  • This study is the contents regarding the thought quality of Rui-Yi(儒醫) medical science. I shared this subject a lot with three branches and i analyzed. The thought ground of the Rui-Yi(儒醫) is the Ren(仁). Them applied meaning of human medically. This became the basic idea of Chinese medical science. The practice of mind the place did with focus of studying abroad. The Rui-Yi(儒醫) it applied with ground of the medical objection. The Zhi-zhong-he(致中和) from medical science explains with the Yin-Yang(陰陽), the principal is a possibility of searching from the iching-study(易學).

  • Han Dongseok advocated his own unique viewpoint about Universal Revolution based on Jeong-yeok(正易), and newly explained Exchange between Metal and Fire[金火交易]. Although he was not a researcher that had developed Jeong-yeok(正易), he has been judged as a utilitarian that tried to apply Change theory[易學] to realistic field called Oriental Medicine. The reason that such efforts are valuable is that he extended one of cosmological theory that is to say Jeong-yeok(正易) to the exchange of human body based on space-time progress. Theoretically he proved Jeong-yeok(正易) with the thought that heaven and human beings correspond to each other, realistically he showed turning point that as a main agent in Universal revolution we can change our own lives, in "The Principles of Universal Revolution", which is his most famous work.

  • Je Joon Shin Pyeon, of 濟衆新編 is a classic on medicines which was written as an attempt to make the best of many different medicinal classics in order to make the details clear and concise, because Treasure Mirror of Eastern Medicine was thought to be too extensice and broad, or '浩繁'. Since the result was simple and clear in it best sense, it was thought of as the book which ended the habit of being too extensive, or '芟繁'. On the other hand, there was a need to pass on new knowledge and records, due to the fact that there were diseases that have changed in their properties and nature, or that have emerged through the passing of time, and the fact that various experiences on medical treatments have been accumulated and that the medical system have changed. This is in inquiry mainly in aspects of new knowledge that Treasure Mirror of Eastern Medicines have not been able to include in its details.

  • The dream is a well-known experience in the routine life. It is the image and thought being occurred during the sleep, and the complex reaction of our mental world to the event of everyday. In particular, there are so many opinions of the reason why people have a dream and this thesis is telling about the physical and pathological changes in the human as one of that various opinions. The aspects of this thesis are often founded in the diverse texts of oriental Medicine, including the Internal Classics(내경), and there were some cases that regarded the dream as diagnostic object and put to clinical uses. These attempts were not only tried out by particular orient thoght, also the ancient Greeks thought that the dream would represent important informations about the health. But, these ideas have been treated lightly by the impacts of the western medicine since the modern age. Straightforwardly, before the psycho-analytics was not development, most of the doctors and scientists regarded the dream as things like dregs of mind. The central operating bodies of the dream are the Spirit(신) and Hon and Beak(혼백), and the Spirit(신) is more essential part between the two.

  • As the concern about health is increased, the importance of preventive medicine that prevent disease in advance to overcome boundary of disease remedy gets emphasized in the whole world. The fundamental thoughts of oriental medicine are the harmony between the human body and nature, the unified idea regarding mind in the same light with body, and the symmetry of the cosmo dual forces. And oriental medicine is a kind of study that has developed on the ground of prevention thought. from old days, it has been developed the preventive medicine at is called 'Yangseng(養生; recuperation)' etc. with the clinical medicine. The preventive medicine of oriental medicine was taking a serious of the first preventive medicine of an incurable disease thought and the prevention thought that belongs to the second and third preventive medicine is described through the whole oriental medicine. Also the clinical and preventive medicine to apply to the clinics have an in- separable relation. Therefore I inspected the part of the preventive medicine described in some oriental medicine books and studied the characteristics of preventive medicine of oriental medicine as follows; First, the preventive medicine of oriental medicine has the characteristics that is emphasized generally in the first preventive medicine and wholly it is composed in the system of the first, second and third preventive medicine. It has the presentative theory such as 'Jungkijonae sabulkaghan(正氣存內 邪不可干; If good energy is in body, a disease. dosen't occur)', 'Husajukpung Phijeyushi(虛邪賊風 避之有時; When e infectious disease like plague break out, they must avoid the place occurring the disease)', 'Chuninsangeung(天人相應; The harmony of nature and human)' etc.. This is intimately related to the incurable disease thought of the inside diameter and oriental medicine has pursued that. Second, due to the most prerequisite theory of disease production, the balanced condition of environment, the cause of a disease and host is called the health. As oriental medicine has the system of aetiology like that, we can see the host and environments are importance most of all. Namely we can think of the relation of host >> environment > the cause a disease Up to date Jungkijonae Sabulkaghan(正氣存內 邪不可干) that the most oriental medicine doctors have had a knowledge is not whole theory but a pan of oriental medicine science and it is included in oriental medicine theory to avoid infectious disease such as Husajukpung Phijeyushi(虛邪賊風 避之有時). Third, according to the natural result of the first and second contents, we can know that its characteristics stress the remedy without drugs. Because Jungkijonae Sabulkaghan(正氣存內 邪不可干), Husasukpung Phijeyushi(虛邪賊風 避之有時), and Chuninsangeung(天人相應) mean that they prevent disease in condition of freedom from ailment, We can prevent the disease production through the positive preventive methods such as exercise, spirit, food and innate prevention etc.. fourth, the preventive medicine of oriental medicine has developed with therapeutics and it contains all oriental medical methods such as host, environment, exercise, acupuncture and moxibustion, innate or postnatal methods. Also it is the general preventive medicine that has fundamental philosophy of oriental medicine; for examples, the unified idea, the harmony of nature and human, and the unity of mind and body. fifth, to develope the above scientific merit and special features, the preventive medicine of Oriental medicine must be objectified and reemergent stud? gets more and more essential from now on. Especially we need to have the scientific concern of Oriental medicine about the cause of a disease, environmental hygiene, industrial sanitation, and personal hygiene etc..

  • Objectives : With increasing interests in hair cosmetic to keep their scalp and hair healthy we must have much more information about the oriental medical cosmetic goods. Methods : Shampoos which contain herbal ingredients are commonly used to stopping their hair loss, alopecia. On the basis of oriental pharmacology, we analyzed several shampoos which have herbal ingredients and thought about the oriental cosmetic methods for a hair loss. Results : We found that many herb based shampoos are developed on the basis of the principle of oriental medicine. In addition, the interest in oriental medical cosmetic methods that used the principles of the oriental medical science has been increased and cosmetic goods based on the oriental medicine have a positive market. Conclusions : With many possibilities for the oriental medical cosmetic methods, clinical records to prove scientific facts are urgently needed. In addition, the oriental medical cosmetic methods based on oriental medicine to examine scalp and hair should be offered.

A Clinical Study on the Effects of the Dong-Si Acupuncture treatment for the patients with lumbago(by Analysing Digital Infrared Thermographic Imaging) (체침과 동씨침을 시행한 요각통 환자 38례의 임상고찰(적외선체열촬영으로 치료효과 비교))

  • Objective : The purpose of this study is to evaluate clinical effect of oriental treatment for lumbago patients by comparing of Improvement index, Visual analog scale, DITI gap between common acupuncture with Dong-Si acupuncture treatment group and common acupuncture treatment group. Methods : The 38 patients who had a diagnosis of lumbago were observed from June 2002 to February 2003, were divided into two classes ; the A group was 19 cases practised Dong-Si acupuncture with common acupuncture, B group 19 cases only common acupuncture. Then the time of 2 weaks after, I compared Improvement index, Visual analog scale, DITI gap of two groups. Results : In Improvement Index, Group A is $0.4442{\pm}0.1165$ and Group B is $0.3061{\pm}0.1402$. So Group A is thought to be significant(P=0.002). In VAS(visual analogue scale), Group A is $7.4737{\pm}1.1239$ and Group B is $6.3684{\pm}1.0116$. So Group A is thought to be significant(P=0.003). In DITI, temperature differance of Group A is lower than Group B after treatment.

A Study of Diaphoretic Therapy[汗法] in "Yumunsachin(儒門事親)" ("유문사친(儒門事親)"의 '한법(汗法)'에 관한 연구)

  • Jangjahwa(張子和) was influenced by "Hwangjenaegyeong(黃帝內經)" and Yuhagan(劉河間)'s theory, and other classics. Also, his clinical experience was helpful to theorize his thought. Thus, he improved medical theory by combining previous medical theory and his own experience. The essence of his thought is the importance of pathogenic Gi[邪氣] as the cause of disease and is Sambeop(三法) of Hantoha(汗吐下) as the methodology for removing pathogenic Gi[邪氣] away. He regarded pathogenic Gi as the cause of disease, and eliminated pathogenic Gi for the remedy. Namely, Sambeop(三法) of Hantoha(汗吐下) was selected as the best efficient method for driving pathogenic Gi away. Sambeop of Jangjahwa(張子和) have different meaning from previous one. Traditionally, Diaphoretic Therapy[汗法] was regarded as therapy for exogenous disease[外感病], and its effect was regarded as Balhanhaepyo(發汗解表). Emetic therapy[吐法] was throwing up Dameumsuksik(痰飮宿食) of stomach and above diaphragm. Purgation therapy[下法] means Tongbyeon(通便), Hajeok(下積), Sasil(瀉實), Chuksu(逐水) were regarded as therapy for Yangmyeongsiljeung(陽明實證) of Sanghan(傷寒). He submitted a new extensive concept of Sambeop adding traditional one, and expanded the application range of Sambeop. All methods, can cause circulation of Gihyeol(氣血) by opening the 'Hyeonbu(玄府)', like Moxibution therapy[灸薰], Steaming[蒸], Washing[洗],Heat therapy[慰], Cauterization[烙], Acupuncture therapy[鍼刺], Stone needling, Physical and breathing exercise[導引], Massage[按摩] were regarded as Diaphoretic Therapy[汗法]. Especially, he thought that Diaphoretic Therapy and venesection[瀉血] have same medical implication. If we examine the process of pushing out pathogenic Gi[邪氣] by means of Sambeop(三法), we can find the intermediation, that is circulation of Gihyeol(氣血). Its meaning is implied in the word of 'opening Hyeonbu(玄府)'. He thought that the circulation of Gihyeol(氣血) is the key to control health. Gihyeol(氣血) was circulated well under the physiological balance, but it was not circulated well under the invasion of pathogenic Gi[邪氣]. In other words, pathogenic Gi is the immediate cause of bad circulation of Gihyeol(氣血) and disease. Naturally, the doctor must remove pathogenic Gi that cause bad circulation for healing by means of Sambeop(三法). In my opinion, because the ultimate goal of Jangjahwa(張子和) was circulation of Gihyeol(氣血) by removing pathogenic Gi[邪氣], the concept of Sarnbeop(三法) could be expanded.

A Qualitative Research on the Cognition of the Initiation of Diseases of North Korean Refugees in South Korea (북한이탈주민들의 병증발생시기 인식에 대한 질적 연구)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to understand the cognition of the initiation of diseases of North Korean refugees in South Korea. Methods: 9 North Korean refugees hospitalized in Oriental Neuropsychiatry of National Medical Center participated in the interview. The statements were analyzed by using the phenomenological research methodology and Giorgi's analytical method, in particular, was applied. Results: A total of 4 categories and 15 sub categories were derived from the participants' descriptions. North Korean refugees who thought their diseases have begun while living in North Korea coming to South Korea, have fire disease because of the strict social system, limitations imposed on their actions, and the violence of their husbands. And who thought during escaping from North Korea, have anxiety about being killed, found and transferred to North Korea. They also suffered from a sense of guilt towards their family who were left behind as well as from depression. Consequently, they thought their skeletal diseases have begun during this period. Who thought during their period in Korea, their diseases like fire disease and depression have been worsen because of unfamiliar circumstances and doctors who said their problems had been caused by psychiatric disorder. Nevertheless, they did their jobs, felt happy and had a will to be cured thingking possibilities of overcoming diseases. Conclusions: These results suggest that various factors during different periods in the life of North Korean refugees could have an effect on their present diseases.

A Study of Qi Theory in Daesoon Thought : centered on Shangjeguan and Cheonjiogongsalon (대순사상에서의 기론(氣論) 연구 - 상제관과 천지공사론을 중심으로 -)

  • The Qi(氣) concept in the Orient is the important concept which forms the world-view and thinking structure of the Oriental. The idea of Qi unfolds two ways. The first is the cosmogony that is the theory explaining the creation and change of universe through the change of Qi. The second is the preservation theory that think human body is full of Qi and we can be the immortal by raising Qi inside human body. The canon of Daesoonjinrihoe(大巡眞理會), Jeon-gyung(典經) also says about Qi many times especially in the doctrines about the object of belief and Cheonjigongsalon(天地公事論). This paper is willing to systematize the discussion of Qi in Daesoon(大巡) thought through researching Sangjeguan (上帝觀) and Cheonjigongsalon. The object of religious faith in Daesoonjinrihoe is Gucheon(九天)-yeungwon(應元)-noisung(雷聲)-bohwa(普化)-cheonjon(天尊)-gangsung(姜聖)-sangje(上帝) and Won(元) concept in the explanation of this divinity is deeply related to Wonqi(元氣) thought of the Oriental traditional Qi idea. And the theory of Qi(Qilon, 氣論) in Sangjeguan is related to electricity and the idea that the supreme God governs all things by electricity is the very original interpretation only found in Daesoon thought. The Qilon in Cheonjigongsalon is based on the Qilon of traditional thought that sees Qi is the element of all things and all thing are formed by the change of Qi. And the unique feature of the Qilon is saying that the supreme God, Cheungsan(甑山) operates Qi of universe and arouses the change of Qi. That is to say, God Cheungsan saved the world and all living beings by eliminating and giving and changing and moving and gathering and combining Qi. The characteristics of Qilon in Cheonjigongsalon is that the transcendental existence having human body has the control of the change of Qi in the universe. In conclusion, Qilon of Dasesoon thought tells that Gucheon-Sangje Chengsan governs all things by electricity and he fixed the old world and opened the new world like paradise by conducting the change of Qi.
