A miniaturized fluorescence detection system based on total internal reflection (TIR) configuration, which is applicable to detecting the presence of biological materials labeled with fluorescence dye in micro total analysis systems (${\mu}TAS$), is proposed. In conventional fluorescence testing and analysis devices, interference between the excitation light beam and the emitted light from dyes is unavoidable. This paper presents a fluorescence detection system based on TIR configuration that allows the excitation light beam and the emitted light to be spatially perpendicular to each other so as to minimize the interference where fluorescence emission is detected at the orthogonal angle to the excitation beam. We achieved the limit of detection of about 5 nmol/L with a high linearity of 0.994 over a wide range of 6-FAM mol concentration, being comparable to that in earlier studies.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of linear measurements in the horizontal and vertical dimensions based on object position and slice inclination in cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images. Materials and Methods: Ten dry sheep hemi-mandibles, each with 4 sites (incisor, canine, premolar, and molar), were evaluated when either centrally or peripherally positioned within the field of view (FOV) with the image slices subjected to either oblique or orthogonal inclinations. Four types of images were created of each region: central/cross-sectional, central/coronal, peripheral/cross-sectional, and peripheral/coronal. The horizontal and vertical dimensions were measured for each region of each image type. Direct measurements of each region were obtained using a digital caliper in both horizontal and vertical dimensions. CBCT and direct measurements were compared using the Bland-Altman plot method. P values <0.05 were considered to indicate statistical significance. Results: The buccolingual dimension of the incisor and premolar areas and the height of the incisor, canine, and molar areas showed statistically significant differences on the peripheral/coronal images compared to the direct measurements (P<0.05). Molar area height in the central/coronal slices also differed significantly from the direct measurements (P<0.05). Cross-sectional images of either the central or peripheral position had no marked difference from the gold-standard values, indicating sufficient accuracy. Conclusion: Peripheral object positioning within the FOV in combination with applying an orthogonal inclination to the slices resulted in significant inaccuracies in the horizontal and vertical measurements. The most undesirable effect was observed in the molar area and the vertical dimension.
In this paper, a shear-flexible finite element model is developed for the buckling analysis of axially loaded, thin-walled composite I-beams. Based on an orthogonal Cartesian coordinate system, the displacement fields are defined using the first-order shear-deformable beam theory. The derived element takes into account flexural shear deformation and torsional warping deformation. Three different types of beam elements, namely, the two-noded, three-noded, and four-noded beam elements, were developed to solve the governing equations. An inverse iteration with shift eigenvalue solution was used to solve the resulting linearized buckling problem. A parametric study was conducted to show the importance of shear flexibility and fiber orientation on the buckling behavior of thin-walled composite beams. A good agreement was obtained among the proposed shear-flexible model, other results available in literature, and the finite element solution.

In this paper, the frequency sharing issue between cellular time division duplex-orthogonal frequency division multiple access (TDD-OFDMA) Systems and terrestrial Fixed Systems has been studied. The conventional advanced minimum coupling loss (A-MCL) includes only the formulation to calculate the interference from one interfering system. Therefore, A-MCL must be modified to assess the aggregated interference from base stations(BS) and mobile stations(MS). By applying the modified model, the coexistence analysis are done according to the average number of MS per sector, BS-to-BS distance, and the main beam direction of the terrestrial fixed system. In the case of 20 MS per sector, the BS-to-BS distance and the minimum distance between a terrestrial fixed system and BS are 5.8 km and 2.5 km, respectively. It is about 25dB that the difference between maximum and minimum interference signal power which varies with the main beam direction of the terrestrial fixed system. Moreover, for 40% of the main beam direction of the terrestrial fixed system, interference signal power is less than the maximum permissible interference.

An approximate method based on an assumed mode method has been presented for the free vibration analysis of a rectangular plate with arbitrary edge constraints. In the presented method, natural frequencies and their mode shapes of the plate are calculated by solving an eigenvalue problem of a multi-degree-of-freedom system matrix equation derived by using Lagrange's equations of motion. Characteristic orthogonal polynomials having the property of Timoshenko beam functions which satisfies edge constraints corresponding to those of the objective plate are used. In order to examine the accuracy of the proposed method, numerical examples of the rectangular plates with various thicknesses and edge constraints have been presented. The results have shown good agreement with those of other methods such as an analytic solution, an approximate solution, and a finite element analysis.

Optical disk is the media which is used generally in data storage device, but it has a disadvantage in the vibration by spinning and the shock. For overcoming these disadvantage, we must control the optical disk to minimize the focusing error and tacking error. The present study investigates the disk profile for minimizing the focusing error subjected to environmental shock and weight of the disk. In this study, the disk is assumed to be a cantilever beam to determine the disk profile for the minimum displacement as to the shock considering only the first mode. Also, for the optimally determined profile by ADS program this paper recalculate the robust caltilever profile by using orthogonal array and ANOM.

In this study, it is intended to investigate the effect of the grinding conditions such as table feed, down feed, cross feed of residual stress distribution. And this distribution is investigated upon the grinding direction and the its orthogonal direction at ground layers. The material is used carbon steel (SM20C) which usually used to motor axis. And in order to be considered as Bernoulli-Euler beam, the dimension of the specimen is appropriately designed. According as corroiding the ground surface, the residual stress layers are removed and strain which occured on account of unbalance of internal stress is detected by rosette-gate. Through A/D converter and computer, these values are saved and evaluated residual stress by stress-strain relation formula. Finally, these results are diagrammatized with Auto Cad. The results obtained are as follows. As the depth from the ground surface increases in grinding direction and its orthogonal direction, tensile residual stress exists in the surface, and subsequently it becomes compressive residual stress as it goes downward. As the table feed, the cross feed and the down feed increase, maximum residual stress is transformed form the tensile to the compressive.

Processing parameters of filament winding were investigated by using design of experiment. To understand 4 main effects(fiber tension, impregnation pressure, processing rate, and temperature) and 3 interactions, $L_{27}(3^{13})$ orthogonal array table was adopted. The used materials were carbon fiber and epoxy resin. Split disk test and short-beam test, which are the general test methods for filament wound composite material, were selected as evaluation methods for a filament would part. The optimal processing parameters for the filament winding were easily found through the analysis of variance of the experimental results.

An isotropic electric-field probe, capable of characterizing and quantifying electromagnetic field, was fabricated. The probe consists of three short dipole antennas, a beam-lead Schottky diode and the high resistive transmission line. In order to get the isotropic response three mutually orthogonal dipoles are configured to form the probe. The probe's short dipole elements allow measurements of electric fields from 300MHz to 2GHz with a flatness of .+-. 2.9dB. The mutually orthogonal dipole configration shows a .+-. 1.2dB deviation in the isotropic response with respect to angle.

In this paper, we propose a suboptimal receiver combining adaptive array antenna and orthogonal decision-feedback detector in DS/CDMA system. Adaptive way antenna can cancel out undesired signal using beamforming scheme. However, if there are interfering signals from undesired users with the same incident angle as that of a desired user, an adaptive array antenna cannot suppress them. The proposed receiver can cancel out remaining interference from users having nearly the same beam pattern. And we employ Orthogonal Decision-Feedback Detector (ODFD) as Multiuser detection. The ODFD performs as good as the decorrelating decision -feedback detector (DDFD) with much less complexity. Simulation results show that the proposed system provides a significantly enhanced performance.
