  • Peak to average power ratio (PAPR) is one of the main imperfections in the broadband communication systems with multiple carriers. In this paper, a new crest factor reduction (CFR) scheme based on interleaved phase sequence called Dummy Sequence Insertion Enhanced Partial Transmit Sequence (DSI-EPTS) is proposed which effectively reduces the PAPR while at the same time keeps the total complexity low. Moreover, the prototype of the proposed scheme in field programmable gate array (FPGA) is demonstrated. In DSI-EPTS scheme, a new matrix of phase sequence is defined which leads to a significant reduction in hardware complexity due to its less searching operation to extract the optimum phase sequence. The obtained results show comparable performance with slight difference due to the FPGA constraints. The results show 5 dB reduction in PAPR by applying the DSI-EPTS scheme with low complexity and low power consumption.

  • We propose a new technique for sidelobe suppression in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems. Sidelobe suppression is an essential technique to design OFDM based overlay system. The proposed technique is based on the combination of the multiple choice sequence (MCS) with the conventional windowing of OFDM signal in time domain. The MCS is choosing the one sequence which has lowest power in sidelobes from the produced set of sequences. The main advantage of proposed technique is that it fully utilizes the available bandwidth to transmit data. Simulation results show that by combining MCS with conventional windowing technique, the sidelobes in OFDM system can be significantly reduced

  • This paper proposes a new multicarrier code division multiple access (CDMA) system. The proposed multicarrier CDMA system provides the advantages that the transmission bandwidth is more efficiently utilized by using divided spreading sequence, time and frequency diversity is achieved in frequency selective nultipath (acting channel, and inter-carrier interference (ICI) can be minimized by using specific data and code pattern. In this system, transmitted data bits are serial-to-parallel converted to some parallel branches. On each branch each bit is direct-sequence spread-spectrum modulated by divided spreading sequences and transmitted using orthogonal carriers. The receiver providers a Rake for each carrier, and the outputs of Rakes are combined to get time and frequency diversity. This multicarrier CDMA system allows additional flexibility in the choice of system parameters. Upon varying system parameters, bit error rate (BER) performance is examined for the proposed multicarrier CDMA system. Simulation results show that the proposed multicarrier CDMA scheme can achieve better performance than the other types of conventional multicarrier CDMA systems.

  • Frame synchronization is an critical factor for an effective operation of OFDM (orthogonal frequency division multiplexing) based communication systems. In this paper, we present and analyze an efficient frame synchronization method based on m-sequence for OFDM-based mobile multimedia communication systems. The cyclic extension preceding OFDM frames is of decisive importance for this method. The m-sequence is added directly to cyclic extension signal in the time domain. By utilizing the autocorrelation characteristics of m-sequence, efficient frame synchronization can be achieved. And we also consider frequency offset estimation simultaneously. The proposed frame synchronization method can be applied to the OFDM-based mobile multimedia communication systems.

  • In this paper, the Hybrid SC/MRC-2/4 method in which bit synchronization and phase synchronization were not required was applied to the orthogonal MC DS-CDMA system in which each normalized subcarrier interval and processing gain had the same value, respectively, and the direct sequence spread code of each subcarrier was orthogonal. In the broadband wireless system in which multi-carrier transmission was used, a Doppler frequency shift occurred, which was caused by the difference between the highest subcarrier frequency md the lowest subcarrier frequency. In order to complement phase error caused by the shift, the orthogonal MC DS-CDMA system was analyzed so that the receiving signal could be perfectly synchronized by adjusting the PLL gain suitable for the entire system. As a result of simulations, as the PLL gain was increased, the change in the intervals was close to the case of perfect synchronization however, it became less when the PLL gain reached more than a certain value. Therefore, by selecting a proper PLL gain suitable for the system the orthogonal MC DS-CDMA can be designed in which the Hybrid SC/MRC method is applied.

  • Based on an interleaving technique and quadriphase periodic complementary sequence (CS) mates, this paper presents a method for constructing a family of 16-quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) periodic CS mates. The resulting mates arise from the conversion of quadriphase periodic CS mates, and the period of the former is twice as long as that of the latter. In addition, based on the existing binary periodic CS mates, a table on the existence of the proposed 16-QAM periodic CS mates is given. Furthermore, the proposed method can also transform a mutually orthogonal (MO) quadriphase CS set into an MO 16-QAM CS set. Finally, three examples are given to demonstrate the validity of the proposed method.

  • An orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) system has the problem of the peak-to-average power ratio(PAR). In general, in order to obtain optimal PAR reduction using the partial transmitted sequence(PTS), the total search for the number of sub-blocks and the rotation factors must be accomplished. As the number of sub-blocks and rotation factors increases, PAR reduction improves, such that complexity increases exponentially and the process delay occurs simultaneously. Therefore a technique that reduces PAR, which is almost close to optimal, and the amount of calculation is desired. In this paper a new method using genetic algorithm(GA), which is widely used to search for a point that is globally optimal in many problems, is proposed to search for a rotation factor that reduces simultaneously both the PAR and the amount of calculation, such that the complexity of calculation and the process time are reduced at the same time, Comparison is performed between the proposed method and the various techniques developed previously. The superiority of proposed method is presented by demonstrating the reduction of complexity while a similar PAR reduction is obtained.

  • In this paper, a subblock partition scheme for reduction of computational complexity in partial transmit sequence which reduces the peak-to-average power ratio in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) is proposed. In this scheme, complex signals are assigned into partial subbands randomly and signals in a partial subband are duplicated and concatenated repetitively to make a subblock. By modulation of active subbands which have almost interleaved pattern, computational complexity can be reduced. As results of computer simulation, the proposed shows almost same peak to average power ratio reduction performance as compared to the conventional one. However, computational complexity required to transmit a partial transmit sequence OFDM symbol has been reduced extensively.

  • The main drawback of the multi-code spread spectrum communication system, which spreads data bits stream by the multiplexed orthogonal codes, is the need for the highly linear amplifier. Several constant amplitude precoding schemes have been proposed for the Walsh code or the extended $m$-sequence based multi-code spread spectrum systems. In the constant amplitude spread spectrum systems the accompany code is transmitted together with orthogonal codes to maintain the transmitter output in a constant level. In this paper we propose the use of the accompany in the receiver to improve the BER performance. The proposed receiver has the capability to correct the code detection error(up to one code error). We carried out simulations to verify the validity of the proposed algorithm. BER performance improvement was noticed compared with the conventional receiver.

  • Coordination among users is an inevitable but time-consuming operation in wireless networks. It severely limit the system performance when the data rate is high. We present FC-MAC, a novel MAC protocol that can complete a contention within one contention slot over a joint frequency-code domain. When a node takes part in the contention, it generates randomly a contention vector (CV), which is a binary sequence of length equal to the number of available orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) subcarriers. In FC-MAC, different user is assigned with a distinct signature (i.e., PN sequence). A node sends the signature at specific subcarriers and uses the sequence of the ON/OFF states of all subcarriers to indicate the chosen CV. Meanwhile, every node uses the redundant antennas to detect the CVs of other nodes. The node with the minimum CV becomes the winner. The experimental results show that, the collision probability of FC-MAC is as low as 0.05% when the network has 100 nodes. In comparison with IEEE 802.11, contention time is reduced by 50-80% and the throughput gain is up to 200%.
