  • Control charts are used to distinguish between chance and assignable causes in the variability of quality characteristics. When a control chart signals that an assignable cause is present, process engineers must initiate a search for the assignable cause of the process disturbance. Identifying the time of a process change could lead to simplifying the search for the assignable cause and less process down time, as well as help to reduce the probability of incorrectly identifying the assignable cause. The change point estimation by likelihood theory and the built-in change point estimation in a control chart have been discussed until now. In this article, we discuss two kinds of process change point estimation when the CUSUM ($\bar{x}$, s) control chart for monitoring process mean and variance simultaneously is operated. Throughout some numerical experiments about the performance of the change point estimation, the change point estimation techniques in the CUSUM ($\bar{x}$, s) control chart are considered.

  • The coupled free vibration of flexible structures and on-board liquid in zero gravity space was analyzed, considering the spacecraft main body as a rigid mass, the flexible appendages as two elastic beams, and the on-board liquid as a "spring-mass" system. Using the Lagrangians of a rigid mass (spacecraft main body), "spring-mass" (liquid), and two beams (flexible appendages), as well as assuming symmetric motion of the system, we obtained the frequency equations of the coupled system by applying Rayleigh-Ritz method. Solving these frequency equations, which are governed by three system parameters, as an eigenvalue problem, we obtained the coupled natural frequencies and vibration modes. We define the parameter for evaluating the magnitudes of coupled motions of the added mass (liquid) and beam (appendages). It was found that when varying one system parameter, the frequency curves veer, vibration modes exchange, and the significant coupling occurs not in the region closest to the two frequency curves but in the two regions separate from that region.

  • The Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission (TRMM) is an US-Japan joint space mission to observe tropical and subtropical rainfall. This satellite is equipped with the world's first precipitation radar that operates at 13.8 GHz. We introduce the TRMM precipitation radar (PR) system, along with the PR data processing and analysis algorithms, and some observation results obtained by the TRMM PR. It is concluded that the TRMM PR can give quite useful rainfall data for the understanding of global climate changes, meteorology, climatology, atmospheric science, and also for the studies of satellite communication.

  • Material exposure experiments were performed to evaluate the relationship between air pollution and material corrosion rates based on collaboration with researchers in China, Japan, and Korea. Qualitative and quantitative atmospheric corrosion was estimated from damage caused to bronze, copper, steel, marble, cedar, cypress, and lacquer plates exposed to outdoor and indoor conditions in certain East Asian cities. The effects of atmospheric and meteorological factors on the damage to the copper plates and marble pieces were estimated using a regression analysis. The results indicated that sulfur dioxide produced the most destruction of the materials, especially in South Korea and China. In Japan, the copper plates were damaged as a result of natural conditions and sea salt. Copper was also found to be damaged by the surface deposition of sulfur and chlorine. Meanwhile, marble was substantially degraded by gaseous sulfur dioxide, yet sulfate ions in rain had no effect. Accordingly, the analysis of air pollution from the perspective of material damage was determined to be very useful in evaluating and substantiating the intensity of air pollution in East Asia.

  • In this paper, we propose Neuro-Fuzzy discrimination method of the new and old bill using bill money acoustic data. The concept of the histogram is introduced to improve the processing time into the proposal system. The adaptative filter is used in order to remove the motor sound from an observed bill money acoustic data. The output signal of this adaptive digital filter is converted into not only a spectrum but also a histogram. It became easy that features of the paper money sound were extracted from the bill money acoustic data. The spectral data and the histogram is obtained like this, and it become an input pattern of the neural network(NN). Then, the discrimination result of the NN is finally judged by the fuzzy inferece in the new bill or the exhaustion bill.

  • Presently, Analytic Network Process which evaluates man's intention and offers decision-making support is capturing the spotlight. It originates in the ability of Analytic Network Process to treat various decision-making support system. However, no detailed reference is available when dealing with the group case. This paper examines the technique, which can also cope with the group decision-making support system, and describes the validity of the technique. A characteristic feature of the proposed technique is that it can detect a group's intention in a given section, and it decomposes the sectional supermatrix into a small supermatrix and a large one. A general supermatrix treats the convergence value by taking the limiting process method of the power of an evaluation value. On the other hand, when a supermatrix has nonnegative value, it can easily be solved by the eigenvector method. The decomposition of the supermatrix has been considered in this work.

  • The metabolic fate of methionine in rumen bacteria was studied by intraruminal administration of $^{15}N$ and $1-^{13}C$ labeled methionine in goats. Time course changes in isotopic abundance of amino acids in the rumen bacteria were determined with a computer-controlled gas-chromatograph mass spectrometer. The results from the transition of peak isotopic abundance in amino acids indicated that in rumen bacteria the $^{15}N$ or $^{13}C$ isotope in the methionine molecule was transferred rapidly to into bacteria, methionine administered intraruminally may not be retained as it is, but would be converted quickly to other metabolites in the bacteria.

  • In this paper a new analytical model for the non-linear flux-linkage/current characteristics of the switched reluctance motors at different rotor positions is proposed. The model has been successfully verified by the simulation and the experimental results of the instantaneous current waveforms and the average torque values in both single pulse and multiple pulse operation of the motor. The uniqueness of the model lies in its defining a simple algorithm for determining the rotor position ($\theta$). Hence, sensorless operation of the motor can be easily implemented with the aid of this model.

  • The method of Variable Structure Control (VSC) design of windmill power systems is proposed. In the design of sliding mode control, we use Riccati equations arising in linear H$\^$$\infty$/ control to decide a stable sliding surface. Then the reachability to the sliding surface is realized by designing a nonlinear controller for the windmill power system. The capability of the proposed controller to damp out the oscillations of power and the robustness with respect to the system parameter variations and model errors are evaluated in the simulation study.

  • Among many dimensional or dimensionless amplitude parameters, kurtosis and ID Factor are said to be sensitive good parameters for machine diagnosis. In this paper, a simplified calculation method for both parameters is introduced when impact vibration arise in the observed data. Compared with the past papers' results, this new method shows a good result which fit well. This calculation method is simple enough to be executed even on a pocketsize calculator and is very practical at the factory of maintenance field. This can be installed in microcomputer chips and utilized as a tool for early stage detection of the failure.
