  • Purpose : This study was carried out to evaluate correlation between Bone Mineral Density(BMD) and degenerative lumbar disease in postmenopausal low back pain patients. Methods : 69 postmenopausal patients with low back pain were examined. Magnetic resonance imaging was performed to evaluate degenerative lumbar disease and bone mineral density of lumbar spine was measured by Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry. Data were analyzed by Pearson's Linear Correlation Coefficient. Results : In postmenopausal patients with low back pain, BMD(T-score, Z-score) had negative correlation with the grade of intervertebral disc herniation and positive correlation with weight. Other lumbar diseases including Spinal stenosis, Spondylolisthesis and Facet joint arthrosis didn't have significant correlation with BMD. Conclusion : In postmenopausal patients with low back pain, BMD(T-score, Z-score) had inverse relationship with the grade of intervertebral disc herniation.

  • Objective : This study was designed to compare the effect of chuna manupulation on acute low back pain. Method : We diveded the acute low back pain patients who visited ER into two groups, one was patients who were treated with only acupuncture and the other was patients who were treated with acupuncture and chuna manupulation. and then compared the VNRS measurments of each group. Result : The improvement rate of the combined treatment group was higher than the single treatment group. Conclusion : In case of acute low back pain, it is more effective to treat with acupuncture with chuna manupulation than to treat with only acupuncture.

  • Cough is a very common and largely recurrent childhood respiratory disease. In Korean medicine, Zhudanxi(矢丹溪), was the first to classify cough according to the different stages of time. In this research, I examined the stage of Nocturnal Cough(晨嗽) which refers to cough that occurs at dawn. Indigestion is classified as the cause with SaBaek-san proscribed as the treatment for such cough. In this research, twenty five children who had coughing at dawn with abdominal symptoms were treated with Sabaek-san-kamibang and then examined for cough, abdominal symptoms and other related symptoms. As a result, there was a statistically notable decrease in cough, abdominal symptoms and other symptoms such as nasal discharge, sputum, constipation, vomiting and cough. In addition, of the twenty five patients found with acute cough and those with moderate cough with abdominal symptoms showed good clinical results upon completion of treatment.

  • Objective: Through the literature on the effect of Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans L. Koch, we are finding out the clinical possibility and revealing the more effective to untractable disease. Method: We investigated the literatures of Oriental Medicine and experimental reports about Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans L. Koch. Results: 1.The taste of Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans L. Koch is hot, wann and toxic, and the effect is dispelling wind, spasmolytic action and detoxication so it has been used for C.V.A, facial palsy, numbness of hands and feet, wounds and arthritis. 2. A toxic constituent of Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans L. Koch is mainly located in the 1st limbs, and we can prevent toxic symptoms, if taken a dosage moderately. 3. The pharmacological action of Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans L. Koch is anti-convulsive action, analgesic action, lowering blood pressure, anti-inflammatory action, anti-tumor action and microbe inhibition. On the study of Scolopendra subspinipes mutilans L. Koch, we thought it is effective to intractable disease, and it may be needed variable studies on toxicity and clinical effects.

  • Cough is a common clinical problem to which various etiologies are attributable. In Korean medicine there are differentiations in etiology such as food-accumulation and Yin-deficiency. This study was aimed to analyze the relations between the time of cough and Korean syndrome differentiations and to compare the symptoms of Korean syndrome differentiations (food-accumulation and Yin-deficiency). Sixty-two cough patients were analyzed and classified into one of two syndrome differentiations by etiology. We compared the time of coughing and symptomatic characteristics of two: such as symptom differences and change of severity after treatment. Patients with food-accumulation were more prevalent than patients with Yin-deficiency. Among symptoms, anorexia, dyspepsia, nausea and nasal discharge were more prevalent in food-accumulation while pruritus of throat was prevalent in Yin-deficiency. Coughing at night was prevalent in Yin-deficiency and coughing at rising hour was prevalent in food-accumulation.
