  • Due to the inherent feedforward of load current, capacitor current (CC) control shows a fast transient response that makes it suitable for the power supplies used in various portable electronic devices. However, considering the effect of the outer voltage loop, the stable range of the duty-cycle is significantly diminished in CC controlled buck converters. To investigate the stability effect of the outer voltage loop on buck converters, a CC controlled buck converter with a proportion-integral (PI) compensator is taken as an example, and its second-order discrete-time model is established. Based on this model, the instability caused by the duty-cycle is discussed with consideration of the outer voltage loop. Then the dynamical effects of the feedback gain of the PI compensator and the equivalent series resistance (ESR) of the output capacitor on the CC controlled buck converter with a PI compensator are studied. Furthermore, the design-oriented closed-loop stability criterion is derived. Finally, PSIM simulations and experimental results are supplied to verify the theoretical analyses.

  • In this paper, a new fully digital control method for single-phase UPS inverter, which is based on the double control loop such as the outer voltage control loop and inner current control loop, is proposed. The inner current control loop is designed and implemented in the form of internal model control and takes the presence of computational time-delay into account. Therefore, this method provides an overshoot-free reference-to-output response. In the proposed scheme, the outer voltage control loop employing P controller with resonance model implemented by a DSP is introduced. The proposed resonance model has an infinite gain at resonant frequency, and it exhibits a function similar to an integrator for AC component. Thus the outer voltage control loop causes no steady state error as regard to both magnitude and phase. The effectiveness of the proposed control system has been demonstrated by the simulation and experimental results respectively.

  • This paper presents the algorithm for envelope protection of helicopters. The algorithm consists of two feedback control loops: inner loop and outer loop. As an inner loop control, model following control is designed to meet the ADS-33 handling qualities specification by minimizing the tracking errors between the responses of the actual model and those of the command filter. In order to implement envelope protection, saturation limiter is imposed to command channels in command filter, whose limits are computed corresponding to the envelope limit. Fast model predictive control is designed as an outer loop control to deal with saturation constraints generated by the inner loop envelope protection and also imposed by outer loop envelope protection variables. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm yields good envelope protection performance.

The stepping motor is coupling to the increment encoder to detect the position and speed of the stepping motor. The data from the encoder is decoded to sine and cosine signal and fed to the driver system. The driver system has two loops control, the inner loop and the outer loop. The inner loop is used to control the rotating of the stepping motor and the outer is used to control the speed of the motor. The rotating of the stepping motor is controlled with the sinusoidal signal. The test results of the inner loop control can control the revolution of the stepping motor is smooth and continuously with similar to the DC motor. The outer loop uses to control the speed of the stepping motor with control the DC voltages apply to the driver. The DC voltages that apply to the driver is controlled by the AC-DC converter The test results of the outer loop control, it can control the speed of motor which is provide the any load in the design.

  • We propose a multi-access points transmit power control algorithm in consideration of the channel estimation error and the multi-rate service. In the real communication systems, the channel estimation at the receiver side is imperfect due to limited number of pilot symbol usage. Furthermore, the multi-rate service is supported. We theoretically prove the uniqueness and the convergence of the proposed algorithm in multi-rate service environment. The proposed algorithm composes of one inner loop part and one outer loop part. Simulation results show that 1) the inner loop algorithm guarantees convergence of the transmit power level and the multi-rate service, 2) the outer loop algorithm compensates for the channel estimation error.

  • This article documents the design of a novel two-loop acceleration autopilot based on $\mathcal{L}_1$ adaptive output feedback control for tail-controlled missiles. The inner loop is an adaptive angle-of-attack tracking loop and the outer loop is the traditional PI controller for error compensation. A systematic low-pass filter design procedure is provided for minimum phase system and is applied to the inner loop design while the parameters of the outer loop are obtained from the multi-objective optimization problem. The effectiveness of the proposed autopilot is verified through numerical simulations under various conditions.

  • This paper proposes an asymmetric split-loop resonator with an outer square loop (ASLR-OSL), which can actively control terahertz wave transmission properties while maintaining a high-Q-factor of the asymmetric split-loop resonator (ASLR). An added outer square loop is designed to play the roles of both a metamaterial and a micro-heater, which can control the temperature through a directly applied bias voltage. A vanadium dioxide ($VO_2$) thin film, which exhibits an insulator-metal phase transition with temperature change, is used to control the transmission properties. The proposed ASLR-OSL shows transmission properties similar to those of the ASLR, and they can be successfully controlled by directly applying bias voltage to the outer square loop. Based on these results, an electrically controllable terahertz high-Q metamaterial could be achieved simply by adding a square loop to the outside of a well-known high-Q metamaterial.

  • This paper presents a new method of designing digital controller based on closed-loop identification of a pulse width modulation (PWM) converter system. We consider the control system structure which is composed of both current control loop and voltage control loop. The current controller can be designed independently of voltage loop. Whereas voltage controller can not do easily due to the PWM switching component which is nonlinear in nature. Furthermore, the control objective of inner loop is to track the sine wave of 60 Hz, but the outer loop shall maintain the constant DC voltage irrespective to load change. To systematically design outer loop controller, we propose a method finding linear approximate model of the nonlinear inner loop part including current controller by closed loop identification. Based on the identified model, we show that a simple digital voltage controller can be directly designed and it has good performance.

  • In IMT-2000 systems, the outer loop dynamically adjusts the target SIR so that adequate performance in terms of the frame error rate(FER) and the true quality measure is achieved. This paper utilizes an analytic model lot outer loop power control(OLPC) adjusting the target SIR in IMT-2000. The analytic model is based on the discrete-time Markov chain as voice traffic SIR. It is described that the model can be used to find the optimum step size in voice traffic for fast fading environments. The optimum step size influences the performance of OLPC: As the step size decreases, the average target SIR increases and average FER decreases.
