having no interactions armng output variables. As a result, such fuzzy mxlel has rrerits in computation and comprehension. According to simulatIon results, fuzzy moIel's outputs give almost similar data to process output under same input conditions.

In this paper, we compare the classification performance of both data fusion and clustering algorithms (Data Bagging, Variable Selection Bagging, Parameter Combining, Clustering) to logistic regression in consideration of various characteristics of input data. Four factors used to simulate the logistic model are (1) correlation among input variables (2) variance of observation (3) training data size and (4) input-output function. Since the relationship between input & output is not typically known, we use Taguchi design to improve the practicality of our study results by letting it as a noise factor. Experimental study results indicate the following: Clustering based logistic regression turns out to provide the highest classification accuracy when input variables are weakly correlated and the variance of data is high. When there is high correlation among input variables, variable bagging performs better than logistic regression. When there is strong correlation among input variables and high variance between observations, bagging appears to be marginally better than logistic regression but was not significant.

Generally, in machining operations, the required machining performance can be obtained by properly combining several machining parameters properly. In this research, we construct a simulation model, which that predicts the relationship between the input variables and output variables in the turning operation. Input variables necessary for the turning operation include cutting speed, feed, and depth of cut. Surface roughness and electrical current consumption are used as the output variables. To construct the simulation model, an Artificial Neural Network (ANN) is employed. With theIn ANN, training is necessary to find appropriate weights, and the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) technique is used as a training tool. EspeciallyIn particular, for the continuous domain, ACOR is adopted and athe related algorithm is developed. Finally, the effects of the algorithm on the results are identified and analyzsed.
Purpose: This study aimed at finding the optimal input variables of the artificial neural network-based predictive model for the optimal controls of the indoor temperature environment. By applying the optimal input variables to the predictive model, the required time for restoring the current indoor temperature during the setback period to the normal setpoint temperature can be more precisely calculated for the cooling season. The precise prediction results will support the advanced operation of the cooling system to condition the indoor temperature comfortably in a more energy-efficient manner. Method: Two major steps employing the numerical computer simulation method were conducted for developing an ANN model and finding the optimal input variables. In the first process, the initial ANN model was intuitively determined to have input neurons that seemed to have a relationship with the output neuron. The second process was conducted for finding the statistical relationship between the initial input variables and output variable. Result: Based on the statistical analysis, the optimal input variables were determined.

We consider a single-input-single-output nonlinear system which can be represented in a normal form. The nonlinear system has a modeling uncertainties including the input coefficient uncertainty. A high-gain observer is used to estimate the states variables to reject a modeling uncertainty. A globally bounded output feedback integral sliding mode control is proposed to stabilize the closed loop system. The proposed integral sliding mode control can asymptotically stabilize the closed loop system in the presence of input coefficient uncertainty.
The purpose of this paper is to show a way for extracting the core input and output variable in Korean seaports by using principal component analysis and DEA(data envelopment analysis). Two inputs(birthing capacity, and cargo handling capacity) and three outputs(export cargo handling amount, import cargo handling amount, and number of ship calls), and three cross sectional data(1995, 2000, and 2004) for 26 Korean seaports are considered for measuring the efficiencies of 21 DEA models. 21 models can be treated as variables and efficiencies as observations for extracting the core inputs and outputs variables by using principal component analysis. An empirical main result indicates that core input variable is cargo handling capacity, and core output is the number of ship calls. The Korean seaport authority can adopt the DEA and principal component analysis for deciding the development and investment to each seaport.
We examine the effects of environmental or organizational factors on the performance of TLOs(technology transfer offices) in the PRIs(Public research institutes) using SFA(Stochastic Frontier Analysis), a technique for estimating the efficiency of DMUs(decision making units). In SFA, independent variables are assumed to determine the efficient production technique(production frontier) or affect the efficiency of DMUs. Previous researchs show that input variables such as number of personnel, R&D expenditure affect the production frontier while environmental or organizational variables affect the efficiency. We tried to estimate various types of models to find out whether environmental or organizational variables affect output variables differently from the previous research. Main empirical findings are as follows. First, R&D expenditure tends to increase all output variables considered. Second, environmental factors such as type of institutions and location of institutions affect the level of outputs. Third, organizational factors such as reward system for technology transfer also appear to affect the output variables. Fourth, environmental or organizational variables affect the production frontier directly rather than affect the efficiency of DMUs. Lastly, the efficiency of each DMU appear to be 1 or near to 1. Since almost all DMUs are equally efficient, it may not be effective to evaluate technology transfer activities of PRIs by efficiency criteria. We believe that this research should be complemented by additional data. More general types of production function need to be considered, and new techniques with concepts like output distance functions need to be developed to analyse multiple outputs simultaneously.
Sliced inverse regression is a method for reducing the dimension of the explanatory variable X without going through any parametric or nonparametric model fitting process. This method explores the simplicity of the inverse view of regression; that is, instead of regressing the univariate output varable y against the multivariate X, we regress X against y. In this article, we propose bivariate sliced inverse regression, whose method regress the multivariate X against the bivariate output variables $y_1, Y_2$. Bivariate sliced inverse regression estimates the e.d.r. directions of satisfying two generalized regression model simultaneously. For the application of bivariate sliced inverse regression, we decompose the output variable y into two variables, one variable y gained by projecting the output variable y onto the column space of X and the other variable r through projecting the output variable y onto the space orthogonal to the column space of X, respectively and then estimate the e.d.r. directions of the generalized regression model by utilize two variables simultaneously. As a result, bivariate sliced inverse regression of considering the variable y and r simultaneously estimates the e.d.r. directions efficiently and steadily when the regression model is linear, quadratic and nonlinear, respectively.

This paper presents a neural net type process model for enhancing learning compensation function in hot strip finishing rolling mill. Adequate input and output variables of process model are chosen, the proposed model was designed as single layer neural net. Equivalent carbon content, strip thickness and rolling speed are suggested as input variables, and looper's manipulation variable is proposed as output variable. According to simulation result using process data to show the validity of the proposed process model, neural net type process model's outputs give almost similar data to process output under same input conditions.
