Chungpesagan-Tang (CST), a Korean traditional prescription composed of oriental medical herbs, has been used successfully to improve human health and regimen. This study was designed to examine the inhibitory effects of CST against in vitro ischemia/reperfusion-induced inflammatory response. We have characterized the production of prostaglandin $E_2$ and arachidonic acid during ischemia/reperfusion in the human neuroblastoma SK-N-MC and human monocytic macrophage U937 cells and the inhibitory effect of CST on these inflammation-related substance formation has been found out in this study. This result suggested that CST used in this experiment reinforced antiinflammatory potentials and protected cells against ischemia/reperfusion-induced inflammatory resopnse.

Two Fructus Jujubae & three Rhizoma Zingiberis Rencns are usually used in parts of prescriptions in oriental medicine. In "Dongeuibogam", those are prescribed as drugs. However, those are not exactly same with original books, which "Dongeuibogam" had quoted. In original books, those are sometimes mentioned just as 'Fructus Jujubae & Rhizoma Zingiberis' or different amount of them. Therefore, authors try to compare with "Dongeuibogam" and its original books to find out the reason of discordance. As a result, we could conclude that Two jujubes & three pieces of ginger are more commonly prescribed than original books and are fixed to use more conveniently and to give standard for doctor.

Dong-Mu's philosophy is based on the postulation of 'Sa Sim Sin Mul'. The attempt toactualize the postulation is seen through the books 'Kyun chigo' and 'Dongeuisusebowon'. That is to say the physiology, pathology and pharmacology of Sasang based on Dong-Mu's philosophy all belong to the category of Sa Sim Sin Mul. But the interpretations of Sasang prescription have been made as 'The recipe for symptoms'. it is different from Dong-Mu's view. Appearing of disease can interpretate the strength and weakness of resistance based on the constitution. So, I tried to analogize properties of drugs showed in his writings on the assumption of resistance of the constitution.

Objective : The Korean famous medicinal prescription of Subi-jeon was investigated for their antidepressant effects by tail suspension test, hot plate test, reserpine-induced hypothermia test. In addition, the monoamine oxidase activity was determined in vivo. Methods : The methanol extract reduced dose-dependently the duration of immobility in the tail suspension test, by 31.4 and 34%(p<0.05) at doses of 500mg/kg and 1g/kg, respectively, compared with control group. In comparison with this, the effect of the water extract was very weak. Results : 1. In the hot plate test, the methanol extract potently increased the jump latency time(p<0.05) compared to the control group, exhibiting the inhibition rate of 197% and 256% at doses of 500mg/kg and 1g/kg(per os), respectively, which is more effective than the water extract. 2. Both extracts suppressed the fall of body temperature induced by reserpine(reserpine-induced hypothermia) in a dose-dependent manner, showing the less effect at lower doses and better effect at higher doses compared to the water extract. 3. Both extracts inhibited the brain monoamine oxidase activity in an in vivo assay compared to the control group, the activity of water extract was better than that of the methanol extract. Conclusion : The prescription of Subi-jeon can be useful for the prevention and treatment of depression.

1. Objectives This Study is to find efficacy of Red Poria and White Poria used for Soyangin Prescriptions in Lee Je-Ma's writings. 2. Methods We analysed Soyangin Prescription with Poria in ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Suse Bowon Chobonkwon(東醫壽世保元 草本卷)${\lrcorner}$ , ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Suse Bowon Gabobon(東醫壽世保元 甲牛本)${\lrcorner}$ , ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Suse Bowon Sinchukbon(東醫壽世保元 辛丑本)${\lrcorner}$ and ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Sasang Sinpyun(東醫四象新編)${\lrcorner}$ based on the efficacy of Poria written in ${\ulcorner}$DongMugo YakSungGa(東武遺藁 藥性歌)${\lrcorner}$ . 3. Results and Conclusions 1) Red Poria and White Poria seems to be different in Sasang Constitutional Medicine. 2) Poria in Soyangin Prescription had used from the traditional medical point at the beginning, in ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Suse Bowon Chobonkwon(東醫壽世保元草本卷)${\lrcorner}$ , but its usage was changing until ${\ulcorner}$Dongyi Suse Bowon Sinchukbon(東醫壽世保元辛丑本)${\lrcorner}$ as the point of Sasang Constitutional Medicine. 3. It is necessary to use Poria in Soyangin Prescription as the essence of Soyangin's life because it effects on the whole body without any distinction from body's upper part with lower part and body's exterior part with interior part.

As a result of studing on the "Joa-gui Em", we could reach conclusions as follows. 1. "Joa-gui Em" shows in vivo effect of that it supplement Kidney-Um essence and nomalize a physiological function of Kidney-Qi. 2. "Joa-gui Em" supplement Kidney-Um essence, it does not use in The Rise of Insubstantial Fire(음허화왕) body condition. 3. "Joa-gui Em" use in many ways women disease, in case of menstruation and meonpause disorder. 4. "Joa-gui Em" and "Joa-gui Hwan" are modification prescription of "Uk-mi-ji-hwang-hwan. 5. "Joa-gui Em" is a pure prescription in supplement Kidney-Um essence, Roast Glycyrrhizae Radix of prescription has effect of supplement Sam-cho Qi. 6. "Joa-gui Hwan" is similarly "Joa-gui Em." Colla Cornus Cervi and a Colla Cornus Glemmys of prescription have effect of supplement DUMAI and RENMAI CHONGMAI.

1. Objective To review the effectiveness affecting to acne patients by Yeoldahanso-tang(熱多寒少湯) and Hyangsayangyi-tang(香砂養胃湯) who were constitutionally typed as Taeeumin and Soeumin 2. Methods The patient's subjective and objective symptoms were observed. After treatment's we compared the photos before and after, and estimated by Korean Acne Grading System(KAGS-2) 3. Results After we treated two cases of acne patient with constitutional prescription, their symptoms and result of KAGS-2 improved 4. Conclusions This case study showed an effectiveness of using Sasang Constitutional prescription in Taeeumin and Soeumin to Acne.

The anti-angiogenic activity of ethanol extract of Bojungbangam-tang, a new herbal prescription composed of nine crude drugs, was evaluated in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs). HPLC profile revealed that five major compunds such as apioliquiritin, narirutin, hesperidin, liquiritin and glycyrrhizin. Ethanol extract of Bojungbangam-tang (EBJT) did not showed any significant cytotoxicity against HUVECs up to 200 ug/ml. EBJT significantly inhibited basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF)-induced HUVECs proliferation to 69% at 200 ${\mu}g/ml$. Migration using window scraping method and tube formation in bFGF stimulated HUVECs were also significantly suppressed by EBJT in a dose-dependent manner. Taken together, these results suggest that Bojungbangam-tang can be a potent prescription for angiogenesis related disease.

1. Purpose This study is intended to catch the expasion of theory of Sasang Constitutional Medicine through comparision DongyiSooseBowon Chopanbon with DongyiSooseBowon Chobonguen and DongyiSooseBowon Gabobon. 2. Method I compared the Soyangin's prescription and medications of DongyiSooseBowon Chopanbon with those of DongyiSooseBowon Chobonguen and Dongyisoosebowon Gabobon. 3. Result and conclusion 1) Soyangin's Medications of the same kind in Chobonguen's prescriptions and Gabobon's and Chopann's are thirty-two; like Bangpoong(防風), Hyeunggye(荊芥), Sangjihwang(生地黃), sukgo(石膏), etc. And these medications are the principle in Soyangin's disease. 2) Soyangin's Prescriptions of the same name in Chobonguen's prescriptions and Gabobon's and Chopanbon's are Yangdokbackhotang(陽毒白虎湯). Chopanbon's Yangdokbackhotang(陽毒白虎湯) is more rational and effective prescription. 3) Soyangin's Prescriptions of the same name in Chobonguen's prescriptions and Gabobon's are eleven; Bangpoongtongseungsan(防風通聖散), chengumdojuksan(千金導赤散), etc. These prescriptions are similar in the structure. 4) Soyangin's Prescriptions of the same name in Gabobon's prescriptions and Chopanbon's are five; Hyungbangpaedoksan(荊防敗毒散), Yangdokbackhotang(陽毒白虎湯). etc. These Prescriptions make a change in the structure from Gabobon's to Chopanbon's. As this we know that Dongmu(東武) selected Sasang Constitutional prescription and medication in detail as he has the more experience of treatment.

Chelidonii Herba (CHE, Baek-gul-chae in Korean), which has its original description in Gu-Hwang-Bon-Cho, a classic book of oriental Herbal book, is widely used in the treatment of stomach cancer, jaundice, gasrtic ulcer, edema and stomach pain, in Korea, Japan and China. The present study was conducted to evaluate the effect of CHE on the nitric oxide (NO) production, iNOS and COX-2 expression in lipopolysaccharide - activated Raw 264.7 cells. After the treatment of CHE, NO production was monitored by measuring the nitrite content in culture medium, cell viability was measured by MIT assay. COX-2 and iNOS were determined by lmmunoblot analysis. The production of nitric oxide was significantly inhibited by pretreatment (1h) with CHE (0.1-0.3 mg／ml) on LPS-activated Raw264.7 cells. The expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and cyclooxygenase 2 (COX-2) protein were up-regulated by LPS, but the increased levels of iNOS and COX-2 were inhibited by pretreatment of CHE (0.1-0.3 mg／ml), respectively. Thus, the present data suggest that CHE may play an important role in adjunctive therapy in Gram-negative bacterial infections.
