  • This research thoroughly analyzes prior literature related to the flexibility of cargo airlines to switch the airport and discusses the driving factors of such footloose nature. The main purpose of the study is to identify the most deterrent factors leading to airport relocation decision which determines cargo industries role on the global trade. Qualitative research based on systematic process analysis was conducted as a main research method. As a result, 24 factors related to airport-airline relationship were chosen and categorized into four main groups; (1) Location issues, (2) Restrictions, (3) Poor quality, and (4) High costs. The findings derived from the analysis of selected studies suggest that restriction related issues (e.g. night-time flight restrictions, customs administration) followed by location issues (e.g. absence of origin destination demand) have created more constraint to airport-airline relationship.

  • This study aims to propose an assessment tool of port service quality (PSQ) in the context of container transport logistics (CTLs), by taking the perspectives from port users. The CTLs defined in this study are the relevant activities of serving the physical flows of a container box from a point of origin via a container port to a point of destination. To address the ports' role in collaboration between its channel members in CTLs, the PSQ measures for all port user groups (i.e. common PSQ measures) are selected based on the relevant CTLs activities involved by port, and its users within terminal/port area as well as throughout the CTLs chain. An importance-performance analysis (IPA) is applied as a diagnostic tool to analyse the status quo of Busan Port in CTLs contexts, by comparing the importance and performance (IP ) scores against each individual CTLs criterion. The findings from the IPA reveal that port managers and policy makers at the Busan Port should concentrate on six PSQ measures (i.e. SR1, SR4, ITS1, VAS1, VAS4, ICI3) to enhance PSQ in CTLs. However, four measures (i.e. ITS2, ITS3, ITS4, VAS2) are identified as a possible overkill, indicating an area of inefficiency where a remedial action of the cost-cutting decision is necessary. On the other hand, the Busan port shows an outstanding performance on four measures such as SR2, SR3, ICI1 and ICI2. The measures are not only important but also high performance. The study findings provide managerial guidance to port managers in Busan Port, in view of searching for managerial and operational strategies for sustainable port growth.

  • Identifying the exact train and the type of train boarded by passengers is practically cumbersome. Previous studies identified the trains boarded by each passenger by matching the Automated Fare Collection (AFC) data and the train schedule diagram. However, this approach has been shown to be inefficient as the exact train boarded by a considerable number of passengers cannot be accurately determined. In this study, we demonstrate that the AFC data - diagram matching technique could not estimate 28% of the train type selected by passengers using the Seoul Metro line no.9. To obtain more accurate results, this paper developed a two-step method for estimating the train type boarded by passengers by applying the AFC data - diagram matching method followed by a mixture distribution analysis. As a result of the analysis, we derived reasonable express train use/non-use passenger classification points based on 298 origin-destination pairs that satisfied the verification criteria of this study.

The main objectives of this study were also to evaluate Sasang Constitutional Medicine(S.C.M.) diagnosis cost from foreigners' perspectives. 2. Methods : For this study, the data were collected from tourists to Korea between January 3, 2010 to February 20, 2010. The sample used in this study was mainly composed of Japanese, Chines and US/Canada, because they are the major national visitor origin group to Korea. The primary data were collected by questionnaire survey using a standardized instrument with a convenience sampling procedure, and efforts of the interviews involved an on-site, self-administrated questionnaire to those sitting or visiting tourist attractions. The total size of the sample was 276 of which 275 showed no missing value against the factors needed for final analysis and were for analysis as an effective sample. SPSS 13.0 for window was used to analyze the collected data on which descriptive statistics and the Limited Dependent(LIMDEP) 8.0 program was used in estimating the willingness-to-pay(WTP) for traditional Korean medical tourism through the Contingent Valuation Method(CVM). A dichotomous choice question form of a CVM was applied to estimating the value. 3. Results and Conclusion: 1. There was significant statistical relationship between attributes when considering medical tourism destination and socio-demographic profiles such as age group, nationality, educational level and occupation. 2. In the level of recognition on Korean medicine, north Americans showed low level of recognition compared to other nationalities. In addition, in terms of age group, 20's and 30's showed low level of recognition on Korean medicine, 3. In relation to the level of interest on Korean medicine, Japanese respondents had higher interesting level on Korean medicine. Also singles had higher level of interest. 4. Regarding preferred Korean medical treatment program, there found significant statistical relationship between Korean medical treatment program and socio-demographic characteristics. 5. The estimating result of the logit model showed that the variables affecting the WTP for Sasang Constitutional medicine diagnosis were offered price and potential ability of medical tourism destination. 6. In relation to WTP for Sasang Constitutional medicine diagnosis, Japanese respondents showed a WTP of USD 62.69 and Chinese respondents showed USD 57.09. On the other hands, respondents from north America and other countries showed a WTP of USD 65.50. In conclusion, from this study, the results found that the opportunities in tradition Korean medical tourism are immense and the possible rewards are numerous. It is time to continue to promote 'Sasang Constitutional medicine' and make the Korean medical tourism programs considering on nationalities, age group, gender and WTP.

  • This study has redefined the concepts of mobility indexes and potential demand, standards to evaluate areas with the worst public transportation system and applied the relevant indexes to select the areas with the worst public transportation mobility and present a method to set direct public transportation lines between these regions. The mobility indexes and indexes to evaluate potential demand were applied to select the regions with the worst public transportation systems in four metropolitan cities and case studies were carried out on direct lines provided between these regions. The analysis results showed that in public transportation mobility blind spots, public transportation takes much longer than driving an automobile or public transportation services are not provided. In addition, the analysis showed that a direct lines system to solve such worst off regions should be built to have public transportation take as much time as driving an automobile by establishing lines for automobiles only, minimize time lost from hopping up and down a bus and maximize connections.

  • This study sets up nodal regions for shopping and leisure with 424 district units located in Seoul and examines the characteristics of the vertical structure and the regional system. According to the higher-order analysis result, the trip for leisure forms a greater part, and about each of the nodal regions of the first stratum, major spots for origin and destination are located in the center, and those spots are connected to adjacent district units located nearby. As the factor's eigenvalue is bigger, the spatial range gets greater, too, and is located in outsides. And in the third or higher strata, either linkage between Gangnam and Gangbuk or leapfrogging linkage according to the bipolar factors is distinctive. Linkage between nodal regions centering around Jongro-gu, Jung-gu, Gangnam-gu, or Yeoungdeungpo-gu is not distinct, and in particular, the nodal regions of Jongro Geumcheon are maintained as the upper strata being independent from other nodal regions from the second or higher strata.

  • Recently, the volume of transshipment containers in Busan Port has been declining significantly and domestic ports' throughput is shown far below the projected one. Accordingly, the national port development plan made to capture the sharply increasing demand in the past seems to be subject to an amendment, and inducing port container traffic becomes a key issue. In such situation this paper aims at analysing the effect of logistics cost saving when Japanese import and export containers are transshipped in Busan port. For this we developed 3 scenarios for the movement of containers through the major container ports in western cost of Japan, analysed logistics costs together with cost savings and finally derived some implication for inducing the containers to Busan Port.

  • The expressway network includes a total of about 1,899 km in our country The only 1,016 km of that is being managed by the closed Toll Collection System(TCS) which is composed of 74 tollgates. We obtain inter-tollgate O-D matrices from that system everyday. But, they are not traffic-zonal O-D matrices. So they have not been used for the expressway traffic analysis and the traffic demand estimation despite of their accuracy. If we could estimate the traffic-zonal O-D matrices from TCS O-D ones, we could perform expressway traffic analysis more efficiently. Moreover we could obtain more precise expressway O-D matrices and traffic-zonal O/D ones by this approach than by the conventional ones. In this paper. we proposed the model estimating traffic-zonal O/D matrices from TCS O-D ones. The assigned volumes with the estimated traffic-zonal O-D matrices produced the only 17.9% error all over the TCS expressway section when compared to the real traffic volumes. So, the proposed model enables for us to estimate more accurate O/D matrics than any other existing methods.
