  • Objective: This case study describes the use of traditional Korean medicine to relieve chest pain and headaches in a patient with ischemic heart disease. Methods: The patient was treated with a range of traditional Korean medicine, including acupuncture, moxibustion, and herbal medicines (Gamiondam-tang and Cheonmabanhwa-tang-gagambang). The Numerical Rating Scale (NRS) was used to measure the patient's status and improvements in the frequency of symptoms. Results: After the treatment, the NRS score for chest pain and headaches decreased from 6 to 0. In addition, chest discomfort and palpitations almost subsided. Conclusion: This clinical case study suggested that Gamiondam-tang and Cheonmabanhwa-tang-gagambang could be effective in relieving chest discomfort and headaches.

  • Objectives : This study investigated the relationship between presymtoms and stroke subtype in early state of stroke patients. Methods : From Oct. 2005 to May 2007, 623 early state stroke patients were included. Patients were hospitalized within 30 days after the onset of stroke at DongGuk University International Hospital, Kyungwon University In-cheon Oriental Medical Hospital, or Kyung Hee University Oriental Hospital. We investigated general characteristics, stroke subtype, and presymtoms (facial spasm, neck stiffness). Results : Hemorrhagic stroke had more facial spasm than ischemic stroke(odds ratio 2.80). Small vessel occlusion had more neck stiffness than others(odds ratio 1.59). Conclusions : Facial spasm and neck stiffness would be valuable as stroke presymtoms.

  • Objectives : The purpose of this study was to analyze the changes of quality of life after reduction of muscluloskeletal pain treated with Korean traditional medicine. Methods : The authors observed reduction of musculoskeletal pain and recorded pain reduction by VAS. And we surveyed SF-36 twice, admission day and one month later and compared each other. Results : 1. Musculoskeletal pain with Korean traditional medical treatment decresed significantly. 2. As patients' musculoskeletal pain reduced, all parts of quality of life increased. Especially, the improvement of Bodily Pain(BP), Physical Function(PF), Vitality(VT), Mental Health(MH), General Health(GH) were statistically significant. Conclusions : Reduction of muscluloskeletal pain improved patient's physical, mental, emotional and social quality of life. But Social Function(SF) and Role Limitation(RP,RE) were less than others, so we need to develop complementary programs.

Method : We studied about 35 cases who were admitted to Jaseng Hospital of Oriental Medicine with diagnosis of 'Thoraco lumbar compression fracture' with X-ray examination. Result : Out of 35 patients 31 patients discharged with satisfying results. Most of the compression fracture occurred in age of $60{\sim}70$. And the single fractured patients recovered more easily than the multi-level fractured patients. It didn't affect the results whether the patient had another vertebral disease(such as Herniated intervertebral disc or osteoporosis) or not. And most of the patients who had vertebral compression fracture visited the western medicine hospital first. Conclusions : We analyzed the tendency of the patients who had vertebral compression fracture, and concluded that the conservative Korean traditional therapy is an effective means of treatment for the patients who have thoraco-lumbar compression fracture.

Methods : We prospectively estimate safety of hemorrhagic transformation occurred in oriental medical therapy and continuous intravenous urokinase combined therapy. We estimate National Institute of Health Stroke Scale Score and Modified Barthel Index. Results : Hemorrhagic transformation was not noted. and Others are not fatal complication. Conclusions : oriental medical therapy and continuous intravenous urokinase combined therapy are safety method in treatment of acute cerebral infarction. We think this can be a good model of Oriental and western cooperative therapy.
