The purpose of this study was to offer information to medical institution of specializing in orthodontic patients by surveying the influence of orthodontic patients' perception of treatment according to orthodontic treatment upon satisfaction and recommendation with orthodontic treatment, targeting patients with completion of orthodontics who have experience of having received orthodontic treatment. As a result of SAS ver. 9.1 analysis on what was surveyed from February 2010 to August, the following conclusions were obtained. In comparing perception of treatment on orthodontic treatment according to general characteristics, women compared to men were indicated to be higher (p<0.05) in inconvenience recognition (p<0.05) on orthodontic device and in inconvenience during orthodontic treatment (p<0.05). In perception of treatment on orthodontic treatment, the inconvenience of orthodontic device accounted for 79.3%, thereby having been recognized by the majority of subjects. Even the inconvenience during orthodontic treatment was being recognized by 69.8%. The orthodontic treatment expenses appeared enough to be expected by 61.6%. The frequency of visiting hospital during orthodontic treatment was indicated as saying of having been proper by 72.8%. The period of orthodontic treatment was indicated to be proper as well by 61.2%. Even understanding about treatment contents during orthodontic treatment was indicated to be understood by 62.6%. In the results of correlation among subjects' cooperation with dental treatment, satisfaction with treatment service, recommendation of this clinic, and satisfaction with the convenient facilities, the significantly positive correlation was shown (p<0.05) in all among items in each.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the factors affecting self - esteem of orthodontic patients. The factors affecting the self - esteem of the orthodontic patients were monthly incomes, and the factors influencing the necessity of orthodontic treatment were the highest at 20-25 years of age. The factors affecting the self - esteem of the orthodontic patients were the order of correction (β= 0.186), dental treatment satisfaction (β= 0.236), interpersonal relationship (β= 0.407), and the explanatory power of the model was 27.6%. Based on these results, it is necessary to continuously study the psychological characteristics to improve the recognition of the need for correction of orthodontic patients, the satisfaction of dental treatment, and the interpersonal relationship.
The introduction of cone-beam computed tomography(CBCT) and computer software in dentistry has allowed orthodontists and maxillofacial surgeons to provide more accurate diagnosis and treatment. In this article, a facial asymmetry patient who had orthodontic treatment combined with orthognathic surgery using CBCT imaging is introduced and the way how CBCT imaging could be applied in clinical orthodontics and orthognathic surgery is explained. Also, evaluation of treatment outcomes using CBCT is suggested. More accurate, predictable and efficient surgical orthodontic planning and treatment are expected in the near future through cutting edge medical imaging including CBCT and CAD/CAM technologies.
Purpose: This study examined the factors influencing the choice of dental clinics by individuals who received orthodontic treatment for malocclusion. Methods: Participants were 320 male and female college students in Daegu and Gyeongsangbuk-do who had received orthodontic treatment in dental clinics for malocclusion. They were surveyed about their choices of dental clinics. Of the 320 questionnaires, 294 (91.9%) were used for analysis, and surveys with insufficient responses or errors were excluded. Results: The factors influencing the choice of dental clinics varied among the participants. Furthermore, factors that most commonly affected their choices were, in order, trust in dentists' skills and medicine used, information from community sources, friendliness of the dentist, friendliness of clinic staff, cleanliness of the hospital, availability of up-to-date medical facilities and equipment, convenience of location, and recommendations by acquaintances. Conclusion: Factors underlying the choice of dental clinics varied among the participants. Typically, these choices were strongly influenced by factors such as reputation, professionalism, and friendliness.
Objective: This in vitro study was undertaken to evaluate the physical, chemical, and biological properties of commercially available metal orthodontic brackets in South Korea, because national standards for these products are lacking. Methods: Four bracket brands were tested for dimensional accuracy, (manufacturing errors in angulation and torque), cytotoxicity, composition, elution, and corrosion: Archist (Daeseung Medical), Victory (3M Unitek), Kosaka (Tomy), and Confidence (Shinye Odontology Materials). Results: The tested rackets showed no significant differences in manufacturing errors in angulation, but Confidence brackets showed a significant difference in manufacturing errors in torque. None of the brackets were cytotoxic to mouse fibroblasts. The metal ion components did not show a regular increasing or decreasing trend of elution over time, but the volume of the total eluted metal ions increased: Archist brackets had the maximal Cr elution and Confidence brackets appeared to have the largest volume of total eluted metal ions because of excessive Ni elution. Confidence brackets showed the lowest corrosion resistance during potentiodynamic polarization. Conclusions: The results of this study could potentially be applied in establishing national standards for metal orthodontic brackets and in evaluating commercially available products.
In this study, to find the influencing factors of the cooperation affects the result of the orthodontic treatment, the questionnaires were collected from patients who were being treated with fixed orthodontic appliances at A dental clinic in Seoul area. The results of this study are below.1. The average of the total score of the cooperation was 8.04 with the range of between 2 and 14. 2. The gender and age of the patient did not show the meaningful significance in aspect of the cooperation. 3. The relation between the period of treatment time and the cooperation, the analysis showed that the longer the period of treatment, the lesser the cooperation (P < 0.05). 4. The average of the cooperation by decision maker, the patient himself was 9.17, mother was 7.69 and father was 7.77. This result showed that the treatment decision made by the patient himself, the cooperation was highest (P < 0.05). 5. In the relationship between the malocclusion classification and the cooperation, the Angle Class I was 8.77, Class II was 7.28, and Class III was 6.89. This result showed that the average cooperation of Angle Class I patients was higher than Angle Class III patients (P < 0.05). 6. All the influencing factors to the orthodontic treatment were analyzed by logistic regression analysis (RGA). The result showed that there is meaningful significance in the treatment period and malocclusion classification. The most influencing factor was treatment period and the longer the period, the lesser cooperation (P < 0.05).

Patients who have extruded anterior teeth and deep bite with pathologic tooth migration, it is necessary not only periodontal treatment for reduce inflammation, but also orthodontic treatment for intrusion of anterior teeth. However, it is difficult to place the orthodontic brackets due to the deep bite, and there is a problem that the extrusion of the posterior teeth occurs more easily than the intrusion of the anterior teeth biomechanically. In particular, in patients with long face, relative intrusion of the anterior teeth by extrusion of the posterior teeth causes the clockwise rotation of the mandible and makes the facial profile worse. Therefore the biomechanical consideration and appliance design that can block these problems are required from the treatment plan. This is a patient who had a deep overbite with extruded anterior teeth, treated by periodontal treatment and intrusion of mandibular anterior teeth using cute brackes and miniscrews, and resulted in favorable maintenance during 8-year retention.

Orthodontic treatment is obviously the first choice to get aligned teeth cause of conservative treatment. But it is impossible to get highly esthetic result only orthodontic treatment in case of peg lateralis, discrepancy tooth size, discolored teeth or fractured teeth. As all treatment does, especially in esthetic treatment it is always required interdisciplinary diagnosis and treatment plan; orthodontics, periodontology, prothetics, implant therapy. As also, the treatment should be maintained long-term treatment with stable and harmonious state by esthetic satisfaction and functional occlusion those who needs various dental care as interdisciplinary treatment. This case is the laminate treatment with the orthodontic treatment on 37 ages/ Female patient who has cross bite at anteriors and premolar area and abrasion on centralis at right maxilla. By orthodontic treatment aligned teeth positions, it makes functional occlusion. As laminate treatment with minimum teeth preparation is able to release anterior esthetics. Follow up check for 2 years has been performed since the final prosthetics delivery to the patient. No sign of relapse, fracture of laminate were detected.

In most patients with severe crowding or lip protrusion, orthodontic treatment with tooth extraction is done. In these patients, even though space is closed after orthodontic treatment, gingival invagination is observed on the extracted site. Since there are possibilities of space recurrence and regional periodontic problems occurrence, periodontic treatment is necessary on the gingival invagination region. This case was a 16 year old female with a chief complaint of crooked teeth. Since her maxillary premolars were already extracted a few years ago at a local dental clinic, orthodontic treatment was done by extracting mandibular premolars. Unlike maxillary premolar regions, gingival invagination occurred in mandibular premolar regions and gingival flattening was done by excising the gingival invaginated region. Gingival flattening was done once on the left side, twice on the right side and showed stable results. This is a case report of a patient that was prone to gingival invagination after orthodontic treatment with extraction and was treated with gingival flattening.
