  • Heat transfer characteristics of a heat exchanger for low temperature waste heat recovery using oscillating capillary tube heat pipe were evaluated against the charge ratio variation of working fluid and various working fluids. R-l42b, R-22 and R-290 were used as working fluids. The heat exchanger was composed of heat pipe with capillary tube bundles, having a 2.6mm in outer diameter, 1.4mm in inner diameter with 101m long, and 40 turns. Charge ratio of working fluid was 40% and 50%. Water was used as secondary fluid. Inlet temperature and mass velocity for each secondary fluid were 297 K, 280 K and9~27 kg /$m^2s$,, respectively. From experimental results, it was found that heat transfer performance of R-22 was higher than those of R-l42b and R-290 and it was proportional to Figure of merit for thermosyphons. As a result, it was thought that R-22 was the most suitable working fluid of waste heat recovery for low temperature waste heat recovery.

  • The examinations of the operating mechanism of an oscillating capillary tube heat pipe (OCHP) using the visualization method revealed that the working fluid in the OCHP oscillated to the axial direction by the contraction and expansion of vapor plugs. The contraction and expansion were due to the formation and extinction of bubbles in the evaporating and condensing part, respectively The actual physical mechanism, whereby the heat which was transferred in such an OCHP was complex and not well understood. In this study, a theoretical model of the OCHP was developed to model the oscillating motion of working fluid in the OCHP. The differential equations of two-phase flow were applied and simultaneous non-linear partial differential equations were solved. From the analysis of the numerical results, it was found that the oscillating motion Of working fluid in the OCHP was affected by the operation and design conditions such as the heat flux, the charging ratio of working fluid and the hydraulic diameter of flow channel. The simulation results showed that the proposed model and solution could be used for estimating the operating mechanism in the OCHP.

  • The performance of heat exchanger using oscillating heat pipe (OHP) for low temperature waste heat recovery was evaluated. OHP used in this study was made from low finned copper tubes connected by many turns to become the closed loop of serpentine structure. The OHP heat exchanger was formed into shell and tube type. R-22 and R-141b were used as the working fluids of OHP with a fill ratio of 40 vol.%. Water was used as the working fluid of shell side. As the experimental parameters, the inlet temperature difference between heating and cooling water and the mass velocity of water were changed. The mass velocity of water was changed from 30 kg/$m^2$s to 92 kg/$m^2$s. The experimental results showed that the heat recovery rate linearly increased as the mass velocity and the inlet temperature difference of water increased. Finally, the performance of OHP heat exchanger was evaluated by $\varepsilon$-NTU method. It was found that the effectiveness would be 80% if NTU were about 1.5.

R-l42b, R-22 and R-290 were used as working a 2.6mm in outside diameter, 1.44mm in inside diameter with 101m length and 140 turns. • Bubble jet loop heat pipe is a newly devised variation of heat pipe in which heat is effectively transported by the latent heat of evaporation and condensation as well as the heat capacity of circulating working fluid. The circulatory and oscillating motion of the working fluid becomes possible by the motion of bubble jet which is generated at a narrow circular gap. These bubbles are condensed at the condensing section. Bubble jet loop heat pipe makes it possible to carry heat long distances upward and horizontal directions. Because Its structure is a very simple and a low cost, it is available for the floor heating, vinyl house heating, the defrosting of heat pump system and home refrigerator.

  • Heat transfer characteristics of the laminar oscillating flow in a circular pipe have been studied under the condition that the wall temperature of the pipe is distributed sinusoidally with the axial direction. The axial velocity was assumed to be uniform in radial direction and the temperature field was analyzed by means of the perturbation method. The results show that the difference between wall and section-time-averaged fluid temperature increases as the oscillating frequency increases and eventually converges to a constant value which is determined by the ratio of swept distance to the characteristic length of wall temperature distribution. Also it is shown that the dominant variable in the heat transfer process when swept distance ratio is greater than 1 is not thermal Womersley number(F) but thermal Womersley number multiplied by the square root of swept distance ratio. The variation of the time-averaged Nusselt number is obtained as a function of F. The results indicate that Nusselt number is proportional to $F_{\epsilon}^{1/2}$ when both of F and .epsilon. are much greater than 1.

  • The article focuses on the Temperature characteristics inside single loop oscillating heat pipe (OHPs). In this paper, heat pipe is experimentally studied thereby providing vital information on the parameter dependency of their thermal performance. The impact depiction has been done for the variation of tube model of the device. OHPs are made of copper capillary tubes of outer diameter 6.25 mm, inner diameter 4 mm heated by constant temperature water bath cooled by ambient temperature. Using four types of OHPs of copper capillary tubes length of 1500mm and HP length 650mm inside tubes working fluid is R-22 Pressure 8 bar and mass 34g,32g,28g,16g. The results indicate a strong influence of filling ratio on the performance.

  • In order to eliminate the hydration heat of mass concrete, this paper reports the results of hydration heat control in mass concrete using the OCHP (Oscillating capillary tube heat pipe). In the summarized results of the mock up experiments, distributing the heat pipe at 300 mm intervals based on the center of the test specimen was the most effective. A 200 mm turn interval for the heat pipe was measured to be the most appropriate, taking into account the reinforcement placing at the actual site. Therefore, when the hydration heat control method using the heat pipe developed in this study is applied, not only canconstruction efficiency & a reduction in the necessary construction time be expected, but so can outstanding economical effects.
