Change in Microstructure and Texture during Continuous-Annealing in Dual-Phase Steels (복합조직강의 연속어닐링과정에서 미세조직과 집합조직의 변화)

  • The variation in microstructure and texture during continuous annealing was examined in a series of 1.6% Mn-0.1% Cr-0.3% Mo-0.005% B steels with carbon contents in the range of 0.010 to 0.030%. It was found that microstructure of hot band consisted of ferrite and pearlite as a consequence of high coiling temperature, and eutectoid carbon content was between 0.011% and 0.016%. Martensite ranged in volume fraction from 1.5% to 4.0% when annealed at $820{\circ}C$ according to the typical continuous annealing cycle. The critical martensite content for the continuous yielding was about 4% from stress-strain curves. The continuous yielding was obtained in the 0.030% carbon steel and 0.010% to 0.020% carbon steels revealed some yield point elongation ranging from 0.8% to 2.2% in as-annealed conditions. Higher tensile strength in the higher carbon steel is due to both increase in the martensite volume fraction and ferrite grain refinement. Decreasing the carbon content to 0.01% strengthened the intensities of ${\gamma}$-fiber textures, resulting in the increase in the $r_m$ value, which was caused by the lower volume fraction of martensite. The higher carbon steels showed the lower $r_m$ value of about 1.0.

An Improved Approach for 3D Hand Pose Estimation Based on a Single Depth Image and Haar Random Forest

  • A vision-based 3D tracking of articulated human hand is one of the major issues in the applications of human computer interactions and understanding the control of robot hand. This paper presents an improved approach for tracking and recovering the 3D position and orientation of a human hand using the Kinect sensor. The basic idea of the proposed method is to solve an optimization problem that minimizes the discrepancy in 3D shape between an actual hand observed by Kinect and a hypothesized 3D hand model. Since each of the 3D hand pose has 23 degrees of freedom, the hand articulation tracking needs computational excessive burden in minimizing the 3D shape discrepancy between an observed hand and a 3D hand model. For this, we first created a 3D hand model which represents the hand with 17 different parts. Secondly, Random Forest classifier was trained on the synthetic depth images generated by animating the developed 3D hand model, which was then used for Haar-like feature-based classification rather than performing per-pixel classification. Classification results were used for estimating the joint positions for the hand skeleton. Through the experiment, we were able to prove that the proposed method showed improvement rates in hand part recognition and a performance of 20-30 fps. The results confirmed its practical use in classifying hand area and successfully tracked and recovered the 3D hand pose in a real time fashion.

Development of Empirical Space Weather Models based on Solar Information

  • We are developing empirical space weather (geomagnetic storms, solar proton events, and solar flares) forecast models based on solar information. These models have been set up with the concept of probabilistic forecast using historical events. Major findings can be summarized as follows. First, we present a concept of storm probability map depending on CME parameters (speed and location). Second, we suggested a new geoeffective CME parameter, earthward direction parameter, directly observable from coronagraph observations, and demonstrated its importance in terms of the forecast of geomagnetic storms. Third, the importance of solar magnetic field orientation for storm occurrence was examined. Fourth, the relationship among coronal hole-CIR-storm relationship has been investigated, Fifth, the CIR forecast based on coronal hole information is possible but the storm forecast is challenging. Sixth, a new solar proton event (flux, strength, and rise time) forecast method depending on flare parameters (flare strength, duration, and longitude) as well as CME parameter (speed, angular width, and longitude) has been suggested. Seventh, we are examining the rates and probability of solar flares depending on sunspot McIntosh classification and its area change (as a proxy of flux change). Our results show that flux emergence greatly enhances the flare probability, about two times for flare productive sunspot regions.

A Study on the Automatic Identification of HANGEUL Seal by using the Image Processing (영상처리에 의한 한글인장의 자동직별에 관한 연구)

  • The proposed seal identification procedure consists of the smoothing, rotation, thinning, and matching techniques. The seal images which are scanned by CCTV are thresholded into the binary prctures of $256{\times}256$ pixels through A/D converter and 6502 microcomputer. After the sample and target images are ratated into an identical orientation, a thinning process is used to extract the skeletons of the character strobes. The wighted map is constructed by distance weight from which the distance weighted correlation C is computed. The C is compared with the dicision constant C or C for the purpose of seal indentification. The identification rate is 95% and the total CPU time is less than 3 minutes for each identification in the experiment.

An Efficient Outdoor Localization Method Using Multi-Sensor Fusion for Car-Like Robots (다중 센서 융합을 사용한 자동차형 로봇의 효율적인 실외 지역 위치 추정 방법)

  • An efficient outdoor local localization method is suggested using multi-sensor fusion with MU-EKF (Multi-Update Extended Kalman Filter) for car-like mobile robots. In outdoor environments, where mobile robots are used for explorations or military services, accurate localization with multiple sensors is indispensable. In this paper, multi-sensor fusion outdoor local localization algorithm is proposed, which fuses sensor data from LRF (Laser Range Finder), Encoder, and GPS. First, encoder data is used for the prediction stage of MU-EKF. Then the LRF data obtained by scanning the environment is used to extract objects, and estimates the robot position and orientation by mapping with map objects, as the first update stage of MU-EKF. This estimation is finally fused with GPS as the second update stage of MU-EKF. This MU-EKF algorithm can also fuse more than three sensor data efficiently even with different sensor data sampling periods, and ensures high accuracy in localization. The validity of the proposed algorithm is revealed via experiments.

A Real-time and Off-line Localization Algorithm for an Inpipe Robot by Detecting Elbows (엘보 인식에 의한 배관로봇의 실시간 위치 추정 및 후처리 위치 측정 알고리즘)

  • Robots used for pipe inspection have been studied for a long time and many mobile mechanisms have been proposed to achieve inspection tasks within pipelines. Localization is an important factor for an inpipe robot to perform successful autonomous operation. However, sensors such as GPS and beacons cannot be used because of the unique characteristics of inpipe conditions. In this paper, an inpipe localization algorithm based on elbow detection is presented. By processing the projected marker images of laser pointers and the attitude and heading data from an IMU, the odometer module of the robot determines whether the robot is within a straight pipe or an elbow and minimizes the integration error in the orientation. In addition, an off-line positioning algorithm has been performed with forward and backward estimation and Procrustes analysis. The experimental environment has consisted of several straight pipes and elbows, and a map of the pipeline has been constructed as the result.

A Study on the Generation of Digital Elevation Model from IRS-1C Satellite Image Data (IRS-1C 위성데이타를 이용한 수치표고모델 생성에 관한 연구)

  • The study aims to develope techniques for generating digital elevation model(DEM) from IRS-1C PAN stereo image data. The bundle adjustment technique was used to determine the satellite exterior orientation parameters as a function of along-track lines. The first degree of polynomial was selected as a function of satellite attitude and position for each scan line. To evaluate the DEM and orthoimage generated, the resulted three dimensional coordinates of the 16 elevation points were computed with the map coordinates. The elevation test showed that root mean square errors of the DEM elevation was about $\pm{16.66m}$ meters.

Character String Detection using Character-Edge Map with Adaptive Character Size and Character String Orientation in Natural Images (자연영상에서 문자의 크기와 문자열의 방향에 적응적인 문자-에지 맵을 이용한 문자열 검출)

  • 이미지 데이터베이스 시스템에서 이미지에 포함된 문자정보를 기반으로 검색어를 사용한다면 검색의 정확도 높일 수 있다. 이미지에서 문자정보를 추출을 위한 전단계로서 문자열 영역 검출이 필수적인 과제가 된다. 그러므로 본 논문에서는 문자의 크기와 문자열의 방향에 적응적인 문자-에지 맵을 이용한 문자열 영역 검출 방법을 제안한다. 캐니-에지 검출기로 에지를 추출하고, 생성된 에지 이미지로 레이블 이미지를 얻고, 그 영역의 문자구조 특징을 분석하기 위해서 배열문법으로 문자-에지 맵에 적응적으로 분석한다. 문자-에지 맵의 분석결과로서 문자열 후보 영역을 얻고, 문자열 영역의 구조적인 특징을 이용하여 문자열 후보 영역을 검증함으로서 최종적인 문자열 영역을 검출한다. 제안한 방법은 다양한 종류의 자연영상을 대상으로 실험하였고, 자연영상에서 기울어진 문자열과 다양한 크기의 문자를 갖는 문자열 영역을 효과적으로 검출하였다.

Effect of powder phase during SiC single crystal growth (탄화규소 단결정 성장시 원료분말 상(Phase)의 영향)

  • 숭화법을 이용한 탄화규소(Silicon carbide) 단결정 성장시 사용되는 원료의 상(phase)이 단결정 성장에 미치는 영향을 알아보기 위해 알파형 탄화규소 분말(${\alpha}-SiC$ powder)과 베타형 탄화규소 분말(${\beta}-SiC$ powder)을 각각 사용하였다. 알파형 탄화규소 분말을 사용한 경우에 단결정(single-crystal)을 성장할 수 있었으나, 베타형 탄화규소 분말을 사용하였을 때에는 다결정(poly-crystal)이 성장되었다. 다결정 형성요인에 관한 EPMA 분석결과, 베타형 탄화규소 분말의 탄소에 대한 실리콘의 원소조성비$(N_{Si}/N_C\;=\;1.57)$가 알파형 탄화규소 분말의 경우보다$(N_{Si}/N_C\;=\;0.81)$ 높음을 확인하였다. 따라서 흑연도가니(crucible) 내부의 실리콘 원자가 알파형 탄화규소 분말을 사용하는 경우보다 높은 과포화상태가 되어 종자정 표면에 미세한 실리콘 액적(droplet)이 중착되고 이것으로부터 일정하지 않은 방향성(random orientation)을 갖는 탄화규소 다결정(다양한 방향성을 갖는 다형 포함)이 성장한 것으로 실리콘과 탄소 원소에 대한 EPMA 지도(map) 결과를 통해 확인할 수 있었다.

A Study on the Accuracy Improvement of Control Point Surveying of Photograph Using Digital Camera (디지털 카메라를 이용한 사진기준점측량의 정확도 향상에 관한 연구)

  • With supply of the domestic digital camera, the relative importance of the digital camera is coming to be high gradually on aerial photogrammetry, the image of digital camera is more applied in image map or digital topographic map production. But, there are cases that do not have position information or attitude information of each photograph in digital camera results. Therefore, we wish to present additional method to get more accurate photograph control point result. In this study, One is called A method, which is the case of entering positioning information of principal point from topographic map as default values that are need to extract tie point automatically using by 56 pieces of photography that are photographed by DMC to the extent to 5 courses and 35 GCP points. The other is called B-method, which is the case of entering exterior orientation parameters that are processed by block adjustment for A-method using by 4 control points in method-1 as default values. We have analyzed about results per control points arrangement for two cases using MATCH-AT that is photograph control point measurement S/W of Germany INPHO company. As a result of analysis, accuracy of B-method was better than that of A-method, and we could get more accurate results if block adjustments are executed including self calibration. Also, it is more effective in expense side that using self calibration for photograph survey in B-method because can reduce GCP numbers.
