Drinking water is an essential element to ensure the basic human right to live, and the quality of clean water must always be ensured. However, domestic water facilities, which were installed intensively in the early 2000s, are deteriorating. The accidents such as discoloration of water such as chromaticity and turbidity as well as leakage of substances frequently occur. However, since it is virtually impossible to replace all water pipes, the detailed standards for maintenance of water pipe network facilities established in 2021 require water pipe cleaning. The swab pig method, one of the water pipe cleaning methods, is a method of physically removing substances in pipes and is evaluated as having the highest cleaning efficiency. However, Swab is highly likely to be damaged or deformed during the cleaning process, and may even be lost. Therefore, in this study, the material of the pig was changed to a material with high compressibility, and it was made as close as possible to the inner wall of the water pipe. And, to maximize cleaning efficiency, a rotation swab pig with a rotation blade was developed. In addition, high-strength wire and winding equipment were additionally developed to eliminate the possibility of loss and to determine the location of the pig. The inlet and outlet are connected with wires, and after verifying the performance of each detailed technology, the technology was applied on a test bed with a 30m section. As a result of the application, the performance of the technology was verified by measuring the process time and evaluating applicability.
It is urgently required to develop the production of fermentation-heat energy from the waste agricultural and forest biomass and its effective heat exchanging system for the supply of warm water to rural households and greenhouses. In this study 3 helical-type and 1 plate-type heat exchangers using 3 different waste biomasses [e.g. hardwood (HW) sawdust (100%), softwood (SW) sawdust : HW sawdust (50 : 50) and HW sawdust : grass (90 : 10)] were applied in order to find out the best heat recovery system. The heat exchanger was basically considered to improve the overall heat recovery efficiency, to minimize heat loss and to simplify manufacturing, assembling and breaking up the fermenting beds. The helical-type heat exchanger (HX-H3) installed in fermenting bed of HW sawdust : grass (90 : 10) showed relatively higher temperature profiles, in particular mid- and upper-parts than lower and surface parts during 45-day fermentation process. The maximum temperature was ranged from $40^{\circ}C$ to $65^{\circ}C$ with average $60^{\circ}C$. The water temperature of tank outlet was ranged to $33{\sim}48^{\circ}C$ during whole measuring periods. By the way plate-type one (HX-P) installed in same biomass compositional fermenting bed showed $64.5{\sim}76.5^{\circ}C$ at center part, and $43{\sim}56^{\circ}C$ and $42{\sim}58^{\circ}C$, water tank and tank outlet temperatures, respectively, during 100 day measurement. It could be concluded that the plate-type heat exchanger (HX-P) provides not only the effective heating for the rural households and greenhouses, but also having the best heat recovery performance, easy manufacturing, assembling and breaking up the systems.

Roy Huddle, having invented the coated particle in Harwell 1957, stated in the early 1970s that we know now everything about particles and coatings and should be going over to deal with other problems. This was on the occasion of the Dragon fuel performance information meeting London 1973: How wrong a genius be! It took until 1978 that really good particles were made in Germany, then during the Japanese HTTR production in the 1990s and finally the Chinese 2000-2001 campaign for HTR-10. Here, we present a review of history and present status. Today, good fuel is measured by different standards from the seventies: where $9*10^{-4}$ initial free heavy metal fraction was typical for early AVR carbide fuel and $3*10^{-4}$ initial free heavy metal fraction was acceptable for oxide fuel in THTR, we insist on values more than an order of magnitude below this value today. Half a percent of particle failure at the end-of-irradiation, another ancient standard, is not even acceptable today, even for the most severe accidents. While legislation and licensing has not changed, one of the reasons we insist on these improvements is the preference for passive systems rather than active controls of earlier times. After renewed HTGR interest, we are reporting about the start of new or reactivated coated particle work in several parts of the world, considering the aspects of designs/ traditional and new materials, manufacturing technologies/ quality control quality assurance, irradiation and accident performance, modeling and performance predictions, and fuel cycle aspects and spent fuel treatment. In very general terms, the coated particle should be strong, reliable, retentive, and affordable. These properties have to be quantified and will be eventually optimized for a specific application system. Results obtained so far indicate that the same particle can be used for steam cycle applications with $700-750^{\circ}C$ helium coolant gas exit, for gas turbine applications at $850-900^{\circ}C$ and for process heat/hydrogen generation applications with $950^{\circ}C$ outlet temperatures. There is a clear set of standards for modem high quality fuel in terms of low levels of heavy metal contamination, manufacture-induced particle defects during fuel body and fuel element making, irradiation/accident induced particle failures and limits on fission product release from intact particles. While gas-cooled reactor design is still open-ended with blocks for the prismatic and spherical fuel elements for the pebble-bed design, there is near worldwide agreement on high quality fuel: a $500{\mu}m$ diameter $UO_2$ kernel of 10% enrichment is surrounded by a $100{\mu}m$ thick sacrificial buffer layer to be followed by a dense inner pyrocarbon layer, a high quality silicon carbide layer of $35{\mu}m$ thickness and theoretical density and another outer pyrocarbon layer. Good performance has been demonstrated both under operational and under accident conditions, i.e. to 10% FIMA and maximum $1600^{\circ}C$ afterwards. And it is the wide-ranging demonstration experience that makes this particle superior. Recommendations are made for further work: 1. Generation of data for presently manufactured materials, e.g. SiC strength and strength distribution, PyC creep and shrinkage and many more material data sets. 2. Renewed start of irradiation and accident testing of modem coated particle fuel. 3. Analysis of existing and newly created data with a view to demonstrate satisfactory performance at burnups beyond 10% FIMA and complete fission product retention even in accidents that go beyond $1600^{\circ}C$ for a short period of time. This work should proceed at both national and international level.
U shape multitube heat exchanger was equipped in the flue to recover the exhaust heat from the boiler system. The fluids of the exhaust heat recovery equipment were the flue gas as the hot fluid, and the water as the cold fluid. The flow geometry of the fluids was cross flow - two pass, the hot fluid being mixed and the cold fluid unmixed. The results of the theoretical and the experimental analysis and the economic evaluation are summarized as follows. 1) The heat exchanger effectiveness and the temperature efficiency of the hot fluid were about 35% when the fuel consumption rate was 140 - 150 L/15min. The temperature efficiency for the cold fluid ranged from 3.0% to 4.5%. The insulation efficiency ranged from 85% to 98%, which was better than the KS air preheater insulation efficiency of 90%. 2) The relationship between the fuel consumption rate, F, and the outlet temperature, $T_{h2}$, of the flue gas from the heat exchanger was $T_{h2}$ = 0.927F + 110. In order to prevent the low temperature corrosion from the coagulation of $SO_3$, it is necessary to maintain the fuel consumption rate above 82 L/15min. 3) The ratio of the exhaust heat from the boiler system to the total energy consumption was about 14.5%. With the installation of the exhaust heat recovery equipment, the energy recovery ratio to the exhaust heat was about 25%. Accordingly, about 3.6% of the total fuel consumption was estimated to be saved. 4) Economic analysis indicated that the installation of the exhaust heat recovery equipment was feasible to save the energy, because the capital reocvery period was only 10 months when the fuel consumption rate was 80 L/15min. 4 months when it was 160 L/15min. 5) Based on the theoretical and the experimental analysis, it was estimated to save the energy of about 18 million Won per year, if four heat exchangers are installed in a factory. 6) A further study is recommended to identify the relationship among the flow rate of the exhaust gas, the size of the heat exchanger and the capacity of the air preheater. For a maximum heat recovery from the exhaust gas an automatic control system is required to control the flow rate of the cold fluid depending on the boiler load.

The fuel cell is one of the renewable energy sources. And it is a new source of energy that can be applied to various fuels and continuously supported by the excellent city-gas infrastructure. It is important to improve performances and reliabilities, and reduce the cost of fuel cell systems for commercialization. And, some safety performances of blower domestically produced are evaluated and some improvements are researched to save the cost of fuel cell systems. In this paper, the performance and worst stress condition of blowers are evaluated in operating environment similar to the fuel cell systems. Actually, the correlation of flow, leakage and thermal behavior are evaluated in the worst stress condition at $70^{\circ}C$ and, some major factors of blower degradation such as a motor deterioration, material and structures of the outlet are examined.
In the past most major accidents resulted in death, but today there is a dramatic increase in the number of people who survive such accidents but who are left with permanent injury. Particularly, children who are inquisitive about their surroundings but immature in their ability to assess danger, are more vulnerable to accidents and their causes as well as to determine attitudes towards prevention. The main objective of the study was to assess the effectiveness of using an accident prevention manual for accident for accident prevention education. The study was a quasi-experimental study using a questionnaire format. The subjects of the study were 393 mothers of children attending six day care centers in Seoul. Data collection was done between May 1 and June 15, 1997. The tools used for the study were a questionnaire developed the researchers and a manual for accident prevention. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS. The results of the study are as follows: 1. Types of accidents included stabbing, bums, falls from heights, choking, falls on slippery surfaces, traffic accidents, drowning, poisoning, and electrical shock in that order of frequency. 2. The main causes of accidents in children were from cosmetics and household medications. 3. The most frequent locations of accidents in the home were the bathroom, kitchen, and stairways in that order. 4. For $90.4\%$ of children safety seats were not used when the ridding in a car. 5. In examining the parents' accident prevention practices, it was found that many parents used only . one electrical outlet for many appliances, tending to overload the electricity lines and that they were not practically concerned bout the flammability of children's pajamas, indicating a less than positive attitude towards fire prevention. 6. The parents had not provided their children with any instruction on accident prevention or on what to do after an accident had occurred. 7. After the use of pamphlet in an accident prevention education program, it was found that there was a statistically significant difference in the degree to which children carried out safety measures (t=14.96, p=.000) and in their safety habits (t=-1.67, p<.1) indicating an effectiveness in this method of education. The results of this study showed that there are many things in a child's environment that can cause accidents and that the possibility of an accident occurring is high. So nurses looking after children should be aware of the need for safety education to prevent accidents in the home and plan to provide appropriate educational material to help parents with this education.

This study assessed the effect of ozone to control pathogenic bacteria in inlet water flowing to flounder farms, establishing operational parameters of ozonation at seawater conditions. Hydraulic retention time in a reaction pipeline after ozonation was fixed at 3 minutes in a flow through system. Concentrations of total residual oxidant (TRO) by ozonation were measured according to different ozonation intensities. The oxidant reduction potential (ORP), which is indirect but enables real-time measurement, was measured in relation to TRO values. TRO values were $0.01{\pm}0.01mg\;L^{-1}$ at an ORP range of 320-410 mV, $0.07{\pm}0.02mg\;L^{-1}$ at 600 mV, and $0.16{\pm}0.03mg\;L^{-1}$ at 700 mV. A heterotrophic marine bacteria colony was reduced by 80.6-97.9%, showing the suppression effect of ozonation on total bacteria in inlet water. At an ORP range of 400-500 mV, colonies of heterotrophic marine bacteria, Vibrio spp., and gram negative bacteria were significantly reduced in outlet water from a culture tank with ongrowing flounder (230 g) at a stocking density of $8kg\;m^{-2}$. Especially, Vibrio spp. and gram negative bacteria were seldom found at 400-500 mV. The daily feeding rate was from over 0.7% to total body weight at 300-500 mV, showing better performance than that in the control. The pathogenic bacteria entering the flounder farm were effectively removed when the ORP range to 400 mV or less.

The heating, ventilating, air conditioning (HVAC) system is a very important part of an automotive vehicle: it controls the microclimate inside the passenger's compartment and removes the frost or mist that is produced in cold/rainy weather. In this study, the numerical analysis of the defrost duct in an HVAC system and the de-icing pattern is carried out using commercial CFX-code. The mass flow distribution and flow structure at the outlet of the defrost duct satisfied the duct design specification. For analyzing the de-icing pattern, additional grid generation of solid domain of ice and glass is pre-defined for conductive heat transfer. The flow structure near the windshield, streakline, and temperature fields clearly indicate that the de-icing capacity of the given defrost duct configuration is excellent and that it can be operated in a stable manner. In this paper, the unsteady changes in temperature, water volume fraction, and static enthalpy at four monitoring points are discussed.
In this study, the energy conversion equipment from the radiation energy to mechanical energy by using npentane as the operating fluid was constructed and the performance to pump the water was tested for the utilization of solar powered water pump. The equipment was designed optimally, after the theoretical analyses of the water pumping head and water quantity per cycle were done. The pentane vapour temperature in the condenser and the temperature of the outlet water from the condenser became lowered and the heat transfer rate became higher with decreasing the water inlet level to the condenser. The temperature difference between the condenser and the water tank was significant. Therefore, the distance between the water tank and condenser was recommended to be shorten and the diameter of their connecting pipe was recommended to be narrow in order to reduce the resistance of the fluid passage and improve the heat transfer rate. The amount of water pumped was 1.62.4 liters. Mass flow rate of the cooling water became lowered when the cooling water pipe was prolonged from the condenser to improve the heat transfer rate.
SPLITT Fractionation (SF) provides separation of sample into two subpopulations. Separation into more than two subpopulations requires repeated SF operations. In this study, two Gravitation SF (GSF) channels were connected in a series (Tandem GSF) to obtain a separation into three subpopulations and to improve the fractionation efficiency (FE) of the fraction-b in the full-feed depletion (FFD) mode. In a single channel FFD-GSF operation, the fraction-a contained mostly the beads smaller than the cutoff diameter ($d_c$), while the fraction-b contained beads smaller than $d_c$ as well as those larger than dc, as expected. The measured FE's of the fraction-b are much lower than those of the fraction-a in all cases. The FE's of the fraction-a are higher than 84% with the average of about 91%, while those of the fraction-b are lower than 60% with the average of about 43%. No particular trends were found between FE and $d_c$, indicating the performance of FFD-GSF does not change with $d_c$ in the range where tested. Also no clear trends were observed between the FE and the sample-feeding flow rate, indicating higher sample-feeding rate can be used to increase the sample throughput without losing resolution. When two GSF channels were connected so that the flow stream emerging from the outlet-b of the channel-1 is fed directly into the channel-2, all three FE's measured for the fraction-1a were high with the average value of 99%, indicating it contains almost purely the beads smaller than $d_c$. The FE's measured for the fraction-2a are still good with the average value of 92%. The FE's measured for the fraction-2b are 64% in average, which is about 20% improvement from those obtained in a single channel FFD-GSF at the same conditions.
